We'll be seeing someone from MK4 in this game, as well as cameos (from MK9).

I know Li Mei had a cameo appearance in MK9 (chained in Kahn's Arena in Kitana's place), so there is a high chance that she'll be in (or a new successor). Also, since Tanya first debuted in MK4, there is also a high chance that she'll be playable (also due to popular demand by fans).

Word from Ed Boon is that he would be surprised if there were anymore ninjas other than Scorpion & Sub-Zero. Kinda sad, but it looks like he wants to branch out to more types of characters. If this "is" in fact the case, then my decision on a main has already been narrowed down to Scorpion & Sub-Zero. Probably Sub-Zero (more than likely) since I like him a bit more than Scorpion. UNLESS someone new catches my eye (but Scorpion & Sub-Zero will always be priority # 1).

That would be kind of sad if that is the case. The only ninjas I like are Scorpion and Reptile so I won't lie would be dissappointing if Reptile does not make it in. I do have hope for him making it. I think we might see other ninjas aside from Scorpion and Sub Zero hopefully.

Especially since reptile, as well as almost all the bad guys like Mileena and Sheeva if I recall, lived through mk9.

Yeah but I understand wanting new characters but not wiping out most of the classic characters. Though I think Ed Boon just saying that to get people to talk about it, but im sure some of the other ninjas will be in. Hoping for Reptile to make it. I am glad that NRS bringing in new characters in the game. The roster size is 24 from the looks of it but that can change.
Also from a technical side view I am really glad that the combo breakers are much different now than how they were in MK9.

A large amount of the classic cast was wiped out in the story of MK9. Johnny Cage, Sonya, and Raiden were all that lived on the good side. The massacre Sindel started killed nearly everyone and Nightwolf sacrificed himself to kill her. From a story standpoint, most of the good characters can't come back. DLC characters were the only ones that didn't factor into the story last time out and they stick to their guns on that stuff. Look for classic characters being sold as DLC and the story being used as justification. They'll make a stupid amount of money for it, too.
Except that Sub Zero should be a robot, but he's clearly a dude again in the story.
If they want a character back, they'll bring them back, story-be-damned.
Sub-Zero was killed in human and Cyber-form. It's entirely possibly this isn't the same Sub-Zero. It's also possible he's similar to Scorpion and is also dead. They could use Quan Chi resurrecting characters as a cheap story cop-out to bring people back as well but their allegiances may have changed.
