If any Toronto DOA players are still active in the scene, would you guys be interested in a tournament on June 9th at A&C?

Just a reminder to any T.O. DOA players that there's a tournament at the A&C tomorrow after 1PM. Come drop by if you can.

When does everyone usually meet up? I get the mechanics (more or less) but I have no clue how 3D fighters flow and want to get a sense of how the game works. I'm an hour and a half from downtown Toronto, in Scarborough.

The most common meet up day is Wednesday at A&C World. Feel free to drop by this coming week! I'm usually there after 5PM.

Since I start working on Monday's every week, and start at 9:00PM I'll be there early, 3:00 is when it usually opens and probably will be there till 6:00 from now on, unless my shift changes at all. Till then I'll be there around then during those times. I main Brad Wong and Pai, and am learning Sarah. Picking up Momiji once 5U Drops.

GGs today Harry. It was good playing your Kokoro this evening! Now you have a taste of offline and the ability to actually react properly to all moves (love lagless monitors). A few tips though to keep in mind next time you're in the lab or when playing casual matches:

- Kokoro doesn't specialize in zoning and it isn't an optimal playstyle for her, especially against a mid-range & zoning specialist such as Ayane
- Try your best to explore all of Kokoro's frame advantage moves on block (including her string throws), and be sure to capitalize on all advantages on hit. See if you can find a vortex or a reset with her.
- Work Kokoro's mix-ups to the fullest when on the inside
- Be careful about holding too often when at disadvantage. It gives the opponent too many opportunities for a hi-counter reset throw or a stronger stun or launch (if wrong hold). Slow escape instead.
- You had some really nice combos and setups. Try to discover some more!

If anyone else has any better tips to provide please feel free to chime in, because I'm just a glorified scrub with Kokoro lol. I can teach Ayane, Kasumi or Hitomi though.

Anyway keep it up Harry and I'll see you next week!

Thanks for the tips! I'll be spending more time in the lab studying pressure, then. Are there any main sources of match vids for DOA? It would probably do some good for me to see what the top players do with her.

Here's your first stop:

http://www.freestepdodge.com/forums/kokoro.41/
Kokoro's Dojo

Here's a good match with Kokoro kicking around Ayane (Not mine though...)

Here's Kokoro wrecking her rival Akira

Here's Kokoro handling a more troublesome opponent, Christie

(A lot of Korean backdashes used for spacing here)

Here's a good match against a very solid GenFu

And here's Kokoro taking care of a really good Kasumi player.

Hope this helps!

A Christie player should be coming in next week.

GGs again Harry. Very cool that you got your stick dual-modded. I may get that done to my stick next time (though I'll still hold onto my converter). I wish my stick had colourful buttons too lol.

You did better with the pressure this time and got in some nice critical burst setups. For next time add in some launch setups to strengthen your mix-up game. Kokoro is most threatening when she can chain sitdown stun after sitdown. Ayane or Hitomi can't do that. I will also give you a warning that Christie and Ayane can be major threats to Kokoro. As for Hunter I'm still not sure who your Main is but I like what I see from your Brad Wong and Mila. I'm trying to look at some tech for Mila but can't seem to flow properly with her yet. As for Brad Wong, Hoods has a Brilliant Brad.

I also learned that I'm awful at Tag matches (>.<). I'll need to work on that for 5U.

She does have quite a few sitdown stun, but they all blow the other guy across the screen. So far, I've only found 8P6P 236P 66 7P/7K, stun 8P6P 7P/7K, and 3K4K P+K 7K to have the followup guaranteed (fastest SE).

Biggest problem, I think, is my reliance on high stun extenders and mid punch approach tools. I'm experimenting with Stun 3KP 9PP2KP (or 9PP2K delay K for a +20 force tech) but I'm hoping I can squeeze more damage in there. As for getting in, I'm trying 1P, but both the followups are beat by 2P and by itself, it's -10 (and -7 on normal hit). 1K is decent 'cause it has good followups, but it's really nothing to write home about.

The best I can say is to focus on saying close to your opponent or try to get them cornered. The more you push your opponent away, the less favourable it is for Kokoro. I would likely suggest checking out the Kokoro forums and asking around how they approach their opponents. Don't discount the 1P or 1K mix-ups though. They can be handy for opening up your opponent.

Here's a sample match of how to fight with Kokoro against someone like Ayane. Take note of the first half of the video.

5U in 5 days peeps! GET HYPE!! Let's all check out some people in the lab next Tuesday, then Wednesday. I'll look over Rachel (and some Momiji while also adjusting to Ayane's changes). Will someone look over Leon to see how she compares to Rachel? And Ein to Hitomi? I'm also intrigued by Jacky.

Let's get this game down as best we can! Also, Harry I noticed that you're getting more accustomed to facing Ayane now. I saw you trying to incorporate some techniques from the Emperor of Japan/BigBoss match posted previously. Good use of pokes to open me up.

Also, looks like Persona 4 Arena will be our "unofficial side game". Lol, that game is too much fun although I was playing a shitty character. Thanks for the tips in that game Harry despite the fact that my experience with 2D fighters is minimal (think Shoryuken spam with Ken in SF4 then you get my playstyle).
