It’s stupid. Some people in the FGC are tier whores and only play a character that’s considered “high tier”. Those are the type of people that only enjoy to win the match instead of actually enjoying the match.
@KasumiLover I feel the same way too. Don't give a damn how good or bad my main(s) are (unless it was Tekken 7 before Season 2). But I do see a lot of players focus on characters that are top-tier just show that they are better than any other players just to win or trying to act like professionals.
No one wants to play a game where their preferred characters are weak, so if someone's main went from top tier to competitively irrelevant, then there's no shame in quitting. But if it's like "my main went from S tier to A tier, im quitting" then yeah, thats dumb. But some ppl only like the dumb stuff, and there's nothing wrong with that, I just wish ppl would be more honest about it
Haha, @Camel with 2 thumbs a person I spoke with actually straight-up said that he only played DOA6 because 'Tina was dumb' then pretty much dropped the game after she was nerfed. Brings up some interesting discussion with regards to overly effective or overly easy characters (looking at you NiCO) being used to bring more players into your game. I personally don't approve of it. Attracts scrubs.
Also depends on why you play, if you play competitively then it only makes sense to gravitate towards dumb characters. But if you're one of those "I can only get my rocks off by playing (insert character here)", then fck it, play them regardless of strength
@Force_of_Nature I can respect a man who's that blunt about their character selection. But hey, the strong stuff will always be popular, that s why every1 and their grandmother played Christie and Helena in doa5 but after a few big nerfs they are nowhere to be found in doa6, except for a few
everyone who dropped them probably plays Nico now lol
It happens in most games and I've personally always disliked it. If you wanna play a character just because they're OP, that's fine and go ahead. However, to me there's no winning if you only play a character because they're OP. If you win, of course you win because your character is OP. If you lose you're just an idiot who lost with an OP character.
I have no idea how high Tina and the new girl would rank on an actual tier list, so for the point above I’m just using an extreme case. Personally I’d rather find a character who I enjoy and learn them as well as I can. I don’t care if I win or lose with my tech and playstyle that I came up with. Those matches will always be more fun to me than playing a strong character for the sake of winning.
@Camel with 2 thumbs My preferred character took dozens of nerfs, some of which make no sense whatsoever. I now play other characters.
"My character got nerfed so I quit" is a popular emotional excuse. The game is the game. One character is barely even a part of it. And I do believe most people are simply unable to have fun without being outright given their wins on a platter.
@Rikuto dam it's that rough for Bayman now in 6? I never knew, my condolences
but yeah, i forgot play other character is definitely an option lol
that said if I walked into DOA6 and Nyotengu got nerfed I could easily see myself pulling a "screw this game im out", or maybe i would of just hyper focused on Honoka, who did get nerfed but is still viable, although Nico makes her irrelevant :/
i play christie too lol but i didn't use her cause she was op i liked her move set and play style, maybe it depends on the player all you really need to do is learn the match ups forget frames if you know what your doing.
I admit this kinda-sorta happened to me with Season 1 Chun-Li of SFV unknowingly and then overtime because it just felt pointless. It was mostly out of boredom. Took the fun out with no IAL and Ibuki's ex bomb resets. Been in a character crisis since and quit. Sakura only exists with ST. LK, HK tastu +1 and grab BS. Makoto the only character I'd play that is considered either good or bad/shit no questions.
SFV isn't the kinda game to nerf characters when it's not that interesting to begin with. DoA to a lesser extent as well. The games that nerf characters and have you not notice at all or later on are the good games right there.
That sounds like one of the worst reason to quit entire game or a character. Nerfs is nothing more than how much an advantage the character has. I would only care about a character based on who interest Me and based on how they fight, not really care about balance adjustment.
If they wanna rob themselves of seeing their true potential with a character they think they enjoy, then their heart was in the wrong place with the game to begin with. What they need is true inspiration. Something beyond just winning and money.
