DOA6 interviews

I blame Shimbori for this shit.

All the interviews were he try to be More "progresive" and chase the world trenes.

The obvius breast reduction the constant Shame of the legacy of DOA were some of the reason of why so many fans are so mad.
Let’s not start again with your delusional bullshit. Fans are displeased because Shimbori tries to please everyone instead of focusing on the more important things. Like designing good male characters, game balance, good graphics, focusing on the details and last but definitely not least male characters getting the same treatment as female characters. Nobody is mad except the PixelTittySquad and the Momiji stans, lol. Shimbori shouldn’t cater to people like you.

Xtreme was a good intention that blew up in the author's face. it was supposed to take some of the heat off of mainline, so that you would have a very lewd non-fighting game and a somewhat lewd fighting game
but thanks to it being a far bigger viral success and many of its aspects leaking BACK into mainline via doa5 you have the shitshow going on right now, with lunatics demanding mainline to be like it "because it happened once and uh uh i paid for it"

i don't know why they didn't just dump the entire ship and start over, though

"i really honestly 本当に want to make a serious fighter BUT BUT it needs to have these nothing-but-sex-appeal characters from a notorious softporn game! and the same title too!"

not gonna work sweetie

Lol Itagaki just made that shit up post hoc, because he wanted to complain about DOA5…
If you want to separate the Xtreme lewdness from your franchise you don't give your “container” the same name and you don't port some Bikinis in your next mainline entry (DOA2U I mean… DOA4 didn't get any, but that was fine for some reason  )

One more embarrassing interview. I understand that Shimbori is frustrated at this point talking about the game's sexualization everytime more than about anything else, but he's only reaping what he sowed. Next time just own it. Don't make false promises, don't make excuses, don't try to defend yourself all the time. Other games, like Street Fighter or SoulCalibur, are also sexualized and they just own it. They get far less ganged up on than DOA in return.
I'm glad though that Shimbori did understand two things:
1) They indeed went overboard with the sexualization in the later years of DOA5. There's sexy and then there's vulgar. They did imo cross from one into the other on multiple ocassions. Just be sexy, but also classy. I still remember Hayashi on stage ogling and salivating at Last Round's boob physics.
2) It is also true that many fans conflate DOA with DOAX by now, and now that DOAX3 turned more vulgar than ever those fans expect the same thing from the DOA main series. Only releasing DOAX3 in Asia didn't help much to separate them apparently, lol.

1. I honestly agree with his rage. As much as we can put blame on Shimbori for all of this, who keeps MAKING IT as if it's some attack on fanservice and Dead or Alive is ONLY good for that? How much does news sites really actually bother to do their damn research!? How many of these "fans" actually care about the game and it's mechanics?

There are things to blame Team Ninja for... this isn't one of them, especially when he wasn't the one who made DOAX or pushed for it nor was they anymore dedicated to keep talking about Xtreme anymore than they are now.

2. It's actually ironic because Soul Calibur IS ganged up on for it by it's own fans, seeing it just as bad as DOA itself, if not worse. And people mock SFV these days for the insane amount of outfits Chun-Li and Cammy have in respect to the rest of the roster. I even seen people who don't even mock DOA's DLC anymore because SFV is on the same roadpath.

Hell, people still complained about it with Mortal Kombat X and XI. The key difference is exactly like Shimbori stated:
DOAX is now basically seen AS a DOA major title rather than a spinoff. Itagaki basically screwed them over by making the spinoff game and people conflate them so hard, that it's now basically seen as the face of DOA somehow, even with it's never even covered outside of Japan.
It's now worse in this climate for America because again, everything is fucking political... even when no one cares or wants it to be.

Yes, how DOA5 was pushed did not help at all and that can be blamed on the current Team Ninja and more importantly Tecmo Koei.
But we cannot only throw shade at Shimbori about this because if you have a good ear on the ground like I do, this has been happening everywhere but DOA is more affected because of DOAX's sheer existence and the political climate going full on insane in America.

What drives me nuts is that Soul Calibur, especially VI, is easily worse than any DOA game, because of how it's presented. In DOA fighters, all the sexiness is presented as something that's consensual and well within the agency of the characters- Tina wearing a bikini top because she wants to dress like that, etc. This is fine for the most part, and actually sex-positive. Soul Calibur VI on the other hand has all these weird pervy angles, and the "sexy" mechanic is you forcibly undressing your opponent through physical violence. Also Soul Calibur does this with underage girls too. It's real gross, and nothing like in any DOA game.

DOA's stigma, in my opinion, mostly comes from bad marketing rather than anything especially "problematic" in-game, and also the Xtreme series basically being sofcore porn. Nothing wrong with sexy games, but Team Ninja just sends so many mixed messages.

