1.20 Requires PS4 Players to Pay Tickets Each Time a Hair Color Change Is Done

UPDATE 3/6/2020: Team NINJA tweeted an official apology to the fighters and stated that they were working on a better alternative to distribute hair colors. So players are encouraged to not purchase anymore colors until the issue has been rectified. The big hope is that players are able to use their perpetual pile of in-game currency to purchase & swap hair colors.

UPDATE 3/1/2020: While we wait for an official response from Koei Tecmo the mainstream press has started dismantling the "bizarre" business practices of the company. YouTuber, YongYea and Kotaku have also recently joined the fight against Koei Tecmo for their poor treatment to dedicated players.

UPDATE 2/25/2020: We here at Free Step Dodge have received word from a Team NINJA representative that the present functionality of requiring the player to purchase a hair color even if previously purchased is by design. At this time, if you would like to share your feedback to Team NINJA and KOEI TECMO, you have a few options available to you. It would be great if feedback was given by everyone and in any form of content about this situation if capable. Forms of content include but are not limited to Articles, Video, Images, Posts, or Streams. Always tag the company and game's official accounts and use big text in each of the posting. Also here are the Customer Support links as well:

NA Customer support https://koeitecmoamerica.com/support
EU Costumer Support https://koeitecmo.info/inquiry/kte
ASIA Customer Support http://www.gamecity.com.tw/html/support/index.html

For those planning on doing this, sooner is always better than later.

UPDATE 2/24/2020: The PlayStation 4 version of the game currently forces players to repurchase any previously purchased colors, and it requires you to spend Player Points to set the hair color to the character's original hair color. Team NINJA has not yet responded officially to questions. Please do not purchase alternate colors at the moment as we await confirmation from Team NINJA that this is designed functionality. This article will be updated as further news comes in.

A few weeks ago Team NINJA supplied us with their biggest free update for Dead or Alive 6 yet, and now that 1.20 has released we can see that Team NINJA is using this update to focus on cosmetics and new collaborative DLCs from the Atelier Ryza & Gust franchises plus hair color changing functionality exclusively to PS4. 1.20 which released the 25th of February. Judging by one of Team NINJA's recent Tweets, there will be some bug fixes, but real game changes are being reserved for another month. Like always this story will evolve over time with more information and news!

The added hair colors initially ignited some hype from the DOA community, but they are not releasing without an intense controversy that we haven't seen in the Dead or Alive community for years. If you jump through a few hoops to mod hair color changes on PC you can comfortably change your character's hair color to any hue imaginable. From Team NINJA, this feature is set to launch exclusively to PS4 for the exchange of 'Premium Tickets.' We reached out to Team NINJA for confirmation on exclusivity to this feature and they've responded to reinstate that hair color swapping will not be coming to the XBOX ONE or Steam platforms.

With all of this being said, it shouldn't come off as too much of a surprise as they introduced hair color changes with Dead or Alive 5 and Lisa's silver hair is also currently available in Dead or Alive 6. Pricing has been revealed to be one (1) Premium Ticket for each color and due to the fact you must reset the hair color, it creates a huge monetized obstacle for all of DOAs dedicated players.

The Gust & Ryza collaborative outfits look classy & tasteful compared to the consistent bikinis, and new titles have been added in an event that is similar to DOA6s Dumbbell Collaboration last year. While this is not the update gameplay purists are looking for, you can expect more big changes around the release of the Venus Vacation character next month.

Vitriol won’t get people to stop buying DLC, they’ll think those complaining against overpriced low quality content are haters.
No they won't. They all know full well what the issue with DoA6's DLC and content focus is. The simple fact is that a large portion of them don't care, because the content being provided is the content they want from the game.

Many of them don't understand. I've seen people say that the whales are keeping the game alive. They treat DoA 6 like a F2P game. They are OK with overpriced cosmetic DLC because its optional, without realizing that it’s a disincentive for developers to improve other areas of the game. They don’t understand that someone grabbing every piece of available DCL for hundreds of dollars means that the devs can piss off tens of players without losing revenue. The don’t understand that someone who is used to playing other fighting games is going to be turned away by the season passes being literally seasonal.

And they think if they don’t support the game there won’t be another fighting game in the franchise for a long time.

