I'm new to DOA sites in general. I used to roam DOA Central over the years but never posted. I decided to join here since I decided that DOA5 looks to be the first game in the series I want to play seriously like I do other fighters and am very excited for its release. Needless to say, best way to do that for a fighter outside having a dedicated circle to play with is to interact with the overall community on its dedicated website.

I'm primarily a Tekken player and during the Soul Calibur II days was a big player of that game too. SCIII and SCIV engine wise weren't good to me and SCV has potential but Namco wants the game to die by not giving it much needed patching. A shame they released an incomplete game despite Daishi trying his best to get the series back to prominence.

Anyway unlike so much of the FGC, I'm not a fanboy and enjoy various types of fighters (from name to dimension) since at the end of the day I just want to have fun. Currently, Tekken Tag 2 (moving from T6BR obviously), BlazBlue, Mortal Kombat 9 and DOA5 are the fighters I'm focusing on most (though haven't gotten the time to seriously dive into MK9 or SCV since been busy and BB skills have seriously deteriorated. Only in Tekken do I remain close to top form).

If I dislike a fighter then it's soley for the reasons that I don't enjoy it and nothing else. Looking forward to playing some great matches, learning the game well and having a good time here. Hopefully more of the community can feel the same since I hate the pointless wars. Especially the one between DOA and Tekken which wasn't helped by Itagaki's grudge against the series just because some Tekken members didn't like DOA.

Welcome. You already seem to be settling in quite nicely and it's always great to have people decide to take the franchise seriously. Aside from 4, the series has been pretty solid in the competitive department but a lot of people were just too comfortable going with the stereotypes and shunned it. Sad but we're seeing a pretty dramatic about-face from the FGC at large.

Yeah, I like the vibe here. Everybody as of now is cool, knows what they like and acts real mature here. A rarity for the internet in general. And yes, DOA4 I despised. I'll just leave it at that. I very much liked DOA3 and am disappointed the US never got DOA3.1. DOA2U was cool but I had issues doing commands on the Xbox controller since needless to say, d-pad is flawed. Also, DOA2 despite being fun, has its counter damage be insanely high and easy to pull off in any version where the paces of the match just seem destroyed by it. Guessing is the dominant factor there it seems since you risk more by not doing it than anything else. My analysis anyway, again have yet to play DOA on a really serious level or studied its frame data so could be wrong.

But I noticed that the FGC is responding to this DOA more positively than it has in the past which is good. Helped by Kayane being known in the SC circle and to a less extent SFIV. the VF characters and players from their crossing over and I believe Ryan Hart said he was interested in trying the game out too. All things which make me happy to hear.

I loved 4...
You're obviously welcome to that. There were things I loved about the game. The core gameplay, though, was easily the weakest in franchise history. Lot of things were pretty shoddy in it. But a lot of the trappings were well done and a lot of fun. The endings in particular. Not likely that we'll see CG endings anymore, including in 5. Brad Wong tripping out, all of the ninjas' endings (except Kasumi...), all good shit. Sad to see that stuff go.

The 4 point hold system is what I consider the strongest point of DOA4 and I'm glad it's back in DOA5. Unfortunately the recovery and stun system seemed to make it not matter how many points it had due to how you could use it while being attacked in hit mid string and such. Story wise, like CE said it took a very interesting turn for a lot of characters. I have to wonder what TN was thinking by giving Kasumi that ending seeing what happens in the major story, her place in it and the endings of all the other ninjas.

It wasn't the best in balancing to be sure, but I liked how well things flowed. Most fighters feel very choppy, whereas DOA4 felt silk smooth in almost all regards.

Personally, I prefer in-game cutscenes. Not that Hayate/Ryu/Ayane/Helena's endings were anything but epic, but I would have enjoyed them more if they were in-game. Think RE5 or DMC4-style cutscenes.

DoA5 will be your cup of tea, then. All in-game.

I hated the endings in DOA4 besides Helena. They were a bit too much for my taste and pointless. I'm glad to hear they're using cutscenes and hopefully they'll be more tasteful. Besides the graphics in DOA5 is well enough that they don't need CG anyways.

Welcome new people. =)

You should go, then. Gill is hosting it and he's one of the best community members we have. If you've been to GU you likely already know him.
