It definitely used to be the anime fighter of 3D fighting games

I'd say it's not anymore but we do have like 150 anime outfits in it. And they stole a character from Love Live.

I was going to say, how in the world are they going to incorporate Mu-12's silly battle mode thing. But instead, they chose an outfit that's pre-entry to the whole battle mode thingiemabubber. It's basically this:

Mu-12_(Story_Mode_Artwork,_Normal).png

Curious question. Has DOA become an anime fighter now? details on game genres have this game listed as "Anime Fighter" (IGN, Gamespot, and Steam for example). I suppose stuff like this might be one of the reasons I guess. If you must know, it was "never" listed as anime fighter. Ever.

I actually like the fact that they went with the pre-battle suit choice, I like it alot more than the typical Marakumo style she otherwise is in.

I like it - it looks cool.

Y'all are hard to please.

I need them to show me Helena already

This. I feel as if most of the people really wanted them to make sense for the characters when it was supposed to be more for cosplay(less people complained how Ayane doesn't work as Yuri in the small KOF pack)

Still anime, basically any Japanese developed fighter has anime tropes in it, DOA isn't the only one...

Once again, DOA was not considered an Anime Fighter listed as a genre on 3D fighters. Namco is a JPN company that created Tekken but they were not considered as an anime fighter by genre specific labels. The only reasonable explanation is the one Chapstick provided, but the actual change of this is entirely new that was never actually set in stone from awhile ago. Anime isn't exactly vague by definition here.

No one here is really incorrect honestly. That option just has a hole in there for complexities, but either way it doesn't really matter lol.

What is there to apologize for? It's a healthy short debate. Not really holding you hostage here, but if you feel threatened then apologies as I have a tendency to create these passive-aggressive posts.

I needed a clear answer to this and Chapstick did give me a hint on where to look online for specific details and past articles.

DOA is essentially "3D Anime", though it tends to straddle a funny line between "realistic" and "Anime". When people think of anime fighters, they mostly think of airdashers.

As for Phase-4's Mu costume, I mostly like it, but if there was anytime to dye her hair blonde, this would've been a time. The red hair clashes a bit with the look.

It's not so much an apology, it's more like a way of saying I understand. I can admit I was wrong and I'll agree in this situation, although Soup Calibur did say in a a game article that the fifth entry had manga and anime influence. Tekken went in the anime direction starting with 5 Dark resurrection, Lili is a prime example and the reason or was the reason I cared about the series. DOA just has the anime look but the characters are no doubt based on anime tropes. You could name me a character and I could likely tell you the trope they based on. But yeah in short what I mean is I see your point

Honoka (you know..because she's pretty much a Love Live clone) and the anime collab outfits are most likely the reason.

Just the answer I was expecting, but this is one of the reasons why due to labeling from regards to airdash mechanics alone. Not exactly helpful there for making a raw change to a genre as of now. I won't go off topic about it since the thread is about DLC, but the thread responses did spark my curiosity to look it up (which will probably be vague too since it keeps mentioning collab packs off hard search results.)

See but that's recent lol. That....could be a reason yeah...maybe.

I think the big chunks of bright white and loose hair make Phase's body look too bulky in this. "Too bulky" has never stopped TN with outfits before tho

And copy pasted the generic blonde pigtail loli from every anime ever.

Yeah, in the scene here, Anime = Airdashers & KOF, though KOF is not an airdasher and has no related mechanics (i.e. It's another kind of 2D fighter). The airdasher scene unfortunately isn't really that into DOA, despite liking the aesthetics because of how the game plays making it come off as a bit of a black sheep in the FGC.

Though with regards to costumes & content, TN originally was much more Western-focused with DOA5 Alpha (hell even DOA2, 3, 4, etc. were marketed more towards Westerners such as including Aerosmith music for instance). Though as DOA5/DOA5U/DOA5LR progressed, TN & KT shifted more and more to the Asian markets, which of course prefers more Anime-themed content (*coughs*mariehonoka*coughs*). A lot of the collabs reflect that too. In the end, it's simply a case of what sells best for KT at a minimal cost to them.

Unfortunately this is a case of majority of BB's & GG's female character designs being too scrawny whereas DOA's females at least somewhat try to resemble a potential realistic figure, albeit with ahem... enhanced assets.
