DOA6 Graphics Thread

The game has different display modes. Xbox One X will be able to hold 60fps, just not on a resolution focused mode. Look to Nioh for a comparison of what they’re likely doing. Should be a 1080p locked mode there and with luck both the PS4 and Xbox One will have a high performance mode without issues.

People taking things and running with them without context.

PC HDR probably wasn’t worth the dev time since it’s a minuscule amount of the PC population trying to use it. Not a lot of options for monitors and most TVs aren’t great due to input delay as a monitor. PS4 sorta confuses me though. That really should have it.

This and most likely you can make PC graphics better with injectors(reshade etc) & mods

So basically the takeaway from this thread is the game looks ugly AF even though it's really not?
No the take away from this thread is that we're all passionate about this franchise for various reasons, and in this particular thread you'll find a lot of people that take the graphic quality that DOA is known for very seriously. Sometimes to the point of temporarily becoming nihilistic but at the end of the day we all love this game and just want to see it succeed.

This is what you get for paying too much attention to details. Yes, some details look worse than DOA5 but overall DOA6 is a very beautiful, bright and colourful game. When I played the beta the game felt more uplifting and pleasant to look at, when I compare DOA5 with DOA6, DOA5 looks very depressing with the shaders and colours. Too bad some character models look eh in 6 compared to how they looked in 5 but it is just something we have to get used to. I’m pretty sure DOA6 will get future updates after it’s release making the game look better. Some people here are very pessimistic and bring down the overall morale and hype over DOA6. I would like it if those people would stop with that behaviour.

Ah, the "detail" of a busted lighting system that literally coats every pixel of every frame in the game. Those dirty details!

This is like when you identify a flaw in a system and instead of agreeing with you or debating the logic of your point, they just say "You think too much." Apologies for having a brain that takes notice of things.

No, but I'll let you try again.
So basically you are a new member, or a member that's a while longer here, but doesn't have much to contribute other than drive-by shitposting?

Well looking through this thread and seeing this almost borderline maniacal fixation with details that most people won't notice unless you're a professional like Tyaren, that's exactly what it looks like. It's actually reached a point where it's enough to put someone off getting the game and if I didn't get to see the game at TGS myself, I'd be drinking from the punch bowl too. But because I DID play the game at TGS, I can say that it looked quite a bit better DOA5LR and wayyy better than Tekken 7, SC6 and SFV. I didn't have the luxury or even the patience to zoom in on every single strand of hair or fabric as you guys are doing now, but when I got back home and fired up 5, there was a quite a noticeable difference in the overall visual quality—even with the "flaws" that you've recently exposed.

Let me guess: you're not going to defend that position with empirical evidence or facts, but will instead project a vague sense of how much you liked it and scorn anyone who bothers to construct informed opinions to the contrary?

Off topic but a quick observation, I'm looking at Hayate's face and the devs could've further developed his facial features a little more. Just subtle changes like how they've done to Kasumi (which is SO much better & more of a accurate representation of her country of origin, Japan). For example, by accentuating his features more such as his eyes, nose, cheekbones and general face structure. Hayate to an extent, doesn't really look like someone who's Asian/Japanese, it's a hit and big a miss. He's leaning more towards looking Mediterranean in DOA6 and racially ambiguous. Below is a quick soft edit I did in Photoshop so folks can get a visual understanding of what I mean.

@Tyaren I hope you don't mind me editing your pics that you snapped and put together

Nice edit, and I don't mind at all. ;) I think you could've gone a little further even.
I do not agree though that any subtle changes they made to Kasumi made her look more Asian or more realistic in general. She has the same racially ambiguous doll look than before.

That reminds that before DOA6 was announced we were actually wondering how much they were going to improve the character modelling and if they were going with the direction of Nioh, actually modelling Asian characters as Asian characters:

Seems they didn't improve it much at all and they didn't make them look more Asian.

Maybe we will get this character model detail in DOA7...

Damn, that hair detail and polish is insane (compared to DOA6)...

Because most developers, despite boasting about how much more than they can do now with the latest machine... simply can't due to numerous reasons. Hell, there was really no point to the PS4 Pro or Xbox One X because most developers barely figured out the full capacity of the PS3, let alone the PS4.

Most developers didn't even want to try with Cell and Blu-ray until they were forced by Sony's Worldwide Studios offerings.

Tekken 7 Fated Retribution was downgraded from Tekken 7. Even before the original was released, Kazuya's leather coat physics were downgraded. Unreal Engine 4 is being used in ways not initially designed.

Back on the DOA 6 though.

The game was at 4K / 60 fps on PC at last year's E3. You could see over time the downgrades in lighting (Hayabusa's Break Blow) to accommodate PS4 and Xbox One. How much of a hit was what I was bracing for. Like I said, the Tekken community went through it (LUYG streamer Rip at the time said that the Tekken 7 Arcade to PS4 was like Tekken 6 PS3 to Tekken 6 PSP, hence the delay).

Well, the art shift from 4 to 5 was pretty controversial for some, but in the long run, I think it really paid off. Most people I know really appreciate that (most) characters have their own faces now and what have you. There would be some backlash, sure, but ultimately I think a shift to an art direction closer to Nioh's would work for DOA in the long run.

It's weird, too. Nioh is one of the only recent Japanese games to actually make their Japanese characters look Japanese, and they're all beautiful. I realize that Okatsu is the obvious choice of comparison (being a young, pretty woman like many of the DOA characters), but seriously, look at some of the other characters. Even Tokugawa, an older thickboi, is gorgeous.

I will never understand the aversion to embracing these features. They're absolutely lovely.

I can guess one of the reasons......shitty CPUs in consoles.

Astonishing. This is what I call art.

I was honestly really hoping that DOA6 would look like Nioh. Such a gorgeous game.
But they decided to use a "modified" Dynasty Warriors engine...
