  • If they really don't have anything planned for Ninja Gaiden or DOA (might not have been able to say that they're working on it but who knows) then this is the first time in a long time where TN/Gust/KT won't have anything announced/coming after Rise of the Ronin that would interest me at the least, I know that some might be looking for that Fate game they're making, which is slightly surprising tbh.

I think that they don't want to say something before right time. It's not like that they are planning to do a pause in game developing, since Yasuda said in interview last year that Team Ninja wants to release new game every year
While the whole SpyXFamily collab is disappointing, I don't think that the the costume mod that happened soon after or the nude mod fiasco that happened a while ago is the main reason or even a reason why they want to get rid of mods. Iirc most of these Japanese companies are very much against mods in their videogames, hence the anti-mod drm.

Still, the fact that they went through with it despite potentially knowing that the company they tasked to make the drm is shady and they applied it to many of their older games is a very "interesting" decision.

And I here I thought that Tecmo Koei's DOA5LR "policing" against mods was bad enough. Now this! XD

Capcom's globalization standards was just the tip of the iceberg! My guess is other fighting game devs will follow this trend sooner or later to keep their IP relevant.
Bea is the fourth dlc character of the first season pass who'll be coming to Rising in May. Been waiting for this moment since the end of the second season pass of the vanilla game, whats 4-5 more months?

Out of curiosity, does GBVSR have a physical version? Can't seem to find it.

Iirc the game's digital only and I don't think that they announced in any shape or form that they'll be making a physical version, they can later on but I doubt that they'll do that if a year or two passes this way.
The whole costume 3 for SF6 situation reminds me on how fighting games are full priced games with not so cheap dlc or plenty of season passes. With the amount of time and money it takes to make sequels now it might be better for these companies to make their game f2p and then they can add all sorts of dlc's and season/battle passes that they want (as long as they're not overpriced).

Big Companies will make the step if the market is right, with tons of free-to-play games on Mobile, PC, & Consoles that have microtransactions along with certain titles being very popular. Some Big Companies usually don't care about what kind of backlash their business models would cause which they would go ahead anyway (like EA or Activision for example).

For DOA, that Gacha Game (aka DOAXVV) is a proper follow up from DOAX3, but a proper evolution of the DOA series (because of costumes & features), and mainly DMM Games Number 1 Game on their charts. If you weren't fan of full price games with Season Passes, you would really hate Paid Gacha which would require to have $840 (Singapore) to have a 100% chance to get certain outfits.

Personally if I want to see a new DOA fighting game, I would want DOA fighting game to be given the same treatment as DOAX side in terms of risque content (costumes/features) & releases (like only available in Japan/Asia) with Paid Gacha being a given (considering Paid V-Stones didn't destroy DOAXVV lifespan unlike Hair Color ended DOA6 lifespan). I don't trust KT to do another DOA fighter of any kind.
Can we even be surprised about Tekken having a really bad/uninteresting story when they revealed Panda of all characters with some build-up via social media and also with a statue at TGS, it would've been far more fitting to do this for a fan favourite character or for the leaked daughter of Heihachi.

Tekken stopped trying with its story after Tekken 4.

Think Harada mentioned that that also had negative reception (among other things) due to how dark the tone of the game was, which tbh, is enforced by the fact that Tekken 5 was different in that aspect, had a little bit of 4 and a little bit of 6 in tone but from 6 onwards a decent amount of characters either got joke endings or they didn't get any significant story development since 4/5.

Like, Xiao's been searching for Jin since 4, Steve for Nina since 5 iirc, Asuka's potential literally wasted on a Lili rivalry, even though I'm not disliking it as much as others do. Tekken 8 seems to be doing some things right in terms of story but I don't think that it'll touch the level Tekken 4 was at back in the day.
Can't believe that both of my secondaries have returned after years of them not being playable in the newest titles. Jun and Li Mei both seem to be very fun in the games they are in, can't wait to get the games and play them.
Those who purchased MK11 on PC as soon (or almost as soon) as it got released, how good was that version on launch (or a couple of months after launch) because the only thing that might hold me back from pre-purchasing MK1 on PC is that I remember the PC version of 10 being horrendous on launch and it stayed that way for quite some time.

