Opinion: Top Players! (And those who feel like I do...)

Well the truth about DOA is there a no Secrets at all if just learn the game correctly and if u are willing to, u get good at this game.

I agree with him the support is small and no one is trying to get anything happen. But also you the Community is not even trying to Support the Game, if u want to make a Game Big and u dont only have to play it. U also have to swing your ass outside and go to the fucking offline Events. Cheer for the People and get ur Friends into the Game. And stop fucking talk about the Dlc´s or the cool Boobs of Kasumi. We all know the Girls are hot but it doesnt matter.

I`m from Germany and we also try to get the Game Big but it only works if the People come and help, like they did Street Fighter or a better example look for Mk9 they never dropped the game and Supported it and now its Evo Game for Years.
And if u are on an offline Event and playing DOA they smile and saying only: "DOA pfff". Its like wow i bet u suck.
Then im telling these ok Fuck you wanna play SF and i fucking beat them and the last time i played SF i like a Year Ago.

We can make it happen but we all have to help to make it happen.
I dont say its easy buts its possible but it only works if we all help.

Glortor is from TYM, a really active forum where top players are constantly revealing new tech and training scrubs. Players like Tom Brady, Pig of the Hut, Reo, etc are constantly uploading videos on approaching uphill match ups, revealing situational tech, and defending against seemingly broken shit. Think what you will of MK9, but the only reason it's still showing up at majors is because the community has each others backs, not because people spoon feed each other.

But then again, there are top MK players like PL who remain quiet in the community and tear shit up at consecutive Evo's. To each his own; top players are free to do what they want, but I agree that reaching out and offering advice really allows the scrubs to interact with the pro's, hence a community.

I'd say FSD is pretty damn helpful though considering the size of the DOA community in comparison to some of the other major games out there.

The Conclusion
The reason why DOA suffers is not that the game is bad. The reason why it suffers is the zero support its top players are giving it and they're whining about rock paper scissors instead of getting in there and doing it and supporting us and being TOP like they were supposed to be.
I'm willing to put in effort for the community but I'm scrub level.
I'm a fighter.
Are you?

This is an excellent read, GLoRTor. Another reason why we DOA is not getting enough support is because too many people are complaining about the fanservice. Like really, who cares? We are here to show support for the DOA community.

This is an interesting thread. I've seen and heard of the stuff that Mr. Wah, Emperor Cow, etc. have done to improve the DOA community but you can't help but feel that something just seems off. There does feel like there's an unhealthy divide between people who are being productive and helpful, and people that complain, bicker and whine about everything.

I guess the overall situational case can be divided into 5 focuses (well foci)

1. People who support the game and provide assistance wherever possible
2. People who support the game and figure shit out on their own
3. People whom ask for assistance so that they can improve their game
4. People who demand that "Top players" help them improve their game
5. People who don't truly support the game and just bitch and whine about every little thing in the hopes that someone will listen, and thus making the community seem hostile, uncaring, unapproachable and otherwise unattractive.

I have the utmost respect for the players in the first 3 categories but the issues I think are with the people in category 4 or 5. It was stated earlier that a strong community is rooted and maintained in continuous support (such as TYM or SRK), and I believe that to be true, however, every member needs to do their part in maintaining the foundation of the DOA community so that it can grow, as opposed to wither away. Everytime I see another argument heating up over online vs. offline, etc., I hang my head in disappointment.

I consider myself to be in category 2, however I do dabble in category 3 and would love to flirt with category 1. However, I still consider myself to be "scrub" level and would feel uncomfortable mentoring anyone. What I'd like to know of is a good way to contribute to the community despite limited practical knowledge of DOA5.

Category 1 here. Even if I cannot hit a scene because of where I live, I've been prodding people and getting work done, and more to come. My time is limited for this unfortunately, I get to turn it on and mash maybe six hours a week tops. I love this game, and it deserves at least as much support from its community as MK has.
As for limited knowledge, just be there, contribute, support it, report trolls, help the community improve and if you can hit casuals with your friends, or even majors, go go go.

I love DOA and want nothing more than for its community to grow and mature and fully agree that it deserves more, however the series is essentially fighting years upon years of a negative stigma from people that either see it only as a tits & ass distraction or because it doesn't play completely like Tekken or Virtua Fighter. Seeing any bickering within this community can be so discouraging, because DOA needs as much support that it can get due to the *quote-unquote* "credibility" hurdles that it has to jump over.

DOA5 is a very solid game and a great turnaround from the rubbish DOA4. Not seeing it appear at EVO is very disheartening, especially over some of the other games that made it in (*coughssfxt*coughs*). My hopes is that the game can grow enough for EVO 2014 consideration, however that's still far off.