USA really is a trash country, no offence to the people living in it but damn. That country always has something fucked up going on.

Still, in general it isn’t Shimbori’s fault. But he shouldn’t keep the ball rolling now he is in charge. He now has the power to turn the tide for DOA6 and DOA as a fighting series in general, so he should be really careful when making upcoming decisions. When it comes to the costumes at the moment I think he’s making a step into the right direction, sexy outfits that are okay to have. Some people might find the Christie dominatrix outfit too much, but I think it fits Christie as a character since she is someone that seduces people to assassinate. I personally don’t think TN should add swimsuits to 6, without a beach stage swimsuits look out of place and awkward to fight in. If Shimbori decides to add swimsuits I hope he keeps it at 3-4 swimsuits per character max so it doesn’t turn into a DOAX4. If they are going to do guest characters they should take more of the serious characters like Kiryu and Jin so DOA6 is actually seen as a fighter.

What I meant is the gaming press, interviews and previews focusing almost entirely on DOA's sexualization. They hardly care about anything else, they all berate Shimbori for DOA's sexualization and recently (and imo rightfully so) for hoodwinking everybody at reveal the sexualization was going to be reduced. (We never believed it, but others did.) SoulCalibur 6 and Street Fighter V are and were never constantly berated like this to the point of making their director frustrated, even angry.

Shimbori's just gotta stick with one narrative, which I think he's finally doing (a year too late, but still). It's the wishy-washy responses that led him into trouble. Just say what direction you want to take your game and stick with it. The "desexualization" controversy was obviously entirely invented by chuds on the internet, but they were able to get it going because Team Ninja didn't have clear marketing/messaging when they announced the game. I'm not blaming the developers, this problem is Itagaki's legacy, but they could have contained it better moving forward.

You want DOA to be taken seriously? You want "I'm a fighter" to be the slogan? Then you have to just ignore the chuds and creeps measuring boob sizes and spamming the DOATEC twitter, and you also have to completely dismiss "journalists" who repeat those chuds' talking points. Stay the course, make your good fighting game.

This. Funny enough, they did take Mai in the more "extremely faithful to KoF, Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting" direction in their trailer without really going for anymore fanservice shots or lingers that isn't present with her to begin with in those games.
That, to me, is the best direction DOA should go for if it wants any new female fighters or guest characters.

As stated, sexy outfits are fine... but there needs to be limits.

And we can't blame Shimbori for that. That's the main general problem is the fact that the journalists don't really care for the state of games because most of them can't even play games well, if at all. And you equally have people who say they don't give a shit apparently believing them hand over fist. It's basically a parasitic give and take and the only reason it keeps popping up because both groups don't give a shit about DOA at it's depth, they see the harbinger of SJW vs. Sexuality. Reminder that Journalists was NEVER kind to DOA at any point, with this political shift, it just gotten exponentially worse.

Shimbori's just gotta stick with one narrative, which I think he's finally doing (a year too late, but still). It's the wishy-washy responses that led him into trouble. Just say what direction you want to take your game and stick with it. Ironically, Shimbori did. That still didn't stop them whatsoever and still doesn't because they see what DOA5 did and what happened to Xtreme to be their... shall I say "Their Vietnam". Journalists never gave a flying fuck about DOA and has always consistently gave it shit, especially after Xtreme became a thing, people need to remember this is nothing new.

Where the problem comes from is that those complaining see what Shimbori stated as a betrayal to THEM. Even though they don't play DOA seriously, if at all or even give a shit about it, they suddenly care because they feel it will just give the SJWs another push... even if it's Shimbori and Team Ninja's decision and one of the many things they argued for was that Developers should be able to create what they want without any agenda pushing(how ironic...).
I honestly haven't seen the guy flip-flop at all, just mistranslation after mistranslation and surprise, surprise, everytime he clarifies himself, he suddenly isn't given any press or anything. People complain that the sexuality has been toned down since Day One... despite Shimbori clarifying it in Day Two... but no one cares because well, that breaks the narrative.

You see my point here?

The only reason why this mess happened in the first place was because Shimbori said his goal was to "tone down" the fan service rather early on which led to the pervs coming out of their caves and borderline protesting the entire game. In a later review he corrected this by saying he wanted to “change the series image” instead. Anyone with functioning brain cells should have known that’s what he meant from the start, but people took what was basically a misunderstanding and blew it out of proportion which led to, for example, the DOA subreddit claiming that Kasumi and Ayane look skinny because their breasts are allegedly a size or two smaller. This is really just reinforcing the fact that the internet and the world in general is filled with people who are unable to think for themselves and/or change their perception on a certain topic because they’re too deeply rooted in their ways. DOA6 is going to end up being a prime example of how today’s outrage culture is getting out of hand, especially when it comes to large groups of people jumping to conclusions way too soon.

