Why should DOA5 NOT have a 6-Point Hold system?

Thank you for your summary of the feelings of every player from the UK. I'm sure the reality is more that DOA has been off the radar for SO long that people will be coming to it as if a new game and will look at the hold system as a new mechanic to learn. With longer recovery plus CB and...

Why should DOA5 NOT have a 6-Point Hold system?

This is a non-topic. They heard this feedback already and determined 4 point was the best balance of accessibility and decision making. The merit of having an extra point (but not more) for the standard holds for mid kick is because the majority of the attacks are mid, making 3 point too...

yeah that sucks... I only am intermediate at SC5, but that backdash nerf cuts both ways, new players also lose a good and easy to learn tool. Dumb move.

I don't think its quite fair to say they haven't been convinced, as we've seen a lot of evidence of their willingness to make solid changes for the competitive betterment of the game. The fact is we don't really know what they've been convinced of or not. We haven't had a clear discussion...

Do you like the critical burst?

Just quoting this to show the key thing we want to ensure is in the game... no shaking out of Sit down stuns, so the right situations will give a guaranteed CB!

Hori making a Dead or Alive 5 Arcade Stick

My usual refrain applies here. Don't wait for doa5 to come out to practice on stick, just get vf, play on stick now, and then your body(check) will be ready.

    DOA: Flaws and Tournament Viability

I'm at work now so limited time to reply, but this is a great post that re-focuses attention on the key issues, so kudos :) I knew there was potential derailment discussing SC comparisons, which I will follow up elsewhere, but for now... Very good points that addresses the specific issue of...

    DOA: Flaws and Tournament Viability

Good points Raansu on 3.1 vs 4. Wouldn't you agree that doa5 has implemented similar improvements over 4? Sidestep and wall punishment both looking good. Punishing poor counters and creating fear of countering, check and check. The main issue is making sure you can connect CB reliably, such as...

    DOA: Flaws and Tournament Viability

I get his point and I agree with it, I just don't agree that these other game don't involve guessing - its a distracting side point when we agree what needs to be done next with - and we agree here too - the already much improved doa5. I can elaborate on sc5 elsewhere but let's leave it at - its...

    DOA: Flaws and Tournament Viability

I don't see how the scenario for zack described above is much different to Brad in vf. His ducking stance involves a read(guess) one hen the string is going to end or whether he will cancel and attempt something else. The zack player has to think about thins in a similar way. The point is...

    DOA: Flaws and Tournament Viability

I like your solutions and I'm totally with you, but I can't leave the comment on SC unchallenged. There is SO much guessing in that game and it's of the same type as in VF - high/low, but the quality of the mind game is so much lower because of the ambiguous animation and the stupid exceptions...

    DOA: Flaws and Tournament Viability

That's precisely the approach we need to take. Be positive, but pragmatic. Plan to support the game at events. Just going to events will do a lot for your development as a player and enjoyment of fighting games generally. If you find you are not enjoying the game, then go on to other games...

    Dead or Alive competitive commentary

Hey Markman it's great to see you pop up here. As for commentary I think Shidosha from the VF scene is a guy to bring across on us streams for Doa. He's already shown interest in the game. In Australia it will be me and a few others - you'll see at upcoming events.

Tournament system of choice for DOA5?

One thing we should avoid is making a recommendation "as a community" to endorse one over the other or worse put a system in any "official" ruleset. I think 8wayrun made a mistake doing that. Let the event determine it and if it's Byo stick, be prepared.

Damage looked ok so long as everyone has setups that can deliver big damage it will make Doa more fast paced and exciting

    DOA: Flaws and Tournament Viability

I call nonsense on string delay being called out as the reason DOA is not considered a competent fighter. Its the perception of the hold system, but lets address the minor items on the flaws list. String delay is a good, viable part of the game - its a great measure for controlling your...