I try to do offline casuals when I can because online practise doesn't quite cut it (especially Ranked matches) and tend to play horribly when I transition from online to offline. Thanks for the tips and I'll try and see what I can contribute to the character forums.

If Team Ninja know what's good for them, they'll offer it lengthly support and a lifespan akin to its predecessor, or beyond. There is much DLC to be released and made accessible AND desirable at the same time, while the game is far more balanced and fair than any concurrent titles, including SC5 from which it wrestled the previous title.

OK, Money where mouth is....

How about entry level "tutorials" for each character so we know the correct way to start playing a character, before learning the entire gigantic movelist?

In other words, something that helps get a player started by introducing the "core moveset" of the character and that character's best tools- giving new players a place to start before crafting their own style, besides just mashing whatever they discover to be a relatively safe pokestring.

Also a small blurb per character on that characters' major strengths and weaknesses, and the "must learn" moves for the character, and why.

This will be *eyeroll* material for the top players out there but you have no idea how many new players will be helped by this...it will also be great if the articles are up before the release of the DOA5+ on vita, which will surely bring in another bump to the playerbase.

Kudos to Emperor Cow for the general system tutorial series, that was incredible and he deserves to compile it into DVDs and sell.....

I like your thinking, or at least the ideas around it. Something that is done on 8WayRun are Top 10 Moves lists to help out people getting started with characters.

I can give an example of a Top 5 for Ayane.

(1) 3H+K - A mid range horizontal tracking kick with great reach and sets up either BT mix-ups or allows a retreat with 8P immediately afterwards. To top it off, it executes in 19 frames and the move is 0 on block making it completely safe. Ayane's best zoning move and arguably her best move overall.

(2) 4P - Ayane's best crush attack by far. It executes in 15 frames and can be thrown out from front stance or backturned-stance making it always readily available for crushing highs (or even crushing horizontal mids!), and has a couple followups such as 4P2K. The move can launch on CH allowing for a juggle with BT PP6PK or BT PP4PP7K for decent damage. This move is an Ayane staple.

(3) 66KK4 - Ayane's go to pressure string. Whenever you want to go aggressive on your opponent, throw this move out. It executes in 16 frames, has good range, the second hit tracks, and is +1 on block allowing you to continue your offense fairly freely (it was +7 on block in ver. 1.01 which was completely broken). You'll rarely get punished for using this move.

(4) 6P - After 4P, 6P is likely Ayane's next best mid-punch. It executes in 13 frames, can crush highs and has a BT version that launches on CH (which is the same as the second hit of 6PP). However, this move is unsafe on block. 6PK can be used to add a kick to the end increasing safety, though not completely. Other than that, this is a solid move.

(5) 1P - Ayane's best low poke aside from possibly 2P. 1P executes in 15 frames, crushes highs immediately, has a followup in (1)PK (or 1PK) and serves as a nice mix-up to 4P. Use this attack if you want to give the opponent a reason to block low.

(cont'd)

I find that lists like this are great for steering new players on the right path in their training and even allow for some discussion on the character's movelists.

Sir, you UNDERSTAND NOT THE POWER of the DOA player. RESPECT is the most POWERFUL thing in the world beacuse you treat things with INTEGRITY! Their is NO SUCH THING as a man who has ascended beyond the ability to play a game because he won in other games! Because the inherent rules of the other game require different things to udnerstand it!

I have played fighting games since the beginning of time as well! I have won tournaments in other games and I have been playing tekken since the days before online play! I understand the NATURE of ONLINE and OFFLIEN and i have top eighted at EVO in doa4 in 2006.

This does not give me the right to come here and claim that this game does not have the support when it clearly does.

This does not give me the right to make claims such as their is no character experts when all the character experts have spoken in the very first page.

This does not give me the right to invalidate the community based on ideas about it instead of stone cold facts.

If you want to learn the game, I, the greatest HITOMI player that has ever lived, will teach it to you.

But know this, no one is better at DOA than DOA players. Not street fighter players, note tekken players, not anything but doa players. Justin WONG lost at evo to the best EIN player in the world and I turned around and beat the BEST EIN player in the world.

Beating The best EIN was more of an accomplishment than beating Justin Wong.

Why? Because he does not play the game. (Disclaimer: Justin would body me in any game outside of DOA with ease)

This is because I donot have the respect this hilarious foolish idea that because you play otehr games with bigger scenes one can look down upon another game and say they are good at it unless they can prove it.
