EVO 2k13 July 12-14th @ Paris Hotel Las Vegas, NV

Are you a seasoned gambler? Coz if the 'trick' to gambling is just have self-control, I might look into going to the casino more..... so I can get to Las Vegas sooner lol

    Devil's Third (Itagaki's next project)

Lol that uDraw bullshit was the riskiest unrisky move a studio ever pulled. I think they wanted a novelty peripheral thing like EA and Activision had with Rock Band/Guitar Hero. Anyway, EA or Activision won't be taking in Itagaki. He's a critical darling, but his games don't sell. Who...

EVO 2k13 July 12-14th @ Paris Hotel Las Vegas, NV

What a nice guy! And just for the record, from a non-American perspective, the idea of getting a complimentary stay at a hotel in Vegas is..... the stuff of legend. I need to be one of the crazy foreign people that spends several grand to fly over for the weekend once a year. Sounds amazing.

    Devil's Third (Itagaki's next project)

Nah, THQ had the rights to the IP, which they returned last year. I'm also concerned with them finding another publisher, at least in the West. When a company like THQ goes down, all that's left is really EA and Activision. Like hell they're gonna gamble on risky games. I wouldn't mind them...

    Tiers vs Favorites (Fighting)

Oh yeah no doubt you gotta tier whore Third Strike. It's only claim to any sort of balance lies in the parry system in my opinion. I'm just saying, Kuroda did what he did with Q because he attended events, rather than sitting at home doing nothing.

    Tiers vs Favorites (Fighting)

Just to go along with what d3v and CyberEvil said, you don't lose money. You gain experience, knowledge, and wisdom. You could possibly take your favourite fighting character to the next level after attending a tournament. I mean, Kuroda couldn't have done with what he did with Q in SFIII:TS...

    DOTA 2

Just this Saturday, had my friends bring over their PCs, and along with my brother and several other guys around the neighbourhood, they played DOTA 2 from 10pm - 6am. I told them to go pro level since they're all good and play it everyday anyway. But man oh man, is DOTA 2 quite possibly the...

The Rise of Competitive Gaming & E-Sports (video)

I dunno why the community embraced the term 'e-sport'. You don't call football (soccer) a ball sport, you don't call bodybuilding a muscle sport, and you don't call chess a board sport. They're all just plain sport. Likewise, while we play in the video game medium, the fact of the matter is...

Online Servers: Are they regional or global? (PS3 related)

Yeah my PSN account is NZL. I think there really is no one playing down here, lol. To be fair, most people are on the Xbox system so....

Online Servers: Are they regional or global? (PS3 related)

Hey guys, So I just realized one of the problems I've had with Mortal Kombat 9 is that the servers are regional, and when I imported my copy into New Zealand, I only see lobbies from South America, because that's where the disc came from. I believe MK9 implements a disc-regional server thing...

    The lack-of-stagger-escape glitch poll

Gosh speaking of which, I'd totally travel to the U.S to compete in tournaments, even when the prize pool isn't enough to justify the costs of traveling. Hopefully next year though, if the scene remains relatively stable.

    Yes or No to Patch?

Not sure if sarcasm advances the cause, because you might miss the point. I'm also not sure if we're talking about the same concept of precision; it's a play style, not a mastery of mechanics. Using the same example I used before, Latif is one of the most incredibly precise executioners in the...

    Yes or No to Patch?

heh. Crappy netcode + living in New Zealand = bitch please. At least you can play the game with someone. :(

    Yes or No to Patch?

I can see what he's trying to get at though. It's that western flair vs. japanese precision thing. I mean it's not DoA, let alone 3D, but this fight between Latif and Fuudo in SSF4:AE kinda illustrates the different play styles. Latif was out-muscling Fuudo early in that set, but he was going up...

    Yes or No to Patch?

Part of the reason that Japanese games fell out of popularity in the West (save Nintendo developed ones) this generation is due to the differing philosophies in game design. The action-oriented ones such as the Platinum Games, er, games, and some of Capcom's IPs (which even had some franchises...

    Yes or No to Patch?

I would agree, except doaworld proves me wrong.

    Yes or No to Patch?

I think that was the case for the proposed later release of the patch (Microsoft damn notorious for their XBL QA), nevertheless the PS3 was/is the lead platform. Gosh, just reminds me how much of an outlier Itagaki was.

    Yes or No to Patch?

Are those three guys (and girl) the all time best at DoA? I see them everywhere. Looks like they totally schooled the home team.

    Yes or No to Patch?

I'm not knowledgable enough to make such a call, but what I just saw from that playlist Haipa Sonniku provided was the clinical precision that Japanese players always exhibit in all fighting games, and that does require a fair bit of knowledge about frame data in other games, so I don't see why...
