Its a pretty interesting situation honestly. Iirc they aren't releasing MK games in Japan/Asia due to the violence/gore that the game contains. There was a person who said that US likes violence but not boobies while with Japan/Asia it is the opposite. I know that the majority players don't care about it at all as long as they enjoy the game and I agree with them.

xD true but with MK9 having more competitive traction, it made people pay way more attention to it. Look how it blew up. I'm sure there's players that feel indifferent about the importance of the gore. Ed Boon even said at this point, the gore is just a fraction of what makes MK, MK. Casuals don't think that though.

That can be applied to almost every single fighting game though. Tekken 1, DOA1, Street Fighter 1, they didn't have the best gameplay. NRS did almost go bankrupt 10 years ago when they were known as Midway but then WB decided to step in. Then the previously mentioned interest in MK grew again once they went back to 2D instead of making more 3D MK games.
