DOA5LR Game Theory on... Competitive DOA?

The genius game theorist, whom is aware of his catching good looks... pastes his face onto Christie and says that the skimpy outfits are distracting and that the community leaders were wrong for the soft ban. My question is, if this is a strategy; shouldn't it be banned? Wouldn't that mean the community did the right thing? Because it's not a fair strategy if it was ever considered one to begin with.

I didn't support the soft ban on outfits, but at this point I'm not sure I really care. Do you agree with this game theorist, or do you think his claims are ridiculous?

Uhhhhh... Oh God... Part of My brain cells just died...

His talk about being able to legally play Mature Rated games especially DOA is very stupid, does that apply to any other Mature Rating game like MK, GTA, COD too? Oh wait maybe because their western mainstream gaming and has blood & violences (possibly sex & genitals which Japan does censor) which is considered acceptable, but games like DOA, Senran Kagura, or Moero Chronciles (Moero Crystal) which has sexy female characters & may contain ones that look or are actually minors (considering age of consent in various countries, along with what is allowed in various media) the devils work and should be removed from existence.

Part of the rating was one thing, but when he starts talking about competitive play & strategy this is just beyond a simple theory, that theory is just illogical (unless if that person gets distracted too easily or is shy by a female present),and it is highly unacceptable. If I was working for YouTube or a FGC community that wants to contain a peaceful community or deliver proper news, that video would be removed or that article will never be part of the news (even if I get criticized for censorship) because stuff like this is not be accepted.

When he starts bring up that sexy costumes are "key gameplay" & "strategic game elements" for DOA, it really sounds like he doesn't even know or has ever played DOA at a competitive level & that strategy is just pure non existent which if they were pinned against high level DOA players like MASTER for example that person trying to use very revealing costume would fail, and even without these sexy costumes that person would still fail because of the amount of practice from countering, delivering powerful combos along with using parts of the stage to leading their opponent near death, & preforming the Izuna Drop. DOA sexual content is not part of the gameplay, its just an optional costume and there is no advantage (like SC IV customization), and it adds no strategy for competitive play. His comparison on DOA sexy costumes & MK below belt move barely qualifies as comparison especially gameplay.

Even the information about Sexual Arousal Slowing Reaction Time were just pulled from other sources that may or may not be accurate, along with "what gets Men to feel stimulated" mostly comes from something else and may possibly not even played DOA in their entire life. Even if I was to use revealing costumes when playing DOA, my reaction time would never drop because of costumes (DOA is pretty tame compare to other games with ecchi content or hentai) since I've been a long time DOA fan.

Why would high heels & body figures or poses even effect Men's attention? That would be like using Anna Williams (Tekken) high heels or seeing her poses will make men get distracted (which her poses only happen intro or outro cutscene) just so your the top Tekken player.

"What about female players? Wait do those exist?" Wow... talk about some research... these guys even know what a woman likes, but they may get distracted by the guy's butt. Oh wait, woman's reaction time isn't fast anyway... (just shoot me, I don't want to live!) Even those studies about females like "sexual arousal for Men" may not be accurate, or the tests involved didn't have games like DOA (assuming these kind of people really care about games).

Their video was just worst thing that ever exist, and I don't consider this entertaining. Their information about high level play is just non existent, the sources they've only used may have nothing to do with gaming or people's attraction could be something completely different, talking like sexuality is the key to defeating your opponent, and their talk about females especially saying something like "do those exist" just shows how lazy this information is & didn't want to put any effort looking up DOA competitive scenes, makes it sound like woman's attention span is weaker than men!

"Game Theory: The Strategy of Appeal in Dead or Alive" deserves to be deleted, and their information should be wipe clean by delete it from computer or take their document about their strategy put it in the shredder. These guys deserve that F, like part of their video when Superman's weakness is involved.

I subtly think the point of the video was to indirectly mock the shit out of the DOA "competitive community", and found it both hysterical and disturbing that people were actually trying to have serious discussion over the bullshit arguments presented, as if any of those people have played DOA competitively before.
Part of me agrees with you but the other part doesnt since we already know who and what this game was geared towards. There's still no context with the fanservice still.

*sigh* this bullshit again...
I for one am on the same boat, which I'm really sick of information like Kotaku's article & Game Theory's so called strategy. One of my goals when going to EVO is trying to help DOA5LR to become part of the mainline for next EVO, and maybe somehow give DOA the push it needs. The idea I have in mind is if I win DOA5LR, Tekken 7, or even win money from slot machines I would want to split part of My money to give DOA the support it needs, help out Big E Gaming or Team Ninja. Would that help?

ATTN EVERYONE: the video article states both sides of the argument and takes no side to it. It's really a video made from nothing but it pays DOA some attention. Someone should make a video to stating how it's how boobies are a none issue, a steady stream of income for TN as thay can release stripper outfits forever and state just DOA's egaming history... that it's richer than most other fighting games.

-------

Of course we don't. But we have a wide range of commentators, so you never know. Eventually, someone is going to be that guy. Eventually, some player is going to be that player. And the stream monsters are always going to be acting stupid. You can't control it.

The best you can do is help create a better environment, which is what we attempted. Unfortunately, people decided it would be more fun to act like drama queens. Our mistake.
Stream monsters. It's like reading the comments on youtube or news articles. What people are you referring to when you say drama queens (hopefully we're not talking about like 1 or 2 guys)? It's important to define so it can be addressed.

Jesus guys, he is a comedian, not an actual scientific person. His debut was about Mario being a socialist world movement character and Peach being an emotional train wreck with agendas of world domination.

