Dead or Alive 5 Alpha Demo System and Character Discussions

Not like there's much of anything else to discuss right now. Unless someone wants to start a thread for Klingon women, warp drives, and The Force.

Do you think Team Ninja Has the balls to bring this game to events for testing 'in the wild"?

The game needs to be at EVO, in some way, shape, or form. If TN seriously wants to draw tournament players, there is no better tournament spotlight than a showcase at EVO. It doesn't necessarily have to be on-stream, just at least setup at a booth for people to play. Word of mouth will spread...

And it would be funny if NOD Subway has to pay $10 to play Tengu! lol I know. But I could not pass on the joke!

Are you talking about Worf from The Next Generation or Worf from Deep Space Nine?

Dead or Alive 5 Alpha Demo System and Character Discussions

DOAD is a handheld installment of the DOA fighting game series. It is a fighting game. Fighting games, in most cases, are played competitively. Just because there aren't a plethora of tournaments happening for the game doesn't mean it is somehow not a game made for competitive play. We...

Dead or Alive 5 Alpha Demo System and Character Discussions

Playing a competitive fighting game is not about being able to do all the moves/combos/flashy shenanigans/etc. you want all the time, it's about doing what it takes to defeat an opponent. If you are bored with the game anytime an opponent responds in a matter where throws become a better option...

Dead or Alive 5 Alpha Demo System and Character Discussions

I would think there'd be enough white space in any frame data table to accommodate splitting it into extra (blank) boxes for updates. Or ... just leave the white space there, in key positions, for players to write-in updates next to the original data. For example...

DOA5: Mr. Wah goes over the Dead or Alive 5 Demo

I think I'll also add the suggestion that jumping launchers (basically "hopkicks") should be hold-resistant ... to the effect that they don't go through a hold, but if held, would trigger a parry/evade animation from the opponent, returning both players to neutral with a minor change in...

DOA5: Mr. Wah goes over the Dead or Alive 5 Demo

One thing that would have to be a property of any such anti-hold attack is that is must be linear, so that it can be sidestepped and punished if randomly thrown out. Personally, I'd think, for one example, any attack that guard-breaks should also have anti-hold properties. Make the opponent...

DOA5: Mr. Wah goes over the Dead or Alive 5 Demo

I just reread your earlier post. I guess I initially thought you were making a point against having more options in various situations, but really, you were just saying (as you reiterated here) competitive players want a "best choice" to be defined and clear over others (regardless of number of...

DOA5: Mr. Wah goes over the Dead or Alive 5 Demo

I'm pretty sure changes made in VF5FS (throw breaks, included) were made due to people complaining about the "difficult" learning curve of the game. Sad as it is, many games are being adapted these days to try to accommodate a lower standard of player.

DOA5: Mr. Wah goes over the Dead or Alive 5 Demo

I'd say what the goal should be is to have various tools be uniquely strong or weak from character to character. How different characters in VF can respond to the same situation in uniquely different ways (based on their strengths) should serve as a solid example of this. This doesn't mean a...

Street Fighter x Tekken = Ass?

Well, considering the infamous moment when a reviewer (Jeff Gerstmann) was honest about a game (Kane & Lynch) and got FIRED for it ... you can see why many reviews have come to be unreliable.

DOA5: New Gameplay Demo Trailer of Ayane and Hayabusa

In other news, I notice a "side-step" @ 1:15 of this vid (by 'Busa vs Ayane's knee).... Are we done noting those yet? She SEed, and got launched! Maybe back-turned stuns will grant frame advantage, at least. Makes them easier to react to. I approve!

DOA5: New Gameplay Demo Trailer of Ayane and Hitomi

Another suggestion just occurred to me ... What if DOA5 incorporated some form of "Stun Meter" or "D.Hold Meter" (or both) where: Stun Meter -- meter that builds with each hit during a match, decreases slowly, and triggers CRITICAL STUN when full (when not full, attacks landed without...

DOA5: New Gameplay Demo Trailer of Ayane and Hitomi

Quite the contrary. DrDogg is a guy who, if he is to invest time/effort into playing a game, wants said game to facilitate him playing competitively. For that, the game will either need to be tournament-active (meaning it is a game actively played by the FGC) or have solid online play (so he...