Yes this more recent interview was a compilation of the other interviews. Then Nyo-Tengu's story was mentioned, and the author ended the paragraph with "this is where it gets interesting." OH it's just what's on Nyo-Tengu's biography. I used to learn new things and enjoy interviews for Team NINJA's games, now it's just repetitive crap.

I think it was also unfair to bring up his emotional status. Everyone gets hurt in the FGC.

i should've known better than to trust words coming out of an oatmeal cookie

That's not an oatmeal cookie... that happened from absorbing too much essence.

for hoodwinking everybody at reveal the sexualization was going to be reduced.

Well, I guess you could technically say this is true if you compare it to DOA5LR… way fewer fetish outfits, fewer boob physics options, and the available options are less “outrageous” (though I still wouldn't put it past them to have an unlockable “classic” setting that enables max jiggle on every outfit)

It doesn't even seem to be that difficult to weave all statements into a coherent narrative, you just need a competent marketing guy/gal to do that lol

I really doubt he had any input regarding the initial marketing push in the West and it was a strategy that's simply not a particularly good fit for the product they are/were creating. Also imo the PR people should have paid more attention to the narrative that built up around the game (from the internet, media and … other games ”media”) and just make a statement that clearly communicates the game's vision early on, but they simply let it slide and let Shimbori clean up the mess after the smoke screen completely evaporated. (E.g. he never said that they will no longer have boob physics, in fact, he said the opposite 2 days after the game was revealed, yet it's a common talking point that still persists to this day… and of course the retardation regarding smaller boobs)

They imo simply have no clue how to market this game in the West… they are trying to get away from the “shallow tiddy fighter”/“creepy Volleyball game” stigma, but the aggressive “No, no… don't look at the boobies. We are all serious now!” approach simply doesn't work, if you still put so much tiddy in the game that it can't be overlooked.

They just have to clearly separate themselves from the Xtreme label and then I guess go with a “high-quality T&A and so much more approach”. Like try to spin it into a positive that this is a game full of “strong, sexy women” and also highlight the unique stuff… interactive stages, approachable but deep and unique (since VF is dead) mechanics etc. It really shouldn't be that hard to find good marketing pitches for the series since the games simply aren't that bad… yet here were are.

Honestly, I'm still waiting if she will have a legitimate name and still been waiting.
Fuck it, someone go ask MASTER if they finally gave her a legit name. I can't wait until DOA6 releases if they did, I just want a name!

Honestly Tecmo Koei should have never allowed Shimbori to go this far BY HIMSELF. He should have had someone, ANYONE with experience in PR and today's climate and made certain journalists didn't spread this level of bullshit this far in.

I can't blame Shimbori for the sheer failure of the PR because Shimbori nor Team Ninja is in charge of their fucking PR, TECMO KOEI IS!
He's flying all over the world, most likely running himself ragged ON TOP OF getting the game off the floor with other designers, programmers and artists also being ran ragged... all for some complete asshole journalists and "fans" not even trying to get off their damn soapboxes and realize that this is just a fucking game, not a statement.

This just infuriates me because it basically shows what's wrong on both sides of the fence and I can't wait until both sides finally shut the fuck up and just vanish of the face of the Earth. "We should allow the developers to do whatever they want" *Developers does what they want* "How dare they do that thing! Fuck them, they betraying their fans" *Developers clarifies not even 2 days later* *Complete silence as neither side suddenly cares anymore until the next article in which they can then use as ammo*
This is modern day outrage culture, ladies and gentlemen.

the DOA subreddit claiming that Kasumi and Ayane look skinny because their breasts are allegedly a size or two smaller
this is the exact same thing /v/ said (the whole two times i was bored enough to click on a doa thread, anyway). for a couple years i've wondered why the quality of that board has gone to complete shit, looks like the answer was their sloppy fusion with reddit all along

i hope after everything that happened TN will consider adding these to their team next time
- someone well-versed in PR
- someone well-versed in psychology

the former for the journalists, the latter for your audience. i'm not being sarcastic. what you're dealing with is by far the most immature, brainlet and mentally fragile group of consumers around. you need a person who can understand and manipulate their feelings. absolutely DO NOT let anyone catch you uttering these cursed words:

shift change modify down less reduce decrease remove
etc.

not even as a smokescreen. don't even think about it. you need a second IQ digit to grasp such an elaborate tactic.

so not only did shimbori get caught uttering those words multiple times, western journalists used that information to play him like a fiddle for months. his pushover personality was also a detriment here. why wait that long to tell them to shut up? exposing them of asking nothing but babby questions could've probably scored him some fgc points, but he couldn't take the shot.

just to clarify, the subject in this sentence is the beloved audience and yes, demanding a third digit here is completely unreasonable when most of them barely reached the second
