Originally, it was marketed as the unapologetically "BADASS! HARDCORE!!! EXPLOSIONS!! SEX!!" alternative to Tekken and VF. It used to be the fighting game where there were seemingly no limits and anything could happen.
Nowadays that image has been neutered and it's now basically wank fuel with overzealous attempts of "coolness" in order for the fighting games to not get fully labeled as ecchi or softcore porn. I don't think it worked though...
@Anura ngl, that video kind of got me hyped up for DOA. Seems like current DOA just needs to turn it up a notch (or multiple notches) so it can return to it's original goals. I want all that in the new DOA.
@Kasumi-Phase-X LMAO. Those gallery pictures. Why are we complaining about fanservice in DOA5 and 6 again?? lol. But seeing these for the first time is rather amusing. DOA looks so wild that I wished it stayed that way.
@SaihateDYNAMO Sure, for the first DOA that sounds good and exciting but what about the sequels before 5? Your statement doesn't apply to 2,3,4, or their re-releases? I imagine the "BADASS! HARDCORE!!! EXPLOSIONS!! SEX!!" did not stay that exciting or unique for long and they became "wank fuel" too.
"Nowadays that image has been neutered and it's now basically wank fuel with overzealous attempts of "coolness" in order for the fighting games to not get fully labeled as ecchi or softcore porn. DOA6's theme is basically the same as Tekken or VF's. Modern street fighting. In DOA's case, yes, it was formerly Sex, Violence and Rock & Roll under Itagaki, but now it's basically, sex, wacky violence, and wackier moe-ness. It's not a terrible theme, DOA6 just executes it terribly. I felt that DOA worked best with DOA3's tone.
