I'm at work now can't watch videos.
but seriously, leon's character is fit for Sambo.
I watched the movie RAID redemption and the hero is really fit for Silat.
Leon is ITALIAN. Sambo is RUSSIAN. I don't see why a black guy would be any less fit to have Leons move set. The idea that ethnicity should be a major factor in which martial art a character does is either racist or silly. Leon is fit for Sambo because his personality is DESIGNED to suit aggressive paramilitary styles, such as Sambo. TN could have done the exact same thing with a black character and it would have worked just as effectively. Have you ever seen the matrix? Because there's another absolutely epic example of a black guy doing kung fu.

I see martial arts movies all the time, I'm a martial artist and ufc hardcore fan, but Morpheus looked bad, donnie yen would have been a better choice for that role.

Leon is an ITALIAN trained in RUSSIAN martial arts who fights in the MIDDLE EAST as a nationless MERCENARY. (And I'm still saying he also has a Spanish daughter.)

Aka, he's a smelting pot. Anything nationality related is irrelevant with him, he's multicultural.

Also, the guy from Matrix doesn't count as "black". That's a really white black guy. Like Louis from Left 4 Dead.

Now picture Michael Clarke Duncan or Samuel L Jackson doing Kung Fu, and you'll see the problem.

Leon is built for BRUTALITY. So long as the style is extremely brutal and to the point, it fits.

Pretty sure you misunderstood what he meant when he said

Leon uses a "brutal" Sambo .
Bayman uses a more technical Sambo .
I like Sambo, and understand the differences between these two.And really hope they bring him back .
As for Silat, well as a martial art it's cool, but leon's apearence doesn't fit, they should bring an asian but smaller than jan lee .

He's trying to say Leon's size does not fit with Silat compared to its usual practitioner. He was trying to make and example like he said here.

I watched the movie RAID redemption and the hero is really fit for Silat.

He thinks someone smaller psychically such as Iko Uwais from The Raid a movie where the main character is a practitioner of Silat would fit better with Leon's moves if they did make them Silat. Especially Silat being a martial art that originated from Indonesia and Malaysia with the said actor being Indonesian and a practitioner of Pencak Silat.

I mean I'm not saying it matters or that you have to be that ethnicity but if you want realism it is more realistic that someone of that ethnicity would be doing it then say some big ol' ripped Italian guy. Me personally I don't care about what ethnicity the fighter is as much as how they fight or play. I would still like Leon with his DoA4 moves rather than changing them completely. It seems like making a character with a new Martial Art would be something for DoA6 and adding the character with most of his move set already from 4 the easier and more logical thing to do.

Also I do like Ein and would be glad for his return but if I had to choose 1 I choose Leon.

I don't see why we are still on this particular argument...this is supposed to be a Leon fan thread, saying how much we want him in DOA5 and back for 6. It's turned into us all pissing and moaning because one person doesn't want Leon to use Sambo, but everybody else is ok with him how he is in DOA4.

shouldnt it be more like Pankration i mean one of his costumes even references it as being close to roman/greek style fighting

lets just put it this way i can see Leon using a lot more moves from Jeffrey Mcwilds movelist than i can seeing him using from that movie Raid.

Hmmm, you got me curious. Never though about Pancratium. I'm not familiar with Jeffry's movelist, I'm going to watch it entirely. Hmmmm. :)

Yaknow what? Screw it.

Yaknow how in DOA2 Ultimate Zack had a Shadowman costume?

Get the rights, give Leon a Bane costume, and just let him go around BREAKING people.

Ya, I said Leons style suited him. That doesn't mean a black guy couldn't have the same move set. He's a nationless mercenary. You think there are no black mercenaries? What a joke.

I know all the points made, I just chose to ignore the one about size because it's laughable. It's like saying only heavier fighters can do Judo --- Total nonsense.

Where did I say ANYTHING REMOTELY related to there being no black mercenaries?
You implied black people can't have certain move sets that white people can, then started talking about why Leons move set fits him perfectly, all in a response to a comment I made to someone else about why ethnicity doesn't have any relevance to a characters move set. I don't think my misinterpretation of your comment was unreasonable given the circumstance.

I "implied" nothing.

I flat out stated that certain styles look weird on certain types of people. For example, seeing a huge black guy doing a style normally associated with, and designed for, a small asian man. Its awkward to look at.

Imagine Christie doing Bass' moveset, or Zack doing Akira's. It doesn't look or feel right.

And that still doesn't answer my question.

Where did I say anything remotely related to there being no black mercenaries? I SAID, certain styles look weird on certain types of people, and Leon is an italian practicing russian martial arts while living in the middle east.

You 'flat out stated that certain styles look weird on certain (ethnic) types of people. Kung Fu also wasn't designed for 'small asian men'. lol. Yao Ming isn't a small Asian man but there have been and still are people that size (or close to it, anyway, both Asian and not Asian) who practice kung fu. Christie doing Bass' move set would be almost the same as the character Tina. The only issue with it is that unlike Tina, Christie has been designed with a different personality. I also DID answer your question when I stated at the end of my comment 'I don't think my misinterpretation of your comment was unreasonable given the circumstance.'

This is still happening? Can't we just move on to a different topic...like just how awesome Leon is? If they brought him back, what costumes would people want/should he have?

Obviously the desert camo turban, but I was always a fan of the black vest, red trousers (C2 in DOA3) costume. The shades made it all worthwhile.
