You should go, then. Gill is hosting it and he's one of the best community members we have. If you've been to GU you likely already know him.
If I do go I can't enter in DOA5 since it's on 360 and I play pad (though I have a stick but no good on it and it's not dual mod anyway). The 360 pad just isn't good enough for me to play with. Not to mention game will be super new by the time of the tourney at 3 days since release and barely anyone will know how to play it Perhaps it's for the best.

If I go, looks like I'll be entering TTT2, SCV (I'll be practicing and easy enough to get into top form for), maybe MK9 (if I can get decent by that time) and SSBM. Possibly BlazBlue if they decide to have it and I can get decent at it again.

There's time to pick up a converter and people there will likely have them. Otherwise it's not like it's high stakes three days after release. Whether you like the pad or not it's mostly going to be for fun.

To each their own. I personally can't have fun when playing in a way I feel uncomfortable and knowing I can't play at my best due to it. But if they have converters there then nice.

Definitely come out to meet 'n greet and play casuals if nothing else. But I hope you change your mind on jumping in, 3 days after release I have no expectation of winning, but I'm traveling 8 hours to show support for a scene that I really want to see grow. I have a feeling a lot of people are in the exact same boat.

I love when foreigners say they can't speak English well, and then bust out better English than my 16 year old cousin. Happens all the time in Japan. Welcome to your next DOA Forum.

Just wanted to say hey guys and gals. I've been with DOA since it's first release on Playstation, love the series and couldn't be more excited for DOA5! I'm a Kasumi and Lei Fang main, but I love playing as all the ladies haha, I'm really interested in picking up Christie or Kokoro in this iteration though :)

Looking forward to contribute with what I can and playing some great games, and if anyone is into the offline scene, I'm currently living in Phoenix, AZ.

Never posted here so I thought I should at least get something down. Just a warning, I love writing so something short and succinct often gets lengthy with me so I apologize if my post isn't appropriate due to length.

Name's Aegis Ornus, for those wondering, Aegis sounds like Age-iss, soft G. Always played around with DOA since 2 was on the Dreamcast, didn't begin to play seriously until DOA2U. It was my first competitive fighter, made it to the SS ranks with my Ein. Played for a year straight, made a lot of friends. I really don't think I'm that good but I do have a mean ability of reading correctly at critical times and my defensive game frustrated a lot of those that played into my zoning. If things went awry, I'd flip into rushdown and catch 'em off guard. After sending my opponent into a panic, I'd go inbetween the two so they'd become hesitant to try anything rash. Really fun times. Then I moved onto 4 and that's when everything crashed into the ground and I stopped playing. It was nothing but frustration and it's hard to think of a session where I was thoroughly enjoying myself playing 4. It also convinced me that Ein was one of the worst characters in the game since every option he has is incredibly predictable and unsafe which was the largest blow of all. That's when I took a 5 year hiatus.

In the meantime, SF4 came out and I was convinced that I could take my skills from DOA2U and apply them there. Then I actually got to play the game and realized that the only thing that'd cross over is the mind games I'd built up. My wins consisted of many carefully placed singular blows, lol. But I made a lot of progress and I was encouraged to play other fighters so I pretty much played everything I could get my hands on. Nothing stuck though. I couldn't find my Ein in any other game so it all came back to DOA.

The DOA5 announcement came around and I was excited. Unfortunately, from what we can tell Ein won't be there though. So I thought I'd hold out till the game arrived to choose a new main. I'd planned to hold out for the new characters in case they could be better utilized with my defensive/zoning style than the currently existing characters. If not, I was going to move on to Hitomi or Bayman. Then the HIN IPL Tournament was announced and I was stoked that a tournament was finally happening in my immediate area. So I went to back to DOA4 to prepare for the tournament and dedicated myself to Kokoro for the two weeks leading up to the tournament. I played around with her a bit when I first bought 4 so I thought I might take to her a bit quicker over anyone else. I utilized what I'd learned from other fighters to find tools and combos to use for the big day and found she was a blast to use! Unfortunately, being homeless right now, I wasn't afforded any stable net to train on so all of my competition was sadly underwater and diluted (sorry for the painful matches online warriors). So I had to rely on my training mode expertise more than anything if I wanted to succeed at HIN. Then I got to use Kokoro in DOA5 and I was incredibly thrown off my game. It was immediately apparent after actually playing it that my time with DOA4 was not going to prepare me for a game that ultimately felt closer to DOA2U and going from 360 controller to dualshock and stick made it hard to nail down what I was really doing with my character, what still worked and what didn't. I did win my first tournament match though! I went 1W/2L and I also got to be on stream! I got blown up by Punishere pretty badly but I did manage to get a couple rounds out from him.

