DOA6 interviews

I'm just quoting this to add context to my statement, but I'm so impressed with the DoA quest mode. The concept itself is bomb for a fighting game. Love that he compared it to studying because it definitely holds some truth to it with how fighting games are set-up. Learn what to use when, learn this combo, learn this match-up. It can feel overwhelming if you really wanna get into it.
Anyone remember MK Deadly Alliance, quest mode? It played like a tutorial with some lore context. Later games it became an RPG-like mode and then a full on action game in Armageddon. Yeah, the idea isn't the first in a fighting a game.

I remember it in a bad way. Deception's whole story revolved around tutorials and I hated it, but appreciated it had some scale. This is a new idea for DOA at least, and it's a good one if the unlocks are worth it.

Ya, think I've said this before, but more than likely it pops back up in the inevitable 6U which will come out on the next gen consoles. I hate that DoA6 is hitting the same timeline as DoA5 and coming in at the tail end of a console generation. On one hand, there's more consoles thus more players, on the other, its the end of the console gen and the game will get like 1 year of life on it lol.

The reason this makes me sad is that it will lend credence to the stigma TN has nurtured about releasing 4 different versions of the same game without a whole lot changing. Hopefully they're smart about this and keep one core version that they can upgrade with DLC additions to the game like a free tag mode upgrade post launch (The lack of space on discs is not a valid excuse in the age of digital downloads/updates), graphical fixes along with balancing patches, and performance updates. There's no reason for TN to stop developing DOA6 once it launches.

Well, unfortunately that stigma will exist with casuals regardless of what game does this. Vanilla 5 and 5U had some pretty significant changes to a lot of characters and even to some of the core mechanics that your everyday casual just won't notice so they will think nothing changed in the new version.

This honestly happens in more than just DOA, so let's squash this in the bud right now. SFIV went through far, FAR more numerous re-releases and most of them was barely any real different than how Last Round came out(balance changes, new characters and that's it) and SSFIV was the only real biggest change between the original and an expansion.

MKXL is literally the same ordeal, except they fixed the netcode as their big thing. Even Arc Sys with the Blazblue games and Guilty Gear is absolutely no different.

This is a fighting game issue that has happened since Street Fighter and King of Fighters, this is honestly nothing new in the slightest.

I just don't like the idea of casuals looking at us like we're the problem for buying multiple version ala FIFA and MADDEN. They just don't understand that we're use to seeing it already.

To come back to the point of them trying to make people buy digitally, it’s not only cheaper for the companies but it’s also good for the environment and climate that the games are sold digitally. Planes and boats don’t have to fly/drive as often so the sky and sea are less polluted, less shipping boxes have to be made which saves trees and forests. Also, plastic is really bad for the environment and not everyone separates their trash, not everyone is careful with their cover or disc and just throw it in the bin where it doesn’t belong. It’s not only cheaper but also environmentally conscious (secretly I prefer physical games as well).

Who freaking cares as I take a page from Brute's portfolio(to the point of not tagging him). If they are going to be that selective and dumb, then that's their goddamned fault for being so stupid and hypocritical.

You didn't even need to be born in the 90's to see how SFIV and Blazblue do the very things they want to complain about DOA5 for.
If they insist on being stupid, then they are legit trying to cause issues or they are just that damn dumb, end of story.

We’re at the end of a console generation already? It feels like the PS4 came out like 2 years ago wtf
It's too adaptable tbh it isn't like the ps2 or even the ps3. It can be updated like boom. People don't care so much for graphics anymore. There isn't much to wow us in terms of technical aspects besides updating the specs. Untill VR gets so real you have to be physically fit to play, I don't see a reason to be impressed by improvements anymore. Last of us 2 seeming so fluid in animations with realistic and adaptive ai seems to be the future.

Erm, these systems cant even do stable 30 fps at 1080p, let a lone 60fps. They are definitely showing their age.

Yeah that's why I said, besides specs. However, people that buy consoles, most if not all, aren't looking at it for specs. Just a convenient way to play games. I meant from say someone being impressed at Vf1 back then till getting a console announcement now. All we can talk about is performance and Ray tracing is all the rage now, yay. If higher and stable performance (Only) are enough to warrent a new numbered console instead of more, "Pro" versions, I say go for it. What I'm getting at is, they'll see the number and think it's the next big thing when at this point in time, consoles are peaking. People we'll see pro versions and be like, eh, don't need to buy it. Do the same thing as the pro and put a number behind it, they'll suck it up like it is doing something amazing when it's really just a necessary change to stay relevant.
