It's probably due to the fact that they had to downgrade and not use the resolutions from the Pre-Alpha (which had A LOT of good detail). I just hope they go with the Pre-Alpha resolution, or higher, for Last Round.

Its still sad how doa used to be the most beautiful of the 3d fighters, and now its the ugliest.

Oh come on, it's not the ugliest.
That's my grade.

So yeah, there are still things to improve in DOA5LR, but it's okay!

Id switch hair and characters. Did okay with hair (milas is layered!) But except faces, models can be eh.

But either games like tekken, soul caliber, ufc, blow DOA5 out of the water, visually.

Not just the dulling of the colors and changing stages from dynamic to boxes...but doa5, outside of the characters faces, is also a lot lower resolution (aka, pixely) than doa4 was.

The stages are boring to look at, the textures are muddly, the palette is dull...hell, compare the returning stages to their original doa3 versions. The doa5 version looks worse than doa3. Which is sad
I agree on some of the DOA5 stages, but not all- it just has a darker approach. Much more realistic than feeling like you're fighting in happy land. Plus the DOA5 stages have a bit more going on in the background than any other DOA which is probably why polygons could be less on some doa5 stages. I definitely agree that they shouldn't have made box like stages. For me nothing beats the Roof Top City stage in DOA5, it's their most creative stage ever.

Tekken and Soul Calibur are the others fighting games I play, and I agree, they are better looking than DOA. Even VF, who had a similar graphic style looks better.

I agree that DOA5 is ugly. DOA2-4 all still look beautful even though they're all using outdated technology. The AA they're adding to PS4 version of LR won't fix the boring (er... "gritty") art direction, and it's the biggest shame they keep focusing on DOA5 when they could be working on DOA6

DOA5 isn't the ugliest of recent 3D fighters...that's really not true. I agree, that Soul Calibur V looks better though. The image is smooth, the lighting is great and the stages -or better small arenas- are beautifully rendered. If you take a closer look at the characters though, they are made of much less polygons than in DOA5 and the skin textures are actually pretty pixelated. If you zoom in close on DOA5 characters, they still look good. Also facial expressions couldn't be much better. Even during a fight, were you wouldn't normally even notice it.
There's no way Tekken 6 and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 look better than DOA5. XD The antialiasing is just as bad, the stages are cramped and still very low polygon, characters are of even lower polygons than Soul Calibur V and don't even try too zoom in on them. Really bad textures everywhere. Also the girls look like gorillas. ;)
Virtua Fighter Final Showdown...gimme a break...that game looks really old and outdated now. Low polygon, low textures, In certain lighting the characters look really weird, animations are stiff and everything is so sterile. Girls don't look pretty in this game as well.
Some nicer ground textures and some antialiasing and DOA5/DOAU/DOA5LR would look amazing. :)

Yeah, I just played VF5FS again last night. The characters look like frickin' aliens, man.

DOA5 isn't perfect, but you guys are harping about the game's supposed "ugliness" way too much. Fix the antialiasing, buff the textures, add some more stages and then call it a day, I say.

And add some colors and more details to stages and higher res costumes and higher poly male models and better hair physics and more stage transitions and transition throws and bring back sleek menus, etc etc etc.

Its...still a really ugly game.

Pffffffftttt

Martians talking about how bad DOA's graphics are in comparison to SCV, of all preposterous things.

Anyway, we've already got a taste of what the sparkly new graphics are gonna look like. If you're not satisfied with them in 1080p at 60fps, sucks for you.

Honestly, DOA may be a bit rough around the edges, but I've never thought it looked ugly???

I didn't even know people thought it looked ugly. I mean, I know some people complained about the more realistic looks at first and about Dopey Hitomi, but that's about it?

There are probably better done stages in previous DOA titles and in other fighting games, but I think the characters in DOA5 are great, especially the faces!

it also wins worst stages in a 3d fighting game, tekken's stages run loops around doa stages and so do most soul calibur stages
