Shimbori explains why they changed break blows on Marie, Honoka and NiCO

I don't understand the logic on this. There's literally an option to turn the violence off. Why do they feel the need to exclude just those three for such a dumb reason when those people could just turn the setting off....

Because the Japanese fanbase legit has issues with their waifus... serious issues. If you ever heard about how hard they get and go on people who dare tarnish their girl, it can be almost as bad, if not worse, than the things you hear from the Steven Universe fanbase.

For them, they have no problem with anyone else getting hit with a BB(or not as much) unless it's them(because they brought in the new set of fans) in which case I don't want them to get hit at all.
It's some real dumb shit like that.

Well, that raises another question. How did TN, a Japanese company, not see the backlash coming? If protecting da waifus is such a big deal in Japanese otaku culture, shouldn't TN have known beforehand that Marie Rose getting pimp slapped in slowmo would result in some form of nerd outcry? They shouldn't have designed Break Blows around the close-up in the first place if there was going to be any worries about censoring it with certain characters.

Also it's such a mess that this whole Break Blow debacle is being linked to RYONA... DOA always finds itself in sexual situations at the worst times, huh?

Ok, I'll be frank:
Some you guys are creeping me right the hell out. Wanting to have the BB animations back for NiCO, Honoka and Marie to be equal or because we already have worse moves in the game, okay.
Outright saying "Fuck Lolicons" or "I practically get off on wanting to punch Honoka in the face"... is just honestly pathetic as hell.
For goodness sake, calm yourselves down, you are honestly being a bit too on the nose with your fetish.

Japanese and American (I'm sorry but most times I read something like that is from American people) fans are the two sides of the coin. The first ones love these characters ... too much and the second ones hate these characters ... too much.

And everytime I read these characters they are "18" something dies inside me because is like that people never looked to real women like:

And she's 19.

Everytime I read a insinuation like that I can't help myself and I just find traits of misogyny

From Famitsu interview:

https://www.famitsu.com/news/201903/15173303.html

A lot Japanese players (most of them from Xtreme series) complained about looking at "the cute girls" being punched in close up and shouting.

So you know, if you want it back, just keep pressing up Shimbori and Team Ninja.

Shimbori isn't going to cave in lol. They even took out overkilling after rounds since everything is a pause close up, not that it matters for this of course since I never do it, but stuff like this makes you wonder if they are taking feedback to the most sensitive of groups. TN currently has been all sunshine and full of happiness lately. Maybe even a little too happy with how the game currently is with patching it up.

If anything, pressing Shimbori or TN for it might make you seem like the bad guy and will be raided by the massive crowd of the typical "Did you hear that? he wants the ridiculous violence back against Marie Rose and Honoka! they are pure and kawaii! you are not even human fuck."

I don't got the whole overkilling thing. I used to get hate mail all the time for "overkilling" when all I'm doing is just finishing my juggle. Its muscle memory at that point.

Yeah never bothers me. In fact for characters like Leon in Temple of Dragon stage back in 5, if all the breakables are broken in a certain floor and the floor is about to crack and the round is over, I immediately do the ground throw to go to the next level and we immediately start there. I remember someone took it serious and I explained it to him but he didn't believe lol.

Never knew it was that big of a deal, but hey, it is what it is.

Sorry to derail this but what are the odds of rachel/momiji getting in DOA6? I've been maining Diego since he feels pretty similar to Rachel's style.

To add to the ongoing conversation, I don't like how split the community is on these things. Imo it should be equal in all areas of the game. Be it violence or sexiness. If DOA is gunna be the "sexy" fighter I want all the characters to be sexy and have scantily clad costumes.

Closest thing we had to a sexy male costume were Ein's.

i agree. but you cannot and will not please everybody. clashes won't happen if there's only one culture in the room. putting more inside this room means they will be fighting over full-time attention and care since video game players are inherently children.

"destined to clash forever" is slightly misleading though. the series never indulged in baby violence like this until recently. in the itagaki era it's all about ridiculous, but artistic, maneuvers that involve the environment. then it turned into boring anime finishers in 5. then its retarded little brother who's all about strawberry juice, flaccid punches and gratuitous ass to face came along.

basically, nothing would've happened if they didn't feel obliged to throw that bone at e3. i hope they've learned their lesson.

now the worst part is having to deal with a second "reeeee censor" group joining the orchestra with the fanservice screechers. what an absolute zoo this series is.

He needs to stop trying to appeal to everyone, and instead focus on making a good game.

He hasn't yet learned he needs to do the former, and because of that lack of focus he doesn't know how to do the latter.
Shimbori does good work when he is single-minded on a task. But he's doing far too much, and KT has him worrying about too many things as both director and producer, while handling a bunch of projects unrelated to DOA as well. On a personal level, I worry for him.

As a fan of the franchise, though, I wish he would stop listening to the lowest common denominator, stop worrying about selling X amount of units, and remember what it means to make a good fucking game. That's how you get on top of the competition.

literally this^ i really cant stand the whole paused bs after winning... though ill admit there's some ppl who absolutely deserve the annoying overkill nonsense : )

anyways... it's been said but ill say it again, there's no point in a violence on/off button if there's still censors in the On mode. If marie, nico, and honoka can have their necks broken in a million places and wear skimpy clothing, then they can take a close up punch in the face with some badly animated blood flying out... next

So... It’s OK to sexualize and put these little girls, who all look like they’re between the ages 10-14, in sexy and revealing clothes (or lack there of); but a close-up of them being punched in the face, IN A FIGHTING GAME, is an issue? OK.

