I don't think exploding clothes will do much good for the games reputation. It's also pretty cheesy and unrealistic, clothes rarely ever get ripped in an actual fight. But I suppose it's fine for the SK outfits... that is their whole shtick after all.
Yeah I understand that doa has never been too concerned with realism. We have teleporting ninja's, cyborgs Tengu, people being thrown off skyscrapers and crushed by a giant Buddha but I see a difference between that kind of suspension of belief and someone's pants exploding off of their body as the result of a punch. In the end people who play fighting games... more specifically people who play video games, aren't doing so for the sake of realism. There isn't much realism in DOA, so as a feature it's not taking away from a perceived aspect of realism.
Quite true, you brought up a the keywords I thought about using earlier 'suspension of disbelief'. The challenge is that this varies drastically for everyone. Some people want 'High level fantasy' while others want 'Seemingly plausible with some fiction mixed in'. Accomplishing both views simultaneously is nigh impossible since the suspension of disbelief is likely to be unrelated for the end consumer.Yeah I understand that doa has never been too concerned with realism. Maybe if it was just knees and elbows getting a bit scuffed from being knocked down multiple times, then I could get on board... but knowing TN it will look a little something like..
I would ld prefer it to be saved til do6
You'd have a point... IF this wasn't a game that predominantly uses "Sexy", "Naughty" and other terms as part of their marketing, includes costumes like ribbons, bikinis, toilet paper and FUCKING TOWELS, and features a newly revamped boob system. Besides, the creator of the game thinks it's softcore porn with a fighting game on the side as opposed to being the main feature. You do realize that costume destruction doesn't necessarily mean sexualization right? Dragon Ball Z did it, Mortal Kombat 9 did it, Soul Calibur did it, and other games have done it.
