That's exactly it, what made Hayate so great in DOA4(tho he wasn't Ryu tier)was his mid range moves, his old wind dash wasn't the fastest, but it was a signature to using him to the limit, and the actual wind dash to switch sides was very useful.I would have liked it if they added more uniqueness to Hayate's moveset; IMO he's a very boring character, but has a interesting story plot. Kasumi has flashy teleport combo's, and many sit down stuns from elbow attacks, Ayane is more versatile with her spins being able to cancel some attacks into them. Hayabusa utilizes his ninpo stance more in DOA5. Then there's Hayate; what's his signature? What makes him special? Why would I pick Hayate over the other 3 ninja's? He has a nice stance, but you "DON'T" have to use it.
Now he's exactly the same, some of his strings are finished with a generic mid punch or palm/double palm. Like others have said, you still have to play DoA4 Hayate, and frankly all his juggles? They're exactly the same. Only difference? He can 66kkk out of some of his launches.
Funny tho. All the ninjas have a way directly into their stance from a combo, and a direct way to get to the stance outside of combos, but old Hayate doesn't... hm.
