MCV released an article this week interviewing Yosuke Hayashi and Yohei Shimbori on their thoughts and reasons in regard to Dead or Alive 5 Last Round, including the team's first attempt at releasing a PC version.

Some notable quotables include Hayashi mentioning the fanbase has never been stronger and Last Round was purely created due to fan demand. In addition, Shimbori talks about the expectation of the PC modding community:

Asked why the series has waited almost two decades to make the move, Shimbori highlights the growing acceptance of PC as a mainstream platform.

“The adoption rate of high-spec PCs and related peripheral devices has traditionally been lower than consoles,” he comments. “But these days, the perspective of PC gaming has changed drastically and we expect more fighting games will be released for PC users.”

Despite this, he warns that one of the PC’s most active scenes – the modding community – should be careful not to turn off publishers looking to make their debut.

“We have to deal with mod issues from an IP holder perspective,” he explains.

“We would like to ask PC users to play our game in good moral and manner. Otherwise, we won’t be able to release a title for PC again.”

Now me personally, I think most of his fear is the game getting over-populated with nude and sex modifications. I don't think he's as worried about general modifications or tasteful mods, but he does have a reason to be concerned. He is also probably worried about people getting around their costume DLC which helps fund not only the development studio but also finds its way to our competitive scene and support. I think we as a community should attempt to take the high ground and not promote "nude hacks" or methods to get around the DLC content. At least in the regard of Free Step Dodge, we won't tolerate threads sharing such information or content.

No need to worry. It's all going to be on the client side.

I mean, you could do FAAR worse in SC5.

Now, I'm just going to sit back and wait for Bass' Potemkin and Zangief mods.

edit: and let's not forget SF4 PC Poison mods.

Although a lot of people are making a big deal about "nude hacks", I think once those are actually out, people will think "Ok, now what?" and will create some really cool stuff and that cool stuff will constitute 99% of the mods just like any other game.

If modders create new costumes that require existing DLC, then it may actually get MORE people to download the DLC.

That's all assuming someone figures out how to make mesh mods... how busted open was the 360 version? I've only seen body swaps and nude mods, nothing major like you see in SF4

But lol at Hayashi asking politely.

I wholeheartedly agree!

with the dental floss and shell shell-stringed swimsuits in existence, you can partly blame TN for the potential nude mods. the character models might as well be nude in the first place.

While I agree that nude mods could be problematic for the community, they can also be very useful as an empty base on which to model outfits.

Nude mods are gonna be made day 1; there's nothing you can do to stop that.
Only thing is... what's gonna happen after the nude mods?

You can already find the answers on web... "videos" making use of them XD

Anyway yes, I agree that such mods will be already available soon after the launch, but just for this reason hopefully later the people that will continue to work on the game could be able create something effectively creative. It's truly unlikely but I really hope that the "project" involving the Steam Workshop will be able to led somewhere.

I don't have any sympathy for Hiyashi if those nude mods are made. The moment he allowed the distribution of bikini/fetish DLCs and Marie Rose/Honoka should've turned off publishers in the first place. Some ugly double standards he's holding there.

I believe that Team NINJA allow the distribution of fetish DLC how much directors allow to the major studios to make drastic cuts to the movies for keeping the lenght insider a certain range and increase the number of projections. There is a collaboration between the two (one is the creative mind the other is what give the funds for allowing the work - and want get revenues back) and it's only the existence of it that can allow the final outcome. Sadly the bad consequence of this is that often the behavior of the latter undermine the creative process of the first one.

Also notice how much polite was Team NINJA about the mods matter: it's like if they were saying that is right for players to create proper mods and not nude ones, but actually any kind of mod should be banned because illecit. I find in these words a subtle messages that they are aware of a need of some proper outfits from a part of the community and that they aren't able to release them (and so that they can expect that a part the players could try to accomplish it, and this without condemning them for it).
