Soul Calibur Thread

Good, hopefully they also fixed the unskippable intros and step g, although I have low hopes for the 2nd one.
No, just no for most of these. There is nothing mechanically wrong with SCV's gameplay systems and it is the most balanced SC game. It's pure bias if someone thinks a previous SC was more balanced, including the best overall one, SCII. Remember to not let nostalgia cloud one's judgment.

SCIV was rubbish IMHO, and the Critical Finish system was awful. Creation & customization in FG's is a bit of a double-edged sword because, while I don't mind the feature, the vast majority of people who utilize it online either produce something that looks like shit, or are just recreating some pre-existing IP (I.e. the billion Cloud, Dante, and Sephiroth clones). However, I have seen some genuinely solid creations, especially some of the one's posted on 8WR.

By the way, the aspect that made SC so "memorable" was its offline offerings (such as those in SCII & SCIII), which were top-notch in the SC's prior to SCIV (I.e. before it added online play). If SCII had weak offline content, no one would praise it as highly as they do. On the other end of the spectrum, SCV does have a very solid online component to it despite being at the expense of an expansive single-player component. Although SCV was rushed, I feel that people come down too hard on it because they expected it to have the offline content of SCIII coupled with its solid online play. If SCII & SCIII had online modes, their single player content wouldn't have been nearly as solid as it was and vice-versa for SCV.

Honestly, I get so sick of the "Nostalgia" argument.
Soulcalibur 3 was my favorite and Soulcalibur 1 was the real source of my nostalgia.
But I feel that people support the wrong game.
Soulcalibur IV was w/e in my opinion, but it required more skill and knowledge than V could ever hope to offer. I can see why you like the game in the beginning of its life, but not now.
Funny enough, I feel that people are fooling themselves into believing this game is good.
But everyone is entitled to their opinion. I'm glad Soulcalibur got a tourney presence, but just wished it was SC4 instead. But those reasons that I stated earlier are why myself and other veterans left this game.
There's always hope SCVI! <3

In relation to past SCs prior to SCIV, nostalgia definitely influences people's opinions of them because that was likely their "prime time" with the franchise. Don't doubt how much nostalgia clouds one's impression of something.

From a balance standpoint, SCIII was complete horseshit. The game was essentially living and dying off of its offline offerings and content. The game is just known for having the most content of any SC, but wasn't exactly a competitive FG. SCII is miles better.

As for SCIV, don't confuse higher execution requirements as meaning the game has more depth. All it means is that you have to spend more time in the lab practising the same moves over and over instead of focusing on developing the metagame. SCIV's gameplay balance was also pretty bad compared to SCV's. I only liked SCIV because its graphics were amazing, and it had the best overall roster. Didn't care for anything else including its laughable online.

Veterans left SC because they couldn't get their heads out of their asses with respect to whining over characters that got cut. Though I do miss Talim, at least I can play her on SCII:HDO when she was actually good!

As for SCVI, if you think SCV was "bad", SCVI won't be much better because Namco doesn't support the franchise like how they support Tekken.

Unfortunately Namco only looks at the $$$ when it comes to support. Tekken has always had the bigger scene, so they throw most of their $$$ there.

Amy was my girl back in 4... and they got my girl Hilde in there too... and despite it being free I probably won't even download that junk lol

What do you guys think the future of SC holds? Part of me wants to believe there will be an SC6 but a bigger part feels like SC will go mobile or turn into a card game.

I believe they don't know what they want to do. I just feel LS is them spoon-feeding us to bring back their core audience...

No, it was a vote going on during a livestream on who would the fans like to see.

Plus I don't see any point in making new artwork when this game is ftp and have been using old artwork sine the beginning.

Lost swords meh, when's scVI?

The next Soul Calibur IP is Unbreakable Soul. There was a trailer (well I think it was an fan made trailer). There's no official info on the Soul Calibur site, but could be SC:VI... or some mobile crap. Seeing as though Project Soul has been hush about it could mean it's the next main SC game.

Haha LS is the biggest pile of shit I've played this entire generation. I hoped that the delay would help them fix some of the issues but nope. Who cares about Taki or Sophie when there's nonstop loading, braindead AI, and you're forced to listen to the English dub. After being disconnected after a 1 minute loading screen (JUST SWITCHING MENUS) I deleted the game.
