I think the strategy guide is for characters thats already unlockable....not secret ones. So we still have hope.

I really doubt that. Every strategy guide ever has included secret characters, and that includes all the other DOA guides. Besides, it doesn't really make sense to have an in-depth guide and not include every character in the game.
This is unfortunately true ..
God, I hope Leon at least gets some future DLC love somehow.

shit, i completely forgot team ninja has to play dumb and pretend the roster wasn't leaked. so yeah it probably is just lame shit like pai,alpha etc as the unlockable secret characters that won't be officially revealed as playable by them till after launch. i was lumping them in with the rest of the cast and assuming they ment more characters not on the leaked roster. dammit should've known it was too good to be true and this game will remain a leon-less piece of trash. eliot looking to be a beast slightly makes up for it : /

I personally prefer having to unlock certain things, mainly costumes and a few extra characters. It adds to the replay value and forces me to try characters I otherwise wouldn't touch. Even if we know Pai and Mila are in, we don't know what they look like or how they'll fight within the game. It will still be exciting the first time you see and use them without the net spoiling it for you. We do have a choice in looking here before playing. Tekken 6, SSFIV and even SFxT gave me everything from the get go and as a result there are characters I never touched. No desire and no incentive. It also sapped the desire to repeatedly play. While it may be obtrusive for tournaments, we have to keep in mind that the tournaments account for a very small percentage. It's all subjective of course, but most consumers aren't what we'd call "hardcore" and will need a reason to keep playing outside of online and local multiplayer.

I don't mind unlockables at all, except for characters. Everything can be locked away except for that.
Well, I never said that I liked her either. I just tried to make a realistic assumption of the final roster based on everything we've seen up to this point. I too, would rather have Leon than Alpha-152.
Agreed. They can still lock costumes, music, system voices, online titles, et cetera, et cetera. They should never lock any characters though.
I'm not sure how I feel about locked stages though. I don't know if they're considered important enough that tournament holders would need to bother unlocking all of them.

I, myself, very much enjoy having to unlock things. It just gives you a nice feel of accomplishment when you find something the game developers hid rather cleverly, not to mention the look on most people's faces who initially doubted that their favorite character(Leon? Ein? Tengu? Alpha-152?(for me <3)) was in, and then suddenly, out of nowhere, you unlock them.
What I don't want to happen, though, is locking characters and stages out from online play. Online play tends to be for those who play competitively, and for some reason the majority of those people are butthurt if anything at all is locked out. Here is my guess on the roster.

Unlockable Characters: Pai, Mila, Gen Fu, Helena, Alpha-152

The strategy guide lists how to get/unlock everything in the game (including all of the various accessories for the characters).
While the 24-character "leak" came from the Japanese strategy guide, I can assure you that both the US and Japanese guides will cover every character in the game, unlockable or not. The only characters that would potentially not be covered would be DLC characters (if there are any... which I doubt), and even then it would depend on how close to release they're available.

I don't get it, the 24-character leak isn't a rumor then, does it specify if Leon is in the game or not ? Or is it a surprise, which I could understand, not to spoil everything for those who don't want to know before September. I totally respect the fact certain things just can't be said before the release.
Anyway, I want Leon playable, but no Alpha. Having Alpha playable but no Leon would be a joke. And that's cool to have unlockable content such as costumes, accessories, voice announcers, photos, stages maybe.. but no character, I was surprised to have Helena unlocked in DOA4.. well it wasn't a big challenge, but it was boring once I lend the game to a friend, I had to start from scratch just to play with my main.