Can we seriously stop this shit already? Can.. can this shit just die? Do I have to start giving you PORN ACTRESSES that look as young as Marie and NiCO so this can just die off a goddamned cliff? Or the plenty of cosplayers who look almost perfectly like Marie and NiCO and they are clearly above 18? Or you actually venturing outside of your goddamned house and comfort spot?

I mean you can even read the reason and figure out that the reason isn't "Oh my these loli's getting hurt" nonsense. Just ARGH, I'm really, REALLY getting tired of that shit because even with all of my issues, I have seen alot of women who are of the same age and has similar proportions and even babyfaces like them. This just needs to die in a fire before I lose my shit.

There's a difference between understanding there could be some backlash but not knowing how huge it can be. It's actually pretty damn understandable since you would never realize how some people will react to something negative but never notice JUST how much people don't like thing here.

And secondly, CAN WE STOP WITH THIS?! OMG, Why do people act like Dead or Alive corners the market on Ryona? I'm getting so tired of this because it really shows how little people even understand or bother to even see it. Dead or Alive does not corner Ryona in the slightest, EVERY. SINGLE. FIGHTING. GAME. HAS. POTENTIAL. OF. RYONA!
Every goddamned one is basically a Ryona shitstorm but no, it's fucking BREAK BLOWS that that somehow has ties to Ryona, get out of here with that man. You do realize that the Free Cam and Photo Mode has ties to Ryona too right? Or Bayman's grapples or when the characters crawl away after they are beaten or Bass and Tina's wrestling moves, etc.
Sigh, There's only so much of this I can take...

Japanese and American (I'm sorry but most times I read something like that is from American people) fans are the two sides of the coin. The first ones love these characters ... too much and the second ones hate these characters ... too much.

And that fits to what @DestructionBomb is talking about. The WAY people are going about it can very easily be beyond cringe and just makes everyone look like misogynists... which is the VERY last thing people want to have plastered onto DOA.

He needs to stop trying to appeal to everyone, and instead focus on making a good game.

He hasn't yet learned he needs to do the former, and because of that lack of focus he doesn't know how to do the latter.

I honestly do a combination of himself and KT on this one. Shimbori can definitely improve... but at the same time the dude is not a PR guy... and Koei Tecmo just KEEPS making him the PR guy just like Hayashi and I honestly believe he's not a PR guy either. They are people who dedicate themselves to doing what they can best... but their best simply does not work because they don't know what the hell they are doing.

It's not helping as I feel KT is running the guy ragged and he's worrying about too much shit, shit he honestly shouldn't be worrying about.
It honestly reminds me how the NA Localizer for Fate Grand Order for NA is pretty much under the same eye from the Japanese version and has to do everything PR wise despite him just being a localizer, not PR and thus he gets judged for things that shouldn't be what he signed up for.

It just shows just how fucked KT is in this side of the coin but Shimbori seriously needs to put his foot down on WHO he's catering to.
Even Hayashi knew what he was catering to, plain and simple, Shimbori can even choose a mix but he shouldn't try and please both at once, it never works out.

dead or alive as a fighting game has never had cuts, bruises or blood during gameplay until 6, just saying. neither did VF, tekken, SC (game where every character fights with a sharp/bludgeoning weapon), and the majority of 2D fighters.

why nobody said anything about the regular animations but these are too much, i can only guess. maybe the former broke the disbelief suspension to the point nobody sees it as violent, maybe the former is core to a character's fighting style and personality instead of being gratuitous and, as some demonstrated, existing only to serve as some kind of autistic revenge porn?

regardless, injuries and blood are rarely ever depicted in fighting games, and definitely not in dead or alive for a whopping two decades. "durr u shuld expect that in a fighting gaem xd" is a non-argument and only outs yourself as a new gen baby.

Everytime I read a insinuation like that I can't help myself and I just find traits of misogyny
it's more like people are indoctrinated by conventions and unwritten rules in hack design and writing (where traits A, B, C, ... all have to go together to "complete a package"), or maybe it's just another in a long line of excuses they use to dismiss an appearance they personally dislike. hilariously, these are sometimes the same people who will proceed to say "itagaki's kasumi (actually underaged) is okay because it looks 20". "but officer it looks [sufficiently high integer]" are famous last words of jail-goers, so watch yourselves.

it's time to take their rotting brains off those anime and card games and realize real life biology doesn't give two fucks about connecting age and physique. menat's voice actor was 4'8 at 26.

The bottom line is that there was already a solution: turn the feature off. Shimbori and/or Team Ninja went and made the situation dumber. Weirdos shrieking that their waifus got punched in the face? Tell them to turn it off. Or git gud and don't get hit with a break blow. lol

Especially don't specifically disable it for the 3 characters overall seen to be dodgy for a few reasons.

But, Shimbori seemed to acknowledge that you could just turn it off in the interview, so they might revert it in a patch. Hell, they can even add a "protect mai jailbait waifu" option in the violence setting if it's really that serious. It shouldn't be. But, okay.

I hate when they only think of their Japanese audience when the game sold better in the west, I don't mean this specifically but in general.

i don't see the need to create a category you could fit the entire series into tbhfamily

oh and while it's easy to think it's a japanese thing from the other side of the fence, developers universally only care about their own region. secondary audiences being catered to is a nice bonus (when it doesn't result in horrible clashes of personal ideals), but not something they're unconditionally entitled to.
