still mind blown how MK1 just fizzled out on such a weak note, and I think it's a much better game than it's predecessor MK11, but popular opinion seems to think otherwise :/

Yeah MK1 felt like the better game but it wasn't doing much. And I agree with @Rikuto, MK9 was the best out of all of the Netherrealm MK canon.

I actually like MK1 a lot. Even more than MK11. I know it gets a lot of hate from fans and a lot of it are good reasons but imo its the funnest MK game. The combo potential with the Kameo system is crazy. Sadly, WB screwed everything up with their greed and it shows too with the recent Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection.

Many casuals seem to prefer MK11 over MK1 because the kameo system was too complex for them to utilize. But MK11 gameplay was just ass but it was a beautiful game (not that MK1 is ugly), there was no variety in combo's in 11. Love or Hate the Kameo system, but I respect NRS for being bold and trying something new.

imma say it, Hayate was the potential man of DOA5

Japan swore he was number 1, everyone says he has all the tools you need to win, yet when it came to winning when it counts, he was nowhere to be seen. you run into this character in pools all the time, yet you rarely see him in a top 4, so was he was actually all that or was he just all talk? who's to say

Jokes aside, I don't actually think Hayate is bad, Perfect Legend was consistently doing work with the character, and you had players like Shade, Rojikku, and even Hajin making top 8 appearances with him, but in retrospect it just seems like the amount of talk of him being the strongest vs the amount of times we saw him being strong in a competitive setting was severely lopsided

That was the time period where people thought Eliot was low tier though. The game was fairly new at the time and results weren't exactly finalized in game documentation.

Most of the stuff Hayate did back then was due to the vanilla ground game at first which made him pretty strong. That's more of a game thing than a Hayate thing. Hayate wasn't exactly pulling DOA3 cartwheel version of him.

Time is whenever, I've pre order this game years ago. Had a blast playing Project X Zone 1 & 2 (I missed out 2nd Game Pre Order Bonus Level that is based on Namco X Capcom, because I've spent $404 on DOAX3 Saikyou Edition at that time).

I have both games. I love the first one and beat it. The second game, however, was a bit overwhelming and I got stuck on the chapter where the enemies ambush the ship and there were time requirements.

Hot take. Not every RPG has to be open world and that some RPGs like Vesperia or even FF7 for the PS1, had something called an "Overworld" and was arguably a good formula that should stay / come back to at some point. Especially for JRPGs.

I'm good with overworld traversal being open world as long as faster travel & warping is added over time & some hidden goodies are sprinkled in here & there, just like in classic JRPGs with overworlds. But old school overworlds also shouldnt go the way of the dodo, especially by smaller budget or indie games... imo, we also shouldn't let prerendered backgrounds die out just like 8bit didn't die out.

I think it depends if it holds up or not. Like if the system was built upon it, the sacrifices isn't as severe. Open world these days get too ambitious and sometimes loses quality to fill a pseudo immersion when you have areas with open fields with nothing in it.

Because the VGA have games journalist as part of the jury, and these events are where player's voices matter less. If Chat GPT/A.I. was ever use, there would be waves of articles that A.I. is taking jobs away from those exact games journalist.

@Yuffie - There were two games I think that had censor changes with global releases.

In Berseria they had a scene where a child gets stabbed and hanging off a sword, but in the international release the child gets killed with magic instead.

In Xillia a certain character dies and does the middle finger. In the international release they change it to a index finger waving like a no.

Those two are the only ones that I can remember off the top of my head.

I think Zestiria at one point had some controversy with a certain character about being the heroine, certain dialogue changed, and the way the game was promoted, but because Zestiria sucked in general and didn't do so well, that controversy didn't last long I hear.

Agria's middle finger is actually restored in Xillia remastered they only censored the pipe

my guess is same goes for Berseria, use the censored child death scene but everything else is either untouched or restored
