DOA6 Story Discussion

I was rather confused with how the different character scenes unlocked but after a while I got used to it. I can see why everyone is so disappointed with the story...

-It seems like a lot of stories got cut off before fully concluding like Tina's run for governor (I figured they would bring up that she would be too young to run) and Kokoro's search for her own mother.

-With the exception of Honoka, it seems like every other girl added to DOA5 after the base release were just forced into the story. Nyotengu's role in particular seemed pointless.

-Given how popular she's become, I'm surprised Marie had very little to do in the story, she could have been cut and nothing different would have changed (I'm actually glad for this since I'm tired of the constant marketing for her).

-It's nice to see Lisa and CHristie have their own playable moments as well particularly Christe since having her win some fights establishes her as a threat. Would have been nice for them to explain how Lisa survived the end of DOA5 though.

-NiCO got more focus than I expected. The story did a good job of making her interesting. More so than Diego (did he even win the tournament since he collapsed after beating Jann?)

-The trick of blackeing the skyboxes of some stages to make it look like it was night time was really lazy.

-The twist of Rig having a split personality to explain his evil moments in the previous game was a nice twist since it set him up as a sort of anti-villain who I want to see become a good guy.

-The "reveal" that Honoka is Ayane's sister was rather predictable, did anyone even expect anything else? TN must think they were being very clever with that twist but I'm sure all of us figured that out from the start. I would like them to explain why she and Marie look the same though...

-I was a bit disappointed with the lack of a Phase 4 story; they set her up as some kind of unique, tragic character who is forced to fight the good guys by her masters then they just turn her into an army of redshirts who keep getting killed?

-I'm surprised by how little a role Ryu played in the story but at least he didnt lose a fight meaning he is still largely unbeaten in-universe. I imagine if they made him play a bigger role, he could solve everything instantly.

Overall, it's clear TN didn't want to focus on the story of the game to focus on gameplay (a good decision so far as far as I'm concerned) and its clear they wanted the encyclopedia and trivia entries to make up for the lack of story.

honoka honestly also feels forced into the story because not a whole lot happened outside of "people want the living nuclear bomb but stopped every turn by da good guys!". she should've really fallen into the wrong hands

still waiting for the day the ((((wicked)))) servant becomes ACTUALLY wicked for once. you baited me with that word three times, TN. you were holding a formula more interesting than the esteemed goody two-shoes, hyper schoolgirls and dainty flowers bloating this cast but didn't go anywhere with it

barely anything happened with mila, nyotengu and phase at all. didn't really mind tengu going around fucking with everyone else though.

- I did genuinely laugh at like two scenes. Marie trying to keep Hayate out and how Zack told Tina her governor dream is not gonna work out.
same, the interactions there especially stood the hell out in contrast to the lifeless [people are posing and talking] scenes
but i also like "the floor explodes". alluding to game mechanics is always good shit

Okay, here is my long opinion on the story mode.

Before i go into the story itself, i will say, the way the story was structured, was really similar to SCVI, where you had the main story, but also sidestories to go on the side, but SCVI did the route of using illustrations and still images and convey most of the story through audio/text, while DOA had to go the route of cutscenes, well, this has the advantage of following scenes is way easier and less boring, but you also limit on the quantity of content and the quality of said content you can make. So i'm not sure how i feel, but it was really annoying to navigate through the newly unlocked side chapters.

Now, on the story itself.

I liked it, a lot, i can't lie, is not any deep writing, but it has what i wanted from the series in a long time, development, characters moving on, fun momments and progression.

Leifang got a win on Jann finally, but then he wins against her at the end, but then, based on the trivia, they kinda acknowledge each other as strong fighters.
Eliot became a man, and that is shown in a lot of different ways, from his mastery of the style, to his attitude towards the ladies.
Hitomi got the short end, not doing much this time.

I love how Nyotengu is just a chaotic neutral presence trying to have fun and messing up with people.

