I get that you can't make Canon Ryu in the selectable roster, so no matter what, his playable incarnation is going to have to be holding back. A lot. But, it would make sense that he would hold back his abilities to roughly the level of his competition, around the top of that block. So in gameplay, you'd expect him in a playable form to be comparable, if not slightly better, than the next best character in the game (or at least the next best ninja).

But instead you get current Ryu. So, whatever.

I disagree Hitomi being top tier, or even top 10. Solid, yes, but in no way top tier material.

The only she really shines in is post-CB juggles (if she can even land one), wall damage (most stages are huge squares - you'd almost never find yourself around walls) and perhaps whiff punishment. She has an okay stun-launch game but slow launchers ruin her considering that her stuns don't last for a good amount of frames.

Hitomi's neutral game is shit. +1 2P and safe true mid 3H+K is the only good tool to throw out in neutral. Punch parry is a mere reset and hella risky given the risk/reward being extremely one-sided, her stuns are kinda shit given her slow launchers, excessive high/low strings makes her easily crushed by true mids, her tick throw game is not even in her favor considering her shit CH stuns and 6T once again being a reset. +10, but still a reset. A stun would have been a whole lot better. Hell, even her sitdown doesn't guarantee anything worthwhile except 66K. Even her delayable strings are becoming more shit now considering any character can 2P if she tries to use her 2H+K string variant and even shittier guard breaks which she has to charge.

Momiji is most definitely top tier, and a much better character than Hitomi will ever be.

Pfft, canon. Everyone knows in canon that Lei Fang has the ability to derail trains with her mind in order to create perfectly constructed scenarios with sexual tension. Reality control!

Ryu kinda killed the creators of modern reality so... I'm gonna say Leifang is still Ryu's bitch, along with everyone else in the roster. ;)

I know canon, schmanon. I mean in "canon" Hitomi's a ditzy kawaii girl as opposed to a Karate-Dad beating, Death-fisting badass.

Aw, crap. -_-.

Pfft, Lei Fang is the Scarlet Witch, and can not only recreate reality... she can straight up punch parry it too, to the point where no one can actually say her name correctly. This makes her canonically top tier, of course.

I also give huge canonical tier powers to people who, say, own giant boats. Giant boats are good.

But, yeah, if you compared a canon tier listing to DOA's tier listing, lots would go awry. Still, it's not like the comics and theoretically you could just boost everyone's power levels because most might as well be in "well, we never exactly said or anything..."

On topic; the EH adjustments are not exactly encouraging, from where I sit. Which is not to vilify the project or their methods, but to say most people do not know what is up.

I pronounce her name wrong even though I can speak Chinese fluently. It's magic.

As much as I like to shit on EH, at least it gives a general idea of what people think. I don't think our tier list is ever gonna be finished, 'cause almost no one is giving their opinions on matchups.
All true. But, yeah, Lei Fang's voice is resistant to all kinds of human speech due to her punch parry. And, yeah, it gives a good community barometer even if obviously I have points of clear disagreement. (I'm still trying to figure out where I can best help in light of my natural bias)

Everyone has natural bias. I see it immensely in basically every player in this community who has ever opened their mouth even once. I see it in casual players, I see it in competitive players, I see it in top-level players, and I even see it in myself. But, that shouldn't keep the community in perpetual silence. Share what you can, and just be ready to receive some backlash. Because remember, the backlash you receive is probably every bit as biased as the perspective you produced, and only through discussion can such biases ever be objectively tackled (even if never fully extinguished).

Yes, I am a proponent of dialectics.

I'm intrigued to hear what you regard as a neutral game. If you say that Hitomi only has a 2P and 3H+K, then I must know what you deem a neutral game.
When neither character is in frame disadvantage or advantage, no character in any sort of stun state (critical, hit, guard break), both characters grounded, etc.

I don't care about hostile posts. It's the internet, nothing can stop them from doing so.

Hahaha, fair. I'm just really thinking about where to put in input that isn't basically along the lines of "no, seriously, get rid of most of those 3-7's, that's just not right". HLP is so often "who has the better option select sequences in stun and can make decent wake up reads?" and where there are relatively even spacing tools (which is usually the case, or at the least both have a reasonable way in). To distinguish properly between characters, I'd have to go to hypothetical rounds beyond certain moments.

For Helena, the only 4-6 I have solidly against her is Gen. I will vehemently argue against all of her alleged disadvantages that include Akira (no, if anything she's favored), Ayane (I feel really qualified to say no here), Rachel (if anything she's favored), Rig (she's in good shape here), and Sarah (actually a pretty good match up for her). I don't have a serious, considered 6-4, but might tip my hat at Alpha, Ein, Leon, and Eliot. There are other match ups where I have her favorably listed, but I don't want to blow that up into a 6-4. But her initial numbers are deceptively good; in theory, she has issues with Gen, Christie, Jann, and the others, but the only one where her options end up weaker is probably Gen.

Leifang doesn't have a bad match up to me. Not one. Not to Ayane, and definitely not to Sarah. Her favorables, however, are naer universal and relatively mild. Gen is the hardest match up for her, but probably his most even match up; I'd call it a 5-5. If fishing for favorables, I'd consider Eliot, Ein, Leon (seeing a pattern?), maybe Sarah (yes, really).
