Hold left or right when you hit whatever button to select it.

Then... play other people. Preferably folks from this site that know what they're doing. Simple solution if you think you're good with Leon and want a challenge.
Wouldn't that be a worse idea? If he's getting frustrated by "spammy" plauers, would playing against competitive folk who've most likely mastered more optimal stuff be even more frustrating?

@d3v: The damage holds gave wasn't the only factor in what made DOA4 less appealing as a competitive fighter. It was the fact that come 4.1, unholdable stuns were virtually non existent, you could recover using holds in any situation, including wall slams, and guard breaks gave no frame advantage at all on block. Add to this universal offensive holds across the board, and almost everyone played the same, with few characters having marginal advantages over others, such as the ninjas, Gen Fu, and Helena in particular.

EDIT: Well, Argentus does think he's good. I don't see why that would be such a bad idea.

Ugh. Im about ready to be done with doa. I go online and now its just people mashing and trying to do rushdown. (As opposed to people being terrified of counters in previous games so they rarely ever just rushed in).

I really think Mila suits you better Argentus. Based on what I've seen you post you've been frustrated w/ faster characters dishing out a ton of moves during the match and not letting you get up. The problem is you've got to play more defensively with him and wait for that small window to attack (unless you can read your opponent really well and then it just comes down to counters). That's why I could never play a slower character I just feel like I'm blocking as best as I can, hoping that I can survive.

Mila on the other hand is fast and can always keep her opponent guessing (which is frustrating as hell btw. lol)

I find playing good players the best possible way of playing online even if you're not that good and it's a good way of realising what is you're doing wrong.

I've recently been playing people such as Blackberry, Galen,Crazy Steady and even Sly Bass losing to them is a good way of learning how to play online and players in general. I just gotta work on what I'm doing wrong and eventually I'll be able to be as good as them I've even noticed minor improvement in my characters.

Playing scrubs on ranked that just spam the same the same pushback moves or w/e is a terrible way to play online and just makes you not want to play other people.

Play somebody who NOBODY knows how to play against (i.e. Eliot, Zack, Brad Wong, Helena and Momiji) Even noobish tactics will work on almost anyone.

And when was spam ever a bad thing?

Also, you do realize that strong countets is one of the things that made DOA4 be considered one of the worse fighting games ever made right? It made no sense how someone who got a hit in were punished with more damage of a counter than what they dealt.

It was a weird balance. Yes the damage itself was disproportionately high, but on the other hand, it made attackers stop being so mindless and reckless because just rushing in could could get them killed near instantly.

On the other hand, Leon. In 4 it only took him 3 counters to win...now it takes 4.

Sides, its kinda.stupid to.complain that someone who got a hit in cam take more damage, when a jab can result in half health Equally stupid. At least the strong counters were a good balance to that.

Hey you wanna talk about mindless mashing try playing Persona 4 Arena (at least that's how I'm playing it). I just got the game used b/c it was cheap and I haven't played an anime fighter in a while. Holy shit there's so much color, light beams, and just me jumping around all over the place mashing buttons left and right. lol

It makes you appreciate what we originally thought "spamming" was.

Yeah, Mila was my main and is now my alt.
Y issue is for some stupid reason, I keep trying to actually use her new feints and combos, which is a terrible idea lol.

Also, really bad habit for me, but since I usually only play one character, and leon and Mila are similar, I keep finding myself trying to do their moves with the wrong character lol.

Leon does actually suit me better, but Mila, if I use her in the same way as leon, is much easier to win with.

Doesn't help that P4A has an "auto-combo" feature where you just mash X/Square over and over lol

That's 'cause you don't understand how the game is played, though. DialACombos do like 2.5k. Real combos do 4-8k. If you try to do anything outside of blocking and reversals when you're at frame disadvantage, you lose 60% of your health. And if you do that reversal and it gets read, you lose 80% of your health. Plus, everyone is Rachel. Someone touches you? You better be good at reacting or guess, 'cause you're gonna be dead in two wrong guesses. You can't mash at all in real play, 'cause you're dead in two confirms.

...Unless you're playing against Yukiko, who does no damage no matter what. :v

I have to post this somewhere, I just met the weirdest fucking person in an EU lobby. They started talking about zen and enlightenment and just kept going on and on about it so I just said "are you high or what" and they started up with

"None of the two of us will play with such arrogance of yours. Please abandon this place at once. Peace not war nor violence, or perhaps you saw so much of that Phala."

So to that stupid 'peace not war nor violence' shit I said "this is a fighting game" and they start up again with

"So? and then you think to be rude behind a display makes you cool? Between the two of us the one ridiculous it is just your cheap sold out mentality. And I return to tell you, leave this peaceful place, your presumpt balance it is just the mask you are wearing right now :) So sad..."

Then they left. It was so strange I can't believe it actually happened.

You see, that is why I refuse to go into lobbies unless it belongs to someone from this site. If the lobby belonged to me such a moronic asswipe would be gone within seconds.

I can't tolerate much these days, especially idiots. Sorry, couldn't help but give a reply.