Holy smockes, you need to understand satire more, where I want to face palm over many of these comments. If you actually get to the point of wanting to "argue against him" or "disagree", you've already missed the point.

he's honestly gotten worst over time trying to keep up with demand.

this guy used to be able to convince me of some absurd shit, but lately he's just been staying the obvious more and more.

So wait a min what would happen if someone was gay guess that means someone's winning Evo this year!! Man Game theory are running out of ideas i only like the episode on the legend of zelda timeline.

Anyone who got upset over the soft ban and cried about it over their status updates for weeks on end, and anyone who made articles or videos about it. Those are who I would consider to be the drama queens in this case, because they attempted to create an issue where there wasn't one.

I would imagine 99% of the people complaining and even the "gaming media" reporting didn't actually understand what a soft ban entailed, but they went to extremes to complain about it anyway and blow it up as far and wide as they could. I won't accept ignorance as an excuse for this behavior either, unless your name is Floyd Mayweather you are capable of comprehending the written word and finding out what a soft ban is.

There are a lot of guilty individuals out there, and every last one of them should be embarrassed as hell at themselves.

I mean, do you understand we had people actually signing up on FSD from other websites JUST TO COMPLAIN about the soft ban? What kind of a fucking moron does a person have to be to do that? It's ridiculous.

There was also a followup interview with Kotaku and the people who pushed for the soft ban to happen. You can see it was never posted, that's because when Kotaku actually understood what the soft ban entailed and the reasons they realized there was no drama or hits it would add to the site so decided to not post it.

Project Leafhead has spoken, The video itself is quite humorous and the soft ban itself is neutral in terms of how I feel about it. DOA as a franchise is still not where it needs to be to be balanced between tailoring its games to fanservice and the serious players. To be honest costumes like Tina's C7 (RWB Swimsuit) doesn't affect my mind when I see someone use it, It is really just a costume on a video game character. However most of the costumes dubbed "sexy" aren't even appealing to most people, and really are just ugly.

This leads to my theory that DOA needs to go more realistic with its characters, which will make the franchise taken more seriously. Yes keep the Bikini's for the people who love them, but also let characters wear street clothes, ninja suits, traditional clothes that are not altered to make them revealing.

As seen with MK X, how better the characters look with more realistic features and the emphasis on breast mechanics aren't that relevant any more. DOA needs to start maturing before we argue why this company isn't taken seriously. Make gameplay the focus, and make this fighter go from casual to tournament. This all means reducing the amount of costumes that are tailored for fanservice, removing the vulgar or over-the top costumes that really aren't relevant for fighting. If these costumes are really in need, then make a new DOA volleyball game. I would like to see any character to be more unique in all the costumes made for them, I want the costumes to resemble who they truly are. Like how is a bikini that shows most of a character's body have to do with a fighting style like Ba Ji Quan, or the character originating from Japan?

This game needs to study more on fashion of the personalities of each character. Rachel is more cold and a mature women, which her costumes should resemble. Her C2 the Business suit/skirt is a perfect choice for her personality. I mean this is the only way this game would be taken more seriously. No more Police, Playbunnies, "Ultimate Sexy", Generic Christmas Costumes, Generic Christmas Costumes Redone, etc. More original pieces for the characters that are looked at in the sense of being original, and unique. Which will be all the cast, each of them are distinct clone or not. All costumes made for EACH character, should be based on this alone. Yes I like cosplays, but I don't prefer fanservice made costumes.

You have the right idea, but the main reason why DOA5 is not taken seriously is due to the ignorance of the FGC and the general gaming public to how the game mechanics operate at a competitive level. The over focus on sexuality does contribute to the stigma of the franchise, however when someone see's and understands how the game works at a competitive level, they realize how deep and complex the gameplay actually is and begins to look past all the rampant "fanservice". I will admit that all the focus on slutty costumes and titty jiggle physics don't help matters exactly, but when someone is ignorant of how the game works, that's all they'll unfortunately will see.

But thats not what the game wants to be rather they'd be catered for the juvenile at heart with the no context fanservice.

Well said, sir. You should post this on his YouTube channel.

Yeah, supposedly they tried ot get ahold of me too (if you can see my PMs, go for a quick read). I noticed they were overly anxious and suddenly not even there.

This leads to my theory that DOA needs to go more realistic with its characters, which will make the franchise taken more seriously. Yes keep the Bikini's for the people who love them, but also let characters wear street clothes, ninja suits, traditional clothes that are not altered to make them revealing.

I agree. I like how human DoA5's version of the characters are, but all that effort to make them "believable," to quote the interviews, went out the window with the constant masquerade parties. There's 4 types of outfits, IMO: Business (the few there are awesome), Casual (Street clothes), Fun (references to other games or just palin silly like a banana suit or duck suit), Sleezy (fetish outfits). We need more of the first to by far, though they take the most effort to make since they're boring. The difference, though, is that they're high contrast to what we see thus would have the most purchasing power not just among DoA fans, but video game fans in general since real clothes aren't normal.

This game needs to study more on fashion of the personalities of each character. Rachel is more cold and a mature women, which her costumes should resemble. I don't mind the cheap ideas like the police outfits and such since they're both "fun" and "business." I really like seeing characters like Bass and Bayman being classy. I wouldn't mind to see some of the women in suits, but realistic suits, not french teacher suits.

Uhhhhh... Oh God... Part of My brain cells just died...

I shoudl've thought about this earlier. Actually, his comment here is valid: if a character is underage, but you have to be of age to play the game, even if she is not real, is this no different than Lolita Complex? What if we were watching etti of underage women? A quick google search shows that that is theoretically against the law, with only legal precedents to use as a defense.
