Totally didn't expect to see this pop up again, this was my entry in the photoshop competition years ago!

For me, Leon's story was simple but always fits into the DOA world because it is the generic, cliche mouring story - they managed to differentiate him from Bayman a lot as he appeared in more games and his integration into 5 gave him a bit of a different game plan for fights than Bayman. Desert Falcon and Arm Grenade never get old, and his themes were badass, and he's just fun to play - obviously it doesn't translate to everyone but I just enjoyed the sort of brutality from his moves. He's been my main since I started playing the series with 2U, and it just doesn't feel the same without him or Gen or Ein.

Thank you PJudge, you are truly a blessing to provide Leon with memes and glory. If Leon does somehow return at some point, hopefully you can make more, just like that fantastic one right there.

Will admit, but I completely forgot about the Vita version DOA5+. I was one of the firm believers that this was just a waste when it came to DOA titles being developed. I'm sure people probably enjoyed it, but you have to admit that the game was just not suited for a portable considering how fast paced DOA is in general (I mean it's a fighting game). On top that Vita handheld physical controls just wasn't on par to that of an arcade stick or even general pads. That first-person view battle mode was just there, forgotten over time.

DOAD on the other hand, was completely new and isn't really a port to the general DOA titles since it was a standalone title. It's why I feel DOAD was a lot more tolerable to bring out a sort of fresh new experience despite being introduced to a portable platform. Personally, I never played DOAD on a handheld but rather on an emulator to finally give it a go for the first time, most of my thoughts have been pretty positive to say the least and then someone brought it over at a tournament for the handheld. Honestly my genuine pet peeve with DOAD was basically just that. On a handheld. Same with DOA5+. And I can't for the life of me get that same experience with a fighting game when it was always preferably best played on console/PC. I truly believe that DOAD would of had a lot more recognition if it was on a console/PC on day one (in opinion), least towards a more broader audience when it came to anything platform based. Course inb4 someone says "well it was a fun game on a handheld". I can see why, but let's be totally real on the subject that the priority on most handhelds at the time didn't exactly get most power boosted to get a true definitive experience and major support.

Back on DOA5+ for the Vita, not going to throw it fully under the bus but there might of been a few pretty good positive portions to it. For starters, DOA5+ was "technically" the first one to introduce combo challenges before DOA5U I think:

Albeit that combo challenges was mostly used as an example to see how DOA combos can be generalized or give you a hint on what to come up with, but combo challenges via DOA5+ was mostly mixed simply because of being performed on a portable, a fault check. At first I wanted to see if it was true from what all the fuss is about and rage regarding the challenges since I was like "Come now, these commands look incredibly easy", but when you actually have it in your hands it's like "Oh shit now I see. The command challenge itself is actually easy, but getting them to actually come out is an entirely different story due to Vita buttons". (mostly moderate-hard ones) But again, could also apply in the vice-versa. It just seems like more people were in that same boat and I just happened to be in it experiencing the same thing and sympathize.

A reminder that I also completed every combo challenge on DOA5+ for the vita, but doing a Raijin or Akira's GBoD on a Vita was one of the most bonkers things I had to experience, let alone a knee input because of the Vita's physical design. I'm sure for some people they adapted to it's physical layout but hey, maybe I was just super taxed trying to perform anything out of it who knows, but by god it was one of the weirdest things I've experienced when it came to getting the best out of the game, damn thing felt like I was trying to do an input precise challenge on a small alien hardware with tiny clicks than a combo challenge. Bright side for me is that I never even really owned a Vita. I merely got a free copy of DOA5+ from Team NINJA and just borrowed a Vita from my cousin to try it in his house on the same day. Tried it, did all the challenges, played online on it for a bit with my hilarious bad input commands and still somehow end up winning ironically. Never touched it since then.

But yeah, I thought the introduction to combo challenges was a nice start for something new within DOA5+ up until DOA5U. I'll have to give a +1 on that one.

Outside of PKMN and Fire Emblem I hate hand-held gaming. Phone games... all of it. Neo Geo was the bad boy shit when I was a kid, but I could never afford a new one at the time let alone find one.

DOA5+ and DOAD respectively sucked ass. Especially DOAD. I have absolutely no idea why anyone could tell me they enjoyed that game.

Big roster would have been hype for a console game though.

Don't blame you, though more towards mobile gaming than standard platform handhelds on my end. Least handhelds is a literal traditional platform to play games on, and there are games that I did enjoy on handhelds before. Fighting games on the other hand just simply doesn't fit well on handhelds imo and I feel like DOA got the backburner for that one.

It's also likely the fact that I was never really a heavy handheld player since I never owned one realistically, and if I did try one it certainly wouldn't be a fighting game. I'm sure the enthusiast would probably be like "you never really owned one so you wouldn't really know how it is", which is a maybe, but I have tried them before and emulated+played some of the games before, just couldn't exactly develop an interest. I'm far too used to gaming with a TV/Monitor.

I dislike mobile gaming, though I do appreciate gaming handheld platforms for what they did.

I tried DOAD and I genuinely enjoyed it, but understandable. My only issue was that it was literally on a handheld.

Yeah dimensions was great imo, it's the game that got me into the series. People always wanna try to ignore the chronicles and such but whether you like it or not, that's the narrative the story is using xD I like how dimensions cleanly made sense of all the confusing cutscenes and made the fights have more conclusion compared to DOA2 and 4 where the cutscenes and endings made no sense unless you knew what happened before what

The only thing I hated is how Ryu was used as a basic way to make it seem like the fights could be won, like he shouldn't have helped Kasumi or Hayate or Ayane since those were their battles to end. Even against alpha 152 I didn't like how he came off as he could beat alpha but just let Kasumi do it, and in 6 with how he beat all those Phase 4s that surrounded Kasumi, she could have done that herself. But again since he has no real plot relevance other than to say that Ryu is in DOA, they always have to include him in and it gets old

The game was good but would of developed a more broader interest and better notable output if it wasn't on a handheld. Practically the only thing that held that game back.

Also DOAD coming out good probably made it happen due to Nintendo's support and budget for co-developing it in the first place, they'd have to mess up pretty bad or rely on potatoes to let that happen.

Yep I remember this. Was the tournament that Mochi-A from Japan was in. And unfortunately, there was barely any DOAD tournaments after this because of one reason (which Big E even said at one point). It was on a handheld. However it was possible to do side tournaments with emulations currently. You just couldn't stream it, but what would be the point if you can't stream it? but if you did, Nintendo would be up on that event's ass for people using emulations in the first place since it's against their policy, and severely doubt people would do DOAD tournaments again on a pre-gen handheld.

Great tournament, but was severely short-lived. Not being a dropper for party vibes, but realistic evidence was at play. DOAD should of been on a console platform, hell could of been on a Nintendo console platform.

I will say that it might be possible if DOAD was ported to the Switch at this time.
