1.20 Requires PS4 Players to Pay Tickets Each Time a Hair Color Change Is Done

UPDATE 3/6/2020: Team NINJA tweeted an official apology to the fighters and stated that they were working on a better alternative to distribute hair colors. So players are encouraged to not purchase anymore colors until the issue has been rectified. The big hope is that players are able to use their perpetual pile of in-game currency to purchase & swap hair colors.

UPDATE 3/1/2020: While we wait for an official response from Koei Tecmo the mainstream press has started dismantling the "bizarre" business practices of the company. YouTuber, YongYea and Kotaku have also recently joined the fight against Koei Tecmo for their poor treatment to dedicated players.

UPDATE 2/25/2020: We here at Free Step Dodge have received word from a Team NINJA representative that the present functionality of requiring the player to purchase a hair color even if previously purchased is by design. At this time, if you would like to share your feedback to Team NINJA and KOEI TECMO, you have a few options available to you. It would be great if feedback was given by everyone and in any form of content about this situation if capable. Forms of content include but are not limited to Articles, Video, Images, Posts, or Streams. Always tag the company and game's official accounts and use big text in each of the posting. Also here are the Customer Support links as well:

ASIA Customer Support http://www.gamecity.com.tw/html/support/index.html

For those planning on doing this, sooner is always better than later.

UPDATE 2/24/2020: The PlayStation 4 version of the game currently forces players to repurchase any previously purchased colors, and it requires you to spend Player Points to set the hair color to the character's original hair color. Team NINJA has not yet responded officially to questions. Please do not purchase alternate colors at the moment as we await confirmation from Team NINJA that this is designed functionality. This article will be updated as further news comes in.

A few weeks ago Team NINJA supplied us with their biggest free update for Dead or Alive 6 yet, and now that 1.20 has released we can see that Team NINJA is using this update to focus on cosmetics and new collaborative DLCs from the Atelier Ryza & Gust franchises plus hair color changing functionality exclusively to PS4. 1.20 which released the 25th of February. Judging by one of Team NINJA's recent Tweets, there will be some bug fixes, but real game changes are being reserved for another month. Like always this story will evolve over time with more information and news!

The added hair colors initially ignited some hype from the DOA community, but they are not releasing without an intense controversy that we haven't seen in the Dead or Alive community for years. If you jump through a few hoops to mod hair color changes on PC you can comfortably change your character's hair color to any hue imaginable. From Team NINJA, this feature is set to launch exclusively to PS4 for the exchange of 'Premium Tickets.' We reached out to Team NINJA for confirmation on exclusivity to this feature and they've responded to reinstate that hair color swapping will not be coming to the XBOX ONE or Steam platforms.

With all of this being said, it shouldn't come off as too much of a surprise as they introduced hair color changes with Dead or Alive 5 and Lisa's silver hair is also currently available in Dead or Alive 6. Pricing has been revealed to be one (1) Premium Ticket for each color and due to the fact you must reset the hair color, it creates a huge monetized obstacle for all of DOAs dedicated players.

The Gust & Ryza collaborative outfits look classy & tasteful compared to the consistent bikinis, and new titles have been added in an event that is similar to DOA6s Dumbbell Collaboration last year. While this is not the update gameplay purists are looking for, you can expect more big changes around the release of the Venus Vacation character next month.

Ryona at Japan EVO from Shimbori. You think KT forced that?
If it came down to that? yeah maybe, it's possible. It's how KT -currently- wants to market the game. Remember that the hostess thing wasn't even part of the schedule, it was thrown in there and hired those women on the spot by a KT member near Shimbori and then it got shut down by Markman's group because they didn't even know it was thrown in there to begin with. They actually thought it was a hijack, which leads to an ironic moment that made Joey (Wiz) look like a fool that time (thus CoreValues was born, because of EVO's...well, Core Values lol) so it was a sort of win (it's a mix). There are some things that Shimbori wanted to do but he couldn't because he has his own boss. People would get at Shimbori about "Promises he couldn't keep" but yet some of it was things he just couldn't do based of what he's given, so he was taken the fall for it.

Not once did people ever question them with why Nioh was better received than DOA, it's because TN had full house members with KT's approval and budget. All TN really doing is their job with what they were given which is pretty fair no? sounds to me that KT is the real source here.

So what you are saying is these women came in and surprised Shimbori. He maybe even had the hots for them and wanted to show off his game in a unique way. :kula: I can actually buy that.

Probably? wasn't part of the main schedule as they were recently hired, but might even be a case of "Oh shit KT... gotta play it their way. Damn alright, I can adapt to this one on the fly since it's easy as fuck I bet, just doing my job".

In my opinion? I think that the fans of DOA and Team NINJA themselves, know DOA more than Koei Tecmo themselves.

Looks like this was the final hair for some people, or at least within a hair's breadth of it, lol. (sorry, some one had to do it)

Is it bad that I considered they might really go this far? :/

Anyways, yeah, of course that one guy made a mod that took 15 seconds. Anyone who has changed the colour of anything on any editing program knows that it's literally as easy as changing a number or a few numbers. You're paying every time to literally change numbers.

But I wish people would stop saying "PC has this feature for free". Mods don't count, otherwise you could say PC has everything for free. Hair colour change is not officially an option for Xbox or PC. Some people might not want to use mods for whatever reason, even if it's simply principle. This is PS4 exclusive BS, lol. I was thinking of saying "Hey, I'd have at least bought one hair colour if they gave me the option to on Xbox" but if it's like this, I don't think so... I don't want to pay every time I switch between Tina's blonde and brunette hair, screw that. Aside from bug fixes, this update is truly a nothingburger that just makes me think worse of KT.

The update finally finished installing so I checked out the hair colour options; as tempting as it is to get the brown hair for Tina and Rachel, the whole having to pay for every colour change is a total deal breaker.

I'm almost tempted to just uninstall the game at this point...

Jokes aside, I do believe Manny when he says he's looking into it though. Japan doesn't care, but with vocal support it can be changed.
Poor guy, I bet when he took the job he had no idea in which direction DOA would go. Now he has to defend/explain/mitigate actions of a greedy company that doesn't give a damn about any of its loyal fans. DOA fans (or what is left of them) are only there to be milked dry to the very last drop.

The PDF is up https://teamninja-studio.com/doa6/us/images/update/doa6_update_v120_en.pdf

The colours only work with the certain listed hairstyles listed there. Does that mean if I changed Tina to brunette, she'd still be blonde if I gave her the santa hat?

But more importantly, the much anticipated (by me) bug fixes:

Fixed the issue that prevented replays working correctly with certain costumes.
Fixed the issue where incorrect hairstyles were sometimes displayed when fighting on certain costumes.

Oh.

I didn't buy a hair colour option (because why?) but from what I could tell, only standard hair styles (styles without hats or accessories) can be colour changed.

I imagine they think we're stupid enough to buy the styles that can be "destroyed" thru break blows because that sort of means we get two (!) recolours....

The menu popup says a ticket is used every time, so it's not looking like it. I think the glitch thing is their plausible deniability if the pushback is too great.

Updated the article with the following information that I'd suggest every fan of the series pursue and follow.