That being said, I'm stoked about DOA5. I wanna play, learn, compete, and travel. Joining a community like this seemed like a great thing to do to keep in touch with the community and stay on top of my game with everyone else. I'm desperate to find some local players to play against regularly, my only offline experiences with fighting games being short-lived bouts with friends and the one tournament. I hope you guys will take me in here, I really want to fit in and make some new friends. You all seem really great, I hope I can learn from all of you. I'm happy to be here!

Hi

I'm a 33 year old guy who has recently returned to his teenage hobby: fighting games (which I hadn't played since the mid 90s)

My favourite game is VF5FS so far (basically because I suck at everything else, I have a win rate of 55% at VF5FS and a 33% win rate at SC5 and SSF4AE for example). I'm looking forward to DOA5 as I've heard its similar to VF.

Yeah that I'll do. My only issue really is money these days hence why I'm skeptic about paying for a tourney where the chances of me doing well are slim to none for a particular game. I don't expect to win any if I join but at the same time, there's a huge difference between being knowledgeable about a game to an extent while you play it and just diving fresh in to it. I work but still paying off some debts (mostly college) and other bills. This is the first I've spent money on gaming in a huge bulk in like a year's time.

Plus if people hold casuals at other spots inside the city don't mind meeting up there too. I don't have a car so needless to say, the closer to Boston the easier it is for me to get there.

Hello FSD! VirtuaKazama is the name. I played DOA for a while since DOA2 on the Dreamcast but I didn't take it serious, just for casuals only. I don't know anything about the DOA community, but I'll learn as I get by.

Hiya, this is TKO MEDION been playing Doa since it came out in the arcades many years ago with doa 1. I'm looking forward to Doa 5 since its announcement and hope to play against many of you when it comes out.

I was fortunate to play Doa5 at the recent I46 in the UK and made it to the final in the doa5 tourney with my day 1 Kasumi, only lost to the more experienced/knowledgeable Emperor cow himself.

I46 doa5 tourney link: http://www.twitch.tv/unequalledmedia/b/330083117

Thanks to EMPEROR COW for telling me of this site I wouldn't have found it otherwise due to my busy life style.

I've loved all of the previous DOA titles, including 4. I know that a lot of the pro's hate 4 because of it's technical failings, but I guess as a fairly casual fighter, it didn't affect me all that much. I love them all really, for different reasons. DOA 1 is just a classic, end of debate. 2 (Ultimate) had an ass-load of costumes, 3 had the best fighting mechanics (in my opinion at least) and 4 had the flashy graphics and fast pace. I like to revisit the entire series from time to time. I've no doubt that 5 will be the best iteration yet, though.

It's good to meet all of you guys and to be a part of the community here at FSD. Looking forward to getting my ass whooped by all of you good, good people!

The best part of getting beaten up by really good players? You eventually start to realize *why* it's happening and start shrinking the gap! ;)

Welcome to the site.

Thanks :) And yeah, it's true what you say about getting whipped by the really good players. It's definitely a learning experience. It's always a real joy to get a true pro turn up in your lobby.

I remember when DOA4 was first released, there was this one asshole in my lobby that was playing Hayabusa and just kept spamming the teleport moves while trash talking everyone he fought and generally acting like a proper tw@t. Because the rest of us were complete and utter n00bs, he was just completely creaming us round after round. Then one of the pro's turned up (can't even remember his name now) and gave the asshole a genuine masterclass in DOA. The guy ended up rage quitting after failing to score a single hit across the 3 rounds. The pro guy was like our saviour...lol. He was actually really awesome...gave us all a few pointers on how to deal with Hayabusa spammers (because jeezy creezy, there was a hell of a lot of them back then!) and did a bit of DOA Q&A for beginners. Good times.

I already feel like I've learned a lot just from reading the conversations between the top players here on FSD and I'm hoping I can put some of the knowledge to good use when I finally get DOA5. Either way, I'm really looking forward to meeting and playing with you guys!

If you can catch most of us outside of an online training room on 5 nearly any of us will provide some direct feedback. Always nice to help out. You may see us start to organize training sessions that people can come spectate and ask questions a bit down the line too. It's something I've been thinking about.

I think that's an awesome idea. I, for one, would very much like to participate. I have so much respect for the pro fighters and I'd truly welcome any opportunity to get a bit better at the series.

Keep your eyes peeled then. The first week or so will likely be busy with people practicing for tournaments launch week, but shortly thereafter we'll ramp things up for the community.