Since NRS now outsources it;s PC ports to other more competent studios I wouldn't worry about the quality of the MK1 PC port, I would worry about the amount of players on PC since the PC playerbase for NRS games is considerably smaller than the console playerbase

Thanks for the answer, I might buy a PS5 this Xmas given that the prices here finally normalized for them and I can actually buy them in stores now, so I'll just probably buy MK1 on it along with games that are very demanding for PC like how Tekken 8's gonna be.
Apparently there won't be any benefits for doing traditional inputs for special commands in Granblue Rising anymore. I personally don't mind this change, especially since this is more likely made for the super casuals and for people who want to play this game because of them loving the gacha game but they don't want to get into fighting games.

At the same time, however, the vanilla version had the perfect solution, 1 button input that had no disadvantages in casual modes of the game (which the type of people that I just mentioned would be playing more compared to online) while the traditional input would come with all the benefits (for people who would like to grind the game or get into fighting games with Versus). Why fix it if it ain't broke?

as someone who actually prefers to play GBF with 1 button specials, this is fine by me
Heat in T8 seems to be an interesting mechanic where every characters gets something unique from it or it complements their kit one way or another which is pretty neat. Game seems pretty bonkers compared to every Tekken before it but also looks quite fun. Let's see how good the end product will end up being in like a year or so.
Bleach is getting a new game (another gacha one it seems) that is looking like a better version of Soul Resurrection. Brave Souls is a pretty fun gacha game where there are a lot of original versions of the anime/(yet) manga characters but the game becomes a grind fest once you have the necessary characters to clear like 85% of the content in the game, this new game that comes out next year seems to have potential.

The 2000s saw an assload of Bleach video game adaptations.
    Weren't most of them Japan-only?

Eh, Blade Battlers 2nd had some depth to it and with items it is a chaotic, casually very fun game for an arena game but yeah, that was pretty much the only one, there was a mediocre hack and slash, an acceptable turn-based rpg and the prequel to Battlers 2nd showed its age. The Heat the Soul games also seemed pretty decent for psp games.

Tbh, a Musou style or DMC-esque Bleach game would be the best type of game that they could create for it imo.
It seems that Casey Edwards also contributed to the MK1 soundtrack, which is pretty good, Cage Mansion, whether it was done by him or not, is on par with Quan Chi's Fortress from DA and Deception and Slaughterhouse from Deception. We might get a soundtrack for an MK game that'll be pretty decent this time around.
I've heard Max with the YoVideogames crew talking about how there's not too much of a chance for Soulcalibur to get a sequel anytime soon due to sales not being that good or not being as good as T7's and how Okubo put his job on the line to make SCVI a thing in the first place which makes me wonder, was Tekken Revolution and SC: Lost Swords Bamco's way of gauging interest towards their fighting games back in the day?

I'd have to hear him talking in context because that information is largely incorrect. SC6 outsold expectations wildly. They weren't even aiming for a million units and they moved two and a half.

I dunno why you would take anything Max says as an absolute fact, he gets stuff wrong like all the time.

It was from one of their streams but I can't find the specific part where they're talking about it for a minute or two. Tbh, I don't believe it either because: 1. For a fighting game it did sell very well (even if iirc it sold less than SCII and IV) and 2. It got a decent amount of post launch support. I definitely think that we'll get SCVII, probably not in the near future but maybe in like 3-4 years.
One thing that I like about the Tekken 8 trailers is that the characters feel more unique both in pre-battle cutscenes, the attacks they are able to perform and the rage arts. Asuka might be the best example to that since she seems to have a more personal spin of the fighting style that she's been using up until now that goes very well with her personality, which Tekken 7 wasn't able to achieve/emulate too well imo.

I personally think them adding more personality with the new fresh voice clips helps alot too, I felt alot of the added spins to the styles in T7 felt artificial since the reused stuff and presentation lacked impact. Now it's definitely seeming more like a new title rather than a plain Jane expansion

    UpSideDownGRUNT
Asuka is also especially more vocal and expressive, which I could see soem finding annoying but it's cool hearing a more vocal Asuka imo

@KasumiLover It would've been ok if they had more intros and win poses, Tekken 7 had fewer than some of the previous titles for most of their characters and the very short character specific story modes didn't really highlight the full personality of the characters imo. So far Tekken 8 seems to be a bit more promising as a video game than 7 was.
Crazy to think about how Strive, the game that was praised for its online, has unplayable servers right now. People have been saying that it has been the work of hackers messing with the R-Code and that its not only Strive where this has been happening as well (mainly Strive though). Would like to buy the game soon but I'd like to wait until everything's back to normal with it.

Since the Crossplay/Xbox patch, GG Strive's online has been trash. Still give the game a go though. I could play some matches with you since the in-game netcode isn't an embarrassment on the otherhand.
