Alright so I played some DS2 and
holy shit that Pursuer boss fight was random as hell. I got there and did absolutely no damage to the guy. I soon figured out I could use those massive ass stationary crossbows or whatever they are and that left him with just about three pixels of health. Also I have no idea what weapon to use.

Strafe to his left lol. He's really not that bad, just need to be patient.

Don't bother with the ballistas. It's only doable via summons. It isn't worth the effort. Best to twohand and slowly chip away at him. Again, strafe to his left constantly!

Haha but it worked. They literally did 95% of damage. I just lured him over to the fog where I came from and ran like a mofo. I could hit the last three pixels off with my *kuch* shortsword. *kuch*

The Pursuer fight can be done with the ballista without summons with no damage taken quite easily.

But aside from that trick, the fight is complete and utter bullshit. @Pictured Mind can now go back to the earlier pages of this thread and truly appreciate all of my ranting on that stupid boss.

The good news is that he's one of only two challenging bosses I've encountered in the game thus far, and is the cheapest one by far.

Haha I got him on the second try. This is just one of those bosses that gets really easy once you know how to do it just like a lot of bosses in the original.

You're planning to play the original part sometime too? There are some bullshit bosses in that game too.

Anyways. I made a deal with myself to defeat at least one boss in DS2 before I can play DS again. Otherwise I won't complete DS2 untill 2047.

I was gonna recommend Epicnamebro and VaatiVidya too @His Reverence for lore.

Regards to lore in DS2
It was pretty much known/recognized from the start that DS2 takes place a great deal of time after DS1. The places are named differently (frequently mentioned as "forgotten"), locations look very similar to past locations (I thought the Dragon Shrine looked a lot like Ariamas from the initial trailer), and items that appeared in DS1 have flavor text or titles that infer that they were from the past (in this case just look at the Four Knight rings).

Secondary spoiler for lore in DS2 (late game, as in it is literally one of the last things you can do after Dragon Shrine).
The Memory of Dragon. I want to know if that dragon is the same one from the Dragon Covenant in DS1. It's bigger, yeah, and has some physical differences but it can't be Seathe and there aren't any other dragons of note in the series.

Oh, and in the Gutter
The big spider-bug-thing that you can wail on and won't go aggro on you cures poison but degrades equipment durability. That is literally all it does if you don't kill it. If you kill it you get moss, that's it. At the end of the area is the perfect place to put it of course.

Pursuer
I thought Pursuer was easy in his actual boss fight. (As I've mentioned a million times before) I just threw lightning at him and the fight was over faster than the ballitsta method (believe it or not). I fought him cqc in one of the secondary fights before I went with my faith build and he was still pretty easy provided you figured out when to block/roll/retaliate.

The Pursuer's fight in the Iron Keep was very easy because I was actually LEVELED UP WITH SOME DAMN EQUIPMENT. The problem with the Pursuer's first fight is that he's placed way too damn early. A new character doesn't stand a chance against that shit using a melee-only build unless they use the ballista.

Yeah, but if you try to fight him when you first see him and wonder why it's taking forever to get him to fight back that is the funny part. Then when his health bar (finally) appears and you finally see how much damage you did and are like "Are you freaking serious?"
