IPL Helena Breakdown

It's not funny that she got nerfed but that everyone is freaking out SO hard about it lmao
They have removed huge parts of what made her good. She was a lousy character right up until DOA4 when they finally gave her the tools to be good. They then proceeded to strip her of all her best assets and leave her a shell of her former self. It's depressing to main a character for over 10 years, dealing with them being bad and finally being given the tools you need to win then having it all taken away again.

This frustration is only made worse when you see characters who were better than Helena in DOA4 getting slight nerfs and great new tools to work with whilst you get shit removed and replaced with absolutely nothing.

The reason we vocalise it is because we want TN to see these threads and correct her before release seeing as the don't want to rebalancing post launch.

I just don't know anymore. I'm willing to change my main but it's pretty shitty to know beforehand I won't be able to achieve shit with Helena because TN made her "Very strong" in their minds.

I remember when my character got nerfed badly in 4.1 and I didn't give a shit 'cause I liked the character enough in ways most couldn't understand...

Good times.

Christie got a small nerf, but she still played like Christie and was still a good character.

Christie was "ok" at best. Required mass amounts of guessing, with low throw damage, low hold damage, and low combo damage lmao.

It's DOA4 buddy everything required a massive amount of guessing, lol. She had some of the best wall damage in the game, a 9 frame jab, 11 frame mid, bt turn throw, etc. . .

I'm just suprised they would make all of her 66P palms(all versions) unsafe. That makes no sense at all. Not sure If I can really ask this but does she have a back turned 4P+K move still? If that still is a juggle reset at least her bt damage and mixup is bit better then 4.

It would be nice to know what team ninja has in mind for her. When they were drawing her up on the table : How will she win? How will she compete? What makes her effective? What does she need to go for?

When I heard Ryu lost his mid crush off of 3P+K, had a feeling Helena would lose P+K. At least they gave him new tools though. I can't see very many of them being effective in the long run however. It looks like they are singling out the old top tier. Wonder what they will do with Gen.

No. No character NEEDS tools to win. They help, sure, but if you're a good enough player, you can make almost any character in the game work.

I think players are going to have to use steady mix-ups and throws for Helena to win, now. More throws than ever, really. If most of her attacks are mid punches, you'll know what you're opponent will be countering most. That's what I see, anyways.

Everything will be ok. TN has been doing a great job addressing concerns. It's quite clear that your guy's precious Helena needs attention. :( Still gonna getcho asses beat by Jann Lee anyway. :)

I think it's more a question of will they have the time? Game's only a month away, and they still have to work on putting the finishing touches before then. I'll be surprised if they DO manage to make her better.

The game may be a month away, but they only actually have another week or two to work on it before they go gold. Unless they go gold, then start working on a patch to get out for release day, which is unlikely.

Like you said, I'll be surprised if they fix Helena at this point. They may make a few changes to her to buff her up a bit, but this late in development, I doubt that they'd do enough to really save her without a patch.

It's all relative. So far the only character worse than their DOA4 iteration is Helena, everyone else is massivley buffed and then you have to add the VF5 characters into the mix. Could easily be the biggest discrepency between top and bottom tier in series history.

Timeout, Ayane isn't buffed anywhere near enough to where it'd be considered massive. Microscopic at most, unless they safened up all her attacks. Her ridiculous damage is gone, and even after hitting CB, it's not easy for her to get damage by any means, last I saw her. Though her movement is better. You're definitely not alone.

Unless of course the Ayane players have been complete ass.

Ayane hasn't really changed much, slightly less damage, some new combo strings and movement abilities that's about it. She still hits pretty hard though, that is obviously offset by the fact she is still incredibly unsafe.

Her b p still crushes, her bt throw gets her guaranteed options, her back f+k gives her limbo stun, she has more options from BT, and a few other nuances. Don't know how safe she'll be in the final build.

Ayane players have been complete ass though and/or not much has been said about her, but at least she's being designed with DOA5 in mind.
