The Shoho is still just as easy as ever (which is very easy). His advanced Izuna counters are where the real challenge is at in DOA5, imo.

Anyway, the direction of the roll doesn't matter. I typically go up, 360 CCW for it, though. Starting rolling the stick as soon as you press down on the punch button for the second time.

The input display makes it look trickier than it actually is. Just practice the feel/timing and you should snag it up in no time. =)

Thanks! Right when I read your post I attempted it and got it. Now I am stuck on the counter Izuna drops. Motherfu.... It is confusing because it will be :6::4::h::Link::2::1::4::7::8::h::Link::6::9::8::7::4::1::2::h: ... looks like I am suppose to switch directions mid counter.

Yeah. Cyber will be able to help you more on this one than I can, I'm afraid. The Izuna counters seem to allow far less room for error in DOA5 than they did in 4 or the Alpha demo. I still can't pull them off reliably/consistently.
Before, you didn't have to switch directions for the counter izunas or the izuna otoshi, despite what the input read. However, 5 seems a bit stricter, as I mentioned earlier. I'm not exactly sure what directions or roll errors are permitted on them.
My only advice would be to play around with the Izuna Otoshi first, and hope that the input reads similarly to the counters on the last to sections.

Finally got past the counters with the advice of not paying attention to the changing directions. I kept hitting the demonstration (clicking the right stick), and kept watching the timing when I realized, that sound was the cue. No joke, I closed my eyes, did the low counter Izuna, first try by listening to the sound and got it. When you are supposed to hit the final counter circle H, Busa makes a big WHOOSH sound. That is when he takes off the ground and you are suppose to do the input.

Now I am stuck on the damn Mekkyaku Senryu...Cyyybbbbberrrrrr!!!!

Does anyone use 3k? It stuns on hit and has good range, and you can follow it up with 2k or another k, I don't have the game but it seems good from what I've seen.

Actually it's Ongyoin > H+P > 41236 H+P > 360 H+P. The last one might be a 3/4 circle but I buffer a full circle anyway. The timing is much tighter than it probably should be but it does great damage. It's only really viable off of 66K though.

What have you guys found to be his best Critical Burst line-ups? I'd share mine, but unfortunately they rely on using the actual P+K twice, which I feel makes them too obvious/predictable for games against other players.

8P 4P 6P > CB > whatever works. Have to free cancel the 4P into 6P naturally but that's likely the quickest that doesn't need backturn and isn't all mids. Only real issue, if you want to call it that, is the fact that 8P launches on counter hit instead of stuns, so you're likely going to get small juggles when you go for it. This isn't a bad thing obviously but is important enough to mention. That said, playing the CB game with Busa is not a wise choice in most cases in terms of damage weighed against the risk of being countered.

Has anyone figured out how to actually play Ryu in this game? I mean every character in the game beats him up close... And i feel he's most effective at ninpo 6p range. Other than that its meh... His 2p used to help in matchups, now i feel its completely useless because of the nerf to his jab and 8k. And if he's a grappler why doesnt he have a normal Offensive hold, that handstand gimmick is really not all that good... and it never was

I play him similar to how you would Brad Wong but at a further distance, relying on odd, unpredictable strikes that throw people out of their rhythm. It's been better in my experience to focus on quick flooring attacks and resetting rather than trying to follow through with long combos.

Here is how you play Ryu. Throw punish..... And pray they have no good mids so you can try and crush. While trying to bait as many Izuna holds as possible.

Im a little disappointed that Ryu no longer can keep the pressure going using his Ongyoin teleports and his :2::3::6::K: is gone :(
but hes still a powerhouse ninja. Plus he has a air grab (love that damn move) more powerful/better combo strains and that crazy insane Koryuho move from his Ongyoin stance (which is also my favorite). He may had lost his speed, but hes still a beast and if you know how to use him well, he can become a deadly super ninja. ;)

I feel the same freaking way. I just can't win with him. Ever. I'm an awfull player but still. I should at least be able to beat people who know less then me >_>

Like today I got a guy into one of his plus 2 traps. I go mid....he jabs....Next time I get him into the situation I go high...I get crushed. I'm gonna have a meltdown soon lol. I feel so freaking dumb.

I'm sure he understood the trap.....yeah, I will go with that. I also swear everytime I do a plus 2 and I go for 3P+K I eat a random attack.

I'm starting to wonder if no matter how hard I try my mind just isn't sharp enough to excel at fighting games. Regardless of how much I know or practice. Just my luck.

Where do you guys find these challenging players?
I always win with Ryu, and I'm no hot-shot myself.

I've tried ranked matches and lobbies. Same thing.
