Summoned Suffering is now a CE?!? My SC2/3/4 hours of practice have now gone to waste...

Still don't care about Tengu but hoping he makes a return (brutal honesty in it's most blunt form). My brother played him near the end of our time playing 2H and he loved Tengu but moved on to Bayman later.

Did anyone here play Tengu in DOAD? I'm wondering what changed between 4 and D, all I know is they gave him the wind gust and killed 8P+K. Was the wind at least worth anything?

By "wind gust" do you mean his :4::P+K: :5::P:? He's had that since 2 (I believe he had it in 4). It was/is a ranged attack with guard break properties. Pain in the ass until the day you learn it is blockable. Only good for keeping someone away from you if you are trying to wait out the clock but very unreliable in that case unless you actually can get it to hit for damage.

He didn't have it in 4. I dont't know what changed between 4 and DoAD cause I don't play handhelds.

I didn't get to play 4 enough to know much about differences between 2H and 4 other than the combat system and Leon and Ein updates.

Did Tengu have :7::K::P: in 4? Backflip kick launch into his forward flying rush knockback.

He pretty much plays exactly like he did in 2 in Dimensions but isn't nearly as devastating or dangerous. If he makes a comeback he needs to be a little more intimidating rather than be a joke of a boss character.

I too played 2H first one grew up on PS 1&2 but made the switch over to 360

He did 7K, 8P+K. His BnB was also 8PP 8P+K off everything.

I heard he got nerfed between 4 and doad. Which wasn't necessary cause he was bad in 4 also. I agree I wouldnt want him to be bs like alpha. As you said just be more dangerous the lowest be mid tier.

I exclusively played Tengu in DOAD. He was complete shit. The nerf to his 8P+K dive bomb was a huge hit. Having that guaranteed off of 7K and 8PP in DOA4 was just about his only useful tool, so I have no idea why they took it away in DOAD. Aside from that, he was pretty much the same, except that I believe his air throw received a minor damage buff and yes, his wind gust came back as his new 4P+K, with his 4P+K from DOA4 being remapped to 1P+K. This really isn't much of a buff to me though, as I never found the wind gust to be all that useful. It being a guardbreak is nice, but landing a guardbreak from full screen doesn't really do much for you. Plus the startup is just too damn slow.

He also received audio nerfs, as they changed a lot of the grunts that he did in DOA4, making him sound less cool. They changed the sounds he makes during his taunts too, except for the one where he laughs. His biggest audio nerf would easily be that of 9PT. He no longer laughs manically when connecting 9PT. He just silently swings his foe around. It's fucking lame.

On the plus side, his second costume (white palette swap of default) was badass. Tied with his C3 from DOA2U as my favorite Tengu costume.

Nightpup and MajesticBlue are pretty confident in telling me that he was slightly better in DOAD, possibly due to the changes to the stun game. Personally, I don't see it, but they're both more knowledgeable of DOAD than I am, as I only played it for a month or so before giving up on it. Perhaps they can shed some light on the matter.

They removed the laugh from 9PT... are you shitting me? That had to be my most abused move in DOA4, it's the laugh that made landing it feel so good ;_;

And wind didn't guarantee anything? That sucks. I think if it GBs with opponent in range it should at least give you free H+K or something.

Little worried about his comeback now...

Tengu being better in DOAD stems from the fact that his launchers were MUCH higher and he had more of them. You could do 1PP into 3P and juggle with 8PP T, for an example, whereas in DOA4 you'd have to settle for 8PPP.

Would Tengu even look that different in 5U? I imagine it'll be like Genfu's transition from 4 to 5... And they'll probably just give him 1 costume in 3 colors, but hey I'm cool with it.

It might have guaranteed something up close, but I didn't spend much time trying to find setups with it. I doubt that he can guarantee anything that makes that long startup worth it. Remember that it can be held up close.

Cant wait to see Tengu with the updated graphics and glorious final fantasy hair beard ..

I can't wait to see him too. I doubt his appearance is going to change though, beyond a graphical update, but said graphical update will be incredibly sexy.

I'm expecting the same. His appearance probably won't change much and he'll likely get shafted in the costume department. If he does in fact merely get three palette swaps, then I want these:

I'd like both of Tengu's system voices to return. I like the 2U version and the 4 version and would like to have the option to change between the two.

I didn't like 4 he sounded too normal. In 2U he was made out to be really evil. So you put on his system hear some overly calm dude. You ask yourself wtf is this? At least thats what I did when I heard it in 2U. I thought it was great cause it was so different from his character.

Are you referring to Tengu during fights in DOA4, or just his DOA4 system voice? I can understand not liking the system voice, but he still sounded badass while in play.
