I posted some comparison screenshots with the HD textures mod for Zack Island (from the video posted from @Fiend Busa), for me definitely the most interesting mod so far: first picture is from the original DoA5LR, the second one is from the mod.

In my opinion the outcome is pretty good and even the dark sand (even if preffering more the light one) in the end it's not bad. So I want say really great job to the author of it!

Updated Rig's shaved scalp w/beard, now fix with slightly better coloring.
I'm beginning to understand heads now. The top of his scalp needed to stay stretched... (so I used Zack's scalp and did some tweaking in PS). If anyone wants to add facial hair textures themselves, check out the link for the tutorial including Phlearn's Custom Facial Hair Brush preset for PS.

You can run it full screen. If you gonna play the game and not just rip textures you can do full screen with the loaded files.

The subtle mist pattern on the blue cloth is completely lost with this chunky knit laid over it. Also the cranes look like part of the cloth, not like they were painted on as they should. I don't know why someone would choose this outfit to give HD textures, it has some of the best in the game.

I agree. What I'd like to see is an HD mod that simply creates HD replicas of the originals, and also add HD textures to the SKIN of the characters. Let us see the detailing on the skin, too. Like Tomb Raider 2013's Lara Croft, where you can see every pore.

I think the game has been opened up. There is an application over at XenTax that lets you unpack and repack the bin/ink files that contain all the models and stuff.

Edit: Don't think you can do anything yet though not sure
