The guys making him aren't high level players and aren't going to know how to play every character on the roster.

I'm not a high level player, but I could play better than that Leon vid blindfolded with any character in the roster.

balance testing consists of a whole group of testers. claiming that since one of the developers on the team has no idea how to use one character must mean the character isn't good is illogical more than anything.

What's logical is that they should have gotten the best Leon guy in the office to demonstrate him, or at least a competent one. Since they didn't, it's not illogical to assume that such a player at TN doesn't exist. But of course in a similar scenario they did 10x better with Rachel. I'm not saying Leon will be "bad" (tier-wise, he'll always be fun as hell to play) and we don't know anything 100%, but it's not crazy to be skeptical.

Confirmed force tech, juggle potential that from what we know clearly outweighs Leon's, command side-step, etc.

On that note whats with all this Leon doom and gloom anyway? hes finally coming back and people still aren't satisfied and feel he won't be good enough because another "similar" character looks cooler in her match vids compared to his? really?

Rachel does not look cooler than Leon and I'm excited as hell to get back into the game with him. I'm just saying, from what limited we know, judging on past games and TN's favoritism cycles, he probably won't be as high a tier as Rachel, and it doesn't help that his "new stuff" is also being given to TN's latest walking breasts.

Not like any of that is going to stop me from using him. Regardless where he falls competitively, I'm gonna play the hell out of this badass mother-fucker.

Force Techs alone don't make or break a characters, how much advantage shes at and the properties of her attacks that can take advantage of force techs will dictate how good it is. not to mention once again we know nothing of potential force techs leon has.

Juggle potential doesn't really mean anything. eliot has some of the best juggle potential in the roster and we all know how he turned out. plus Leon never relied on juggles for his damage and always made best use out of dangerzones and wall damage which his grabs/air grab excel at offering. in the end rachel being better at juggling is a non issue if hes capable of equal or more damage without having to rely on long juggles

her command sidestep is a non factor since its nowhere near evasive as christies JAK and Baymans tank roll which both high crush and step simultaneously. its more like a glorified universal side step at best

Leon still has things over her too you know, like ground grabs and their guaranteed setups, damaging chain throws, a high crushing sitdown stun. a more damaging air throw thats aim-able giving the player freedom to take advantage of walls/dangerzones and if there are none around you can still use it for tactical positioning. in the end he will be a beast which is all that matters

This, however, I can agree with. Leon's never been a "top tier" character and that's never dissuaded me from using him in the past. He's always kicked ass and I'm sure he still will in 5U. I think many of us are just anxious to see him kicking ass and vids like the recent one released are sort-of like taunts rather than hype-builders.

This is one of the things that irritates me about this game. As much as I love the series to bits, it sometimes seems like if they've got tits they'll put more work into it.

Totally agree. It's like they're dangling just enough in front of us to keep us talking. I think i'd just like to see one video where he wins a match. That would be enough to tide me over. That said, it's only 3 weeks (ish) until it comes out now, so I doubt we'll get too much else.

LOL but though none of those characters play similarly you can easily say which is the better of the two, Sarah is the better rig , Gen Fu the better Eliot , Akira the better Kokoro , BUT I DIGRESS.

It's just because we all want Leon realized really well so we're worried is all. I'm not doom and gloom at all this is just how I was for SF4 hearing they were bringing Dudley back and he was butchered from his realization in third strike to the new game. Not saying Leon is going to be "Dudleyd". I'm sure we can all agree we want the best for Leon? That's all i'm worried he won't be realized well and that since Sarah has boobs she'll be realized better? It's the best way I can voice this yeah? We'll see what happens during Summer Jam.

I wouldn't say it was all doom and gloom regarding Leon, I'd say we're all just a little apprehensive as there isn't a lot of footage of him, and even less of him doing well. We're all happy he's back, it's just like KidArk said, we all want the best for him. I'm definitely the most excited for him, and the fact that he wasn't in vanilla was half the reason I dropped it.

I think the comparison to Rachel is probably because they're both slower power characters, and because she's a new fighter, and a girl, that we're concerned that she'll just be able to do everything Leon can but better for no specific reason. I'm all for Rachel being in the game, I think she should've been added a while ago, but she shouldn't be given more and better tools just because she's got a nice pair of funbags. But it doesn't matter to me that much, even if Leon ends up being lowest of the low tier-wise (which i find unlikely) I'll still main him.

In preparation for Saturday, I went through Leon's move list and had several matches from DOA 4 last night. This way, a new move should really stand out when I glance over the move list.

Pretty sure the Arm Grenade was used in the pre-release vid the other day, although I may be daydreaming. It's incorporated into his power blow as well isn't it?

You know how it is, we're just concerned because Leon has no tits and just disappointed he got beat so bad. There's nothing to do till he comes into our hands but complain that h's not in them yet. In other news anyone else feel Rachel might be the good Leon?

I'd be more worried about him being a shitty bayman clone. Honestly i feel Bayman got the most love out of all the grapplers in vanilla 5. one of the best evasive tools in the game with side tank roll, parries, back turned parries, back turned frame advantage throw, advance counters, the best offensive holds that do shit ton of damage along with his damaging throws, his guaranteed P+K sitdown and force tech shenanigans his insane wall reset game with his wall OH throw, and has some great mixups for a grappler. now add in his new backward tankroll which gives him a great command back dash to allow spacing and avoid wake up kicks and you have a complete beast of a character with no real weaknesses other than his speed.

with all this in baymans arsenal where does that leave leon? he has nothing bayman doesn't already have other than an air grab which doesn't make up for what he lacks in comparison to bayman. My main question is why would anyone choose to use leon over bayman? from all the gameplay vids he seems the same ole same ole from before without anything notably new so unless he has some secret hidden tools he'll most likely be inferior to bayman in every way