EDIT:
I've also fallen for the ''it's optional bs" recently. When I gave feedback on the hair color change system I asked for permanent colors and for the feature to be available for all platforms when I should had said: make a color palette available for 5 dollars.

Exactly - they are the root cause. If several years of calm, careful, considerate explanation hasn't woken them up to the damage they're doing to the fighting game franchise, (rather than the dress up dolly franchise they seem to want to support,) then does it hurt to try vitriol?

If you think the situation can't get any worse then you can try whatever you want. I feel people won’t be receptive to memes that look like propaganda material. At least the ones with vampires, credit cards and EA logos are easy on the eye.

Real talk, if this hair color implementation never existed I think DOA6 would of not been this bad which is pretty hilarious. Think about it.

1) If Hair Color implementation wasn't added, there wouldn't be an actual uproar to get shit to actually change. The flock to Tamaki wouldn't be as scapegoated and the DLC would still be typical as the whales continue to feed off it's materials.

2) If Hair Color was added the side effect to it was that they charge you for it, which actually gets the people who sleep buys the content to actually wake up and stay woke. In doing so, the whales would be reluctant to buy it also wounding DOA6 in the process as they lost their money scheme. But at the same time, It's also the perfect tactic and time portion to release the character as KT will try to enforce you to forget about the recent issue using Tamaki's release as a scapegoat, it's a great bait as people would still end up buying the character while in contradiction to themselves believing they wouldn't give any more money to DOA but end up doing so lol, genius.

"Oh you don't like the hair color prices? I see, but watch you still buy Tamaki though so eh, we good".

3) The last route is the sanity route, which is adding the hair color for the price of zero dollars/changed to zero dollars, but yet there is zero improvements to DOA6's stability and overall image for it's addition while KT is not making any profits out of it. Essentially being nothing while falsely hyping up a community.

In short, no one is winning. This is moments of development hell and a constant loop hole of a series that ended up this way due to how they want to market the game while using "Fighting Game" as a shell to make itself look cool, despite the gameplay is actually cool but that's a TN side effect considering how they are with Ninja Gaiden and the newly Nioh. KT's a scrubby company lol, no wonder people don't take this series serious for both ignorant reasons as well as genuine reasons lol.

There's a saying that there's no such thing as bad press which I don't fully agree with. However, I'm seeing so many articles and youtube videos with 100K+ views. I'm just wondering if that might spur people to download the game and try it out haha.

It's a double edge sword. People will download it to genuinely try it out while chuckling from it's niche+cliche, but people will also download it to use it for memes and humor.

Sure, maybe the news would gather even more players, but not the way it's intended. You'd bound to have more people to use it for humor, the companies are to blame for that.

The official Twitter started RTing some cosplays but still, not a peep. They will probably stay that way until Tamaki's release, hoping that people just forget about it. :(

Don't want to be the guy that says "I told you so" but here we are. Tamaki is pretty much a scapegoat really, and people will still end up buying the character which is still giving KT your wallet. Despite how people want to genuinely buy the character, it's still a cover up like Rikuto mentioned.

For starters, even if KT decides to somehow make the hair colors free from some update, it's the fact that they even considered charging it in the first place or just plain did it. Some people will forgive (which you'd be silly to do so), but some people will not forget.

A good portion of y'all been buying DOA 5 content for this game since launch, but a dollar to rent a hair color for your DOA 5 outfit is too much? This is why nobody has ever respected the DOA community and never will. :D

This issue isn't about getting respect from people not in the DOA community. If anything we clearly have been supported by many if you bothered to read more than a blurb or two or watched more than the Angry Joe video.

What Lopedo am I going to get today is the question I ask myself when I see a recent message. Sometimes it's a guy giving positive energy interviews, sometimes it's a guy that blatantly tells me to fuck off when I ask a question, sometimes it's a guy that gets put into time out on Rikuto's stream.

I don't know what respect means to you, but you clearly have never had any for yourself or many around you.

Not to mention people have been bitching about the previously released outfits. Just not to this magnitude because at least they get to keep it.

At the end of the day everyone loves lopedo. We know how you are, but come on there is a balance in supporting Team NINJA and opposing the hire ups of KT.
