New Doa 5 Characters

Personally, I'd like to see a Parkour specialist in the game, and think it could work with DOA better than any other 3D fighter! Plus, such a style can allow for new mechanics to be added to the game to accommodate for the character's ability to avoid environmental damage, and perform certain aerial moves off of various objects.
Martial arts cover the fight response.

Parkour covers the flight response.

This parkour characters would be extremely low tier, as all they'd be doing is running away.

Unless of course you add tricking and/or XMA (extreme martial arts) as the main character's repertoire. Only then would parkour be of good use.

For example:

And let's not forget this, either.

Lisa already covers that. Yes, her style isn't technically Capoeira, but it was 90% inspired by it.

Good idea.

Aikido would be interesting in this game and would probably end up as another grappler character.

If you want ideas on what a parkour character would do look at Hitomi's Wall P+K

I'm not so sure about Aikido or Hapkido since those are covered by VF Aoi and Tekken Jun/Asuka. I'm guessing their new characters won't be having anything Aikido-like.

I support any idea that makes a Parkour specialist viable in the game.

Game Over's idea of a Parkour-style character is intriguing.

Thats not even a fighting style.

Might as well throw in a professional base jumpeeeeeeeeeeeer, Zack is one of those. . .right.

What is a parkour character going to do? Hes going to run away, hes going to be really evasive, hes going to jump off of stuff. . .hes going to turtle.

And besides, all the characters can run and jump over barriers - they all parkour.

Would love to see how a character who could control a sort of sem-independent "sub-character" would work in this engine. I mean, SCV's already experimenting with bringing the concept into 3D with Z.W.E.I. and Viola. The only problem would be how to make such a character fit. Would probably have to be some sort of ninja again. Or someone with an animal that helped, like a dog.

a 2 character person would be crazy. Like carl from blazblue. If you could control them in a 3d free step. You could restrict the other player to only move back n forth. It would be crazy hard to control as well but Id like to see something like that. Or make alpha playable and not so god like. Then add something that lets her clone her self for a given period of time.

Before you are so quick to trash the idea, take BlackDragon's addition into consideration, with the idea of Parkour being effectively mixed with another style in order to provide a character with a viable fighting repertoire. The Parkour elements would be there to really serve as an interesting change of pace for the character (and the matchups), as he/she would be able to avoid environmental stuns/damage that other characters can't, and would have (more or less) an aerial stance implemented anytime parts of the environment is interacted with.

And keep in mind, the aerial maneuvers of the character would be vulnerable to characters with fast HIGH, and some mid, launchers (or even HIGH, and some mid, adv. counters/parries) ... as jabs, or other light attacks, would likely be outprioritized by whatever aerial attack the character does. Some aerial attacks may even lead into strings upon reaching the ground.

But most of her style is inspired by it, as I've said previously.

Most of her style is actually Lucha libre inspired. Only really :4: :K: and :1: :K: are taken from capoeira.

And as for the topic of parkour not being a viable fighting style - I believe that in a series were a timid chinese girl can beat a 231 lb sambo fighter/ trained assassin using Tai Chi Chuan demands at least some suspension of disbelief. And also, to pigeonhole such a character into nothing more than a runaway type seems to imply a lack of imagination, a trait I hope isn't shared with Team Ninja.

All of Lisa's kicks, with the exception of her drop kick, are capoeira.

You know that some professional wrestlers draw their style from actual martial arts?

Steve Blackman = Karate

Samoa Joe = MMA

Kurt Angle = Greco Roman Wrestling

and on and on.

So, yeah, Lisa's striking move set is heavily influenced by capoeira.

That depends on whether you believe Tai Chi's intended effictiveness is true or not.

It's not lack of imagination, it's fact.

The entire point of martial arts is to fight. Parkour's role is the complete opposite. So unless there's a martial art to assist it, it's useless in a FIGHTING game.

Um... Have you ever seen District 13? While there was lots of running in it and its sequel (hell, they are parkour movies after), but there was a heavy emphasis on the fighting as well. If it can be done well in a parkour movie, it can be done well in a fighting game.

No it is not...her fighting style is based off of lucha libre. Go watch a lucha libre match then go watch capoeira. It's completely different.

I've seen D13, and it further proves my point.

Parkour ALONE in a fighting game is useless. Parkour WITH a martial art/combat style is useful.

There must be some comprehension fail going on here... possibly on my end, so bear with me for a moment.
Didn't the general consensus already agree that a parkour FIGHTER (emphasis on fighter intended) could be a good idea?

We all know the range f doa characters; going from ninja's, to wrestlers, to kung fu fighters, and what ever the heck helena is. so what else could they add to the next doa game? an evil ninja maybe????? another wrestler........ or not.

Helena's style is Pi quan... which is Wushu or, Kung Fu...

I agree with Awesmic. Parkour is becoming popular. It'll be cool to see someone using that style. Utilizing the wall and, other objects better than the other character. It'll be a very unique style.