Phase 4 is the big disappointment, they are just cannon fodder.

Ayane, my main, one of my favorite characters if not my favorite, i have to say, i didn't like the idea of she being the one needing rescue this time, but the way it was implemented i quite enjoyed, first, how she choose to call Kasumi and Hayate, showing that she really is over the hateboner she had on kasumi on doa 1 ~3, second, how she wasn't actually defeated, third, how she cares about honoka, even more when finding that they are sisters, and finally, how she is in the final fight, showing she as a powerful character and not behind hayate or kasumi.

Ryu got the mandatory helicopter boss fight, and was more on the sidelines, i like that, he has Ninja Gaiden to shine.

Kasumi was kind of out there, like in DOA 5, just appearing at the end to help the others, i feel that her character arc doesn't have much to go foward either.

Nico is interesting, but they tried to explain too much with the little screen time she got, so it was weird.

The duality of Rig and Donovan Jr. Is also something i wanted, kinda make me wish that Rig somehow gets rid of Donovan Jr.

For now i think that is it.

Also, for last but not least.

Hayate got removed from jobber status, finally he did stuff and wasn't a damsel in distress.

All that cut content. Do you think we'll get it someday ?
I don't think so unless they make another iteration, and even DOA5 didn't do that with the 3 they had xD

I also don't think there was really any cut content, I think they had a budget and seeing how the other games didn't focus on their stories as much, they didn't focus on theirs, plus the scenes we saw in old trailers were from the final story so I think the story was finished fully around the time Nico was shown tbh

Okay so the story to me wasn’t that bad.

Diego- I like his little thing with Mila and him being a hometown hero and not giving up in the fight with Jann Lee thought that was nice

Helena/Kokoro- the whole Tea spill with NiCO I lived for it and was shook when Helena started crying (because it’s true that’s all she has left is Kokopuff touched my sensitive feelers)

Honoka/Marie Rose - their little episodes were cute and nice that she fought so hard to save Honoka. At first it was a mission but I feel they became great friends.

Ayane/Honoka - The whole sister reveal was great (even though it was heavily hinted in DOA5 through intros so it wasn’t a big shock to me) it was nice to see Ayane care for someone other than Hayate, when Honoka was on the floor and ayane reached out to her I was floored with how sweet that was.

NiCO/ Christie - Was bland, NiCO acting very cunty and Christie acting like whatever was a little meh.

Nyotengu - The whole trickster and Tengu whispers I knew why she was there, as someone stated. Just to fool around and run a muck and I lived for it, her little mock of ayane was awesome.

Rig - his little trigger was a great story implementation but wish they ran with that a little more and involved bass in saving his bestie.

Helena/Maria - my ass litterally was like “No... No OH MY GAHHHDD *squeak/screech*” when NiCO was talking and showed Maria, it showed when Lady Helena slapped that hoe I was clapping and hooting then she went on a rampage on how she was happy with finally accepting grief I loved it tbh.

So 8/10 for me personally

Everything else was a little forgetful tbh

I mainly dislike the lack of Kasumi in this one, seems like the bigger the cast gets the less we'll see of her. Like you could actually take her out the plot and nothing would change. One could say there's not much to her story now but I think TN just doesn't know what to do with her
The problem with Kasumi is that she doesn't live like a nukenin anymore, and the mather of Phase-4 and the Alpha Project is handle now by all the Mugen Tenshin clan, and not just her.

Team Ninja should humanize Phase-4 more and give Kasumi the mission to understand and free her clone(s) instead of destroying them, so she get a proper plot. That or dealing with Donovan and his obsession with her personally. But Team Ninja has shown how little they care about Phase-4 with this game, being mere fodder.

Unlike with Lisa at the end of 5, there was no scream when the helicopter was shot down so she survived.
I mean Lisa screamed and she still survived lmaoo

what if no screams actually confirms her to be dead?! conspiracy theory time!:eek:
