  • Maybe it's me but it's kinda frustrating to play one 3d fighter where the majority of your defense revolves around meter, where you can't stagger, and if you have no meter, you're playing an endless guessing game the minute you're on stun until you die.

Just hopped off Tekken where I'm playing a orange rank Kazuya and the dude's main go to moves was w/r 2 which is -18 on block. Like it's that kind of play that improves absolutely no one and once that Kazuya dies, he'll hop off send salty messages and learn nothing about fundamental tekken.

As the games promote that YOLO, flowchart, autopilot-type of gameplay, unless I'm playing a high-level set. But it's whatever at this point. Idk when another DOA's coming. No VF. Tekken's doing another season likely which I'm pessimistic about.

I guess I'll try SC again. Didn't like season 1 and I'm not optimistic about it but it's whatever.
It's been about a week since I've started this new grind. Here are my collected thoughts so far in regards to how I'm playing my new characters:

Leifang: Solid fundamentally for me. Similar to Tina & Bass, I feel that I need extensive knowledge to really get her hold game on point & by then, I'll end up dying too many times. But she has tools offensively. I also gotta look and see what options I have as well.
    T..J. Bernard
    T..J. Bernard
Rig: Solid fundamentals. I still feel hella stagnant with him. Plus I still feel like I die 50+ times before I finally get to what I need to do and by the time I do that, it's already too late.

Haven't used Zack, Lisa, Jann Lee, or Kokoro yet and All I gotta say about Bayman is that I play hella autopilot w/ him. I'll look to lab them more. My worst match-ups so far are any i9 (Eliot included), Helena, Kokoro, & Ayane. Advice for my characters are always welcomed. Especially for what tools to use in neutral, keep-out, & deep stuns.
Question: What characters in DOA have a martial art that is used for sport? Thinking through some stuff.
    T..J. Bernard
    T..J. Bernard
The Martial art can be used for MMA, it can be an actual competitive sport, &/or it can be a part of the olympics/world games. Whether as a demonstration or an actual competition.
    DestructionBomb
    DestructionBomb
Bajiquan has definitely been used for demonstrations and sports.

I was going to mention Kokoro, however her bio doesn't state that she's participated in any (except for the Dead or Alive tournament I guess), but the martial art behind it has been very well used for sports and demostration.

My Top 5 DOA soundtracks. Might do a Soundtrack tier list some time.
    5. Secret of Kung-Fu (DOA 5)
    4. Solitary Desperation (DOA 4)
    3. Face Club remix (DOA 6)
    2. Blood Tie (DOA 5 especially)
    1. Eternity (DOA 3)

It's an alright track. But nothing crazy for me. I forgot runner-ups include: Hold my lovin (DOA 6 or DOAx3), Hitohira (DOA 2), Vigaku (DOA 2 especially), & Natural High (DOA 2).
Welp I've yet to win a single online tournament set in DOA. Let's see if that might change today.

Shoutout to @Force_of_Nature & Cygnus for the Mila help the past couple days. She's growing on me well. Now I just gotta execute during games.

What time do you tend to get on?
    T..J. Bernard
    T..J. Bernard
Usually later in the evening or at night. At times I can hop on in the afternoon. But since today, I'm on exams & stuff, I'm probably gonna be on either later at night or tomorrow.
Biggest thing I like right now about playing more Hitomi, Mila & others: I feel like I'm back to the learning board where I just learn how to play the game & learn the character from scratch.
    T..J. Bernard
    T..J. Bernard
Much better for me than playing Rig, remaining stagnant where I lose 30+ times & I question why use this character when I know, I'm not going far with him.
    Hold_Junkie93
    Hold_Junkie93
Rig's a discount VF4 Sarah anyway (In which she could do throw whilst in flamingo still)
Rotating with DOA5:LR & DOA 6 gives me this insight: 5 made me a better defensive player. Not saying I'm great defensively. Still ways to go. But although I think the Sidestep in 5 was awful, having the options to stagger escape & such gave me more options in regards to how much of a threshold I can take before I have to make a guess.

Yeah. It was under maintenance last night. I think the maintenance is done now but that was what was going on yesterday.
Played DOA 6 for the 1st time in a while. Hope to get more sets in the near future. Might experiment on Mila a bit more.
What 2k just pulled off is the reason why sports games continue to regress in competitive modes & why no matter what, fighting games are mostly fair in regards to competition. Another pay to win scenario.
    T..J. Bernard
    T..J. Bernard
Recently, 2k however came out with a Pink Diamond (Near perfect card) Giannis that can shoot like Curry, athletic, can defend, and on top of it all, is now able to play PG where nearly all the PG's are 6'3 & under. HOW IS THIS FAIR 2K??????? You literally killed an entire position yet again!
    T..J. Bernard
    T..J. Bernard
Nobody will want to "build the ultimate team for competitive tourneys" cause now all you gotta do is buy packs and get PG Giannis & plow through every point guard not PG Giannis & win. Tekken with Leroy was ridiculous, NiCO grand finals was one thing also, but this is nuts. And on top of that, there's no "Patching" or "Nerfing" this card. Ridiculous man.

In other news: Tamaki looks alright. Nothing crazy. But I do like that there's a new fighting style involved. A 10-framer's also interesting rather than the typical 9-framers. Hopefully the hair situation's resolved as well.
In regards to this hair situation, simple solution for not only hair, but DLC, Core-Fighters,etc: Let us use our IN-GAME CURRENCY. If you have in-game currency, make it able to buy everything. The in-game currency to me is still beyond useless.

With DLC, make the DLC a high in-game currency cost which you can either earn through grinding the game (which could take some time) or even buying enough currency. That's how I look at it, from a sports & fighting gamer's perspective.
    T..J. Bernard
    T..J. Bernard
The only problem with that also would be that companies could take this to the extreme and make the cost for items & VC ridiculous and I wouldn't put it past them to do that. But if done right and within reasonable means, I feel this could work.

In a perfect world it would be like that, but corporations have zero incentive to do it that way. They will only do it that way if they make money off of every transaction.
Is it bad that I kinda feel that gaming for me's not doing it as much? I feel like I play, then take a long hiatus, return and try to learn again just to take another long hiatus for school, sports, & ministry. Plus, learning characters & trying to compete in tourney's (If I can afford them) a huge drag to do. My passion's not the same as before.
Welp. I drowned in pools yet again. Did awful in DOA. But it's all good. It's part of learning this games meta vs DOA 5 and learning Rig with whoever would be my pocket. And though I drowned in tekken, I did get top 32 for the 1st time so I feel very accomplished as a Hwoarang and learning Steve.
I'll be at TFC for this year. I know I'll likely go 0-2 since I haven't played in a mean minute and I haven't been offline for DOA for 2 years but I look forward to meeting new people, reuniting with old friends and just enjoying offline competition.

Dang I forgot the online tourney's tomorrow. I'ma have to hold the L for that tourney. It's all good.
1st day fighting momiji's & I feel that she's solid fundamentally but not much stands out. She has good whiff punishment range, Decent pokes, string mix-up options, Plays to DOA6's meta well w/ stun launches but is pretty negative. I'll look more to this MU w/ Rig v. Momiji. She's much better than in 5 though so she'll be more dangerous to MU against.
Thinking through how people select pocket characters are very interesting. I think honestly, either picking a character w/ a similar playstyle but different strengths/weaknesses or a well rounded character to go along w/ a specific style is the way to go. Thoughts?
    T..J. Bernard
    T..J. Bernard
Similar style: I think it's hard to find someone of a similar style to Rig. Not many characters to me play a similar style to Rig. Those whom I think play a rushdown style (Christie?, Mai?, etc) are more on the poke oriented style so I probably would have a hard time. Maybe Christie? Ryu? Though Ryu's more counter-hit based. Idk to be honest.
    T..J. Bernard
    T..J. Bernard
Other considerations are Counter pick style, Tier list style, Rival/story style, etc. I like the Rival/story style as well. But more because I relate to the characters better that way, but that's just me.
    Force_of_Nature
    Force_of_Nature
People pick subs either because they complement their main and cover their bad MU's or they sub the character because they're easy, braindead and easy to win with compared to other characters. I.e People don't generally sub hard characters competitively.
Looking at the new moves from the Season 3 trailer of Tekken: Hwo's d/f1 gives a mid kick to left flamingo, Steve's sway 2 gives a wall bounce, Geese has a rage drive, Devil Jin's b2 can now transition to heaven's door, Heihachi has a ws punish that combos, Jin from CDS has a kick follow up from 1 &Kazuya has a new tailspin. There are other things too but it's a lot to list.

Nonetheless, I am hyped for Season 3. Leroy looks like a legitimate new character I'm invested in. I can care less about Zafina to be honest but welcome back. And still crossing my fingers for Hwang or Yun Seong in Season 2 SC VI. And waiting for the likely Momiji or Rachel reveal in DOA 6. Not the biggest fan of either (Would love Tifa or a VF to be honest). But nonetheless, looking to see who gets revealed.
I feel the best solution for the SS issue was to either make the SS slower so certain strings that did have tracking in them could hit more consistently, buff the free step & walk-speed for awesome back set-ups if someone did a linear string, & not give it hard knockdown to environments for crazy damage reward. Not making it cost meter to do it.
So Sidestep went back to being useless again..... Awesome....
    T..J. Bernard
    T..J. Bernard
Literally now only Helena, Christie, Zack, Brad, Bayman, Ryu, Marie Rose & anyone I forgot can SS with no issue....

Christie's sidestep is shit compared to a SSA. It still gets stuffed easily by linear attacks. TN making SSA's cost meter just screams of catering to whiny scrubs.

B: Lower case good Decent tools, but a lot more work required compared to the other characters.
C: Average: Requires a lot of work compared to the rest of the cast.

In between S & SS: Near Excellent. Really good characters. Need more exploring to be certain of their placement.

That's cool. Here's my opinion. https://tiermaker.com/list/video-games/dead-or-alive-6-fighter-tiers-4748/10403 didn't put S by itself but that reflects more or less how I see it in terms of viability between them. As well as fear, yomi, system/current meta overall etc. S is screw everyone, A is slightly worse and work well with the system. B works well with current meta and are good amongst each other, C is-cont.
    Hold_Junkie93
    Hold_Junkie93
C is not necessarily bad but have to do unorthodox things vs everyone else to keep up which in of itself a risky character with great reward if used well. D is potential. More so, kinda doo-doo in retrospect . Of course DoA being a bit of a player/yomi game makes these inherently subjective.
