DOA6 Graphics Thread

What's actually laughable is that because no one agreed with you here, you had to vent in your profile, making stuff up. XD

Guys, he claimed we said consoles are equally as powerful as PCs. He was either lying to make himself feel better and to get at least some agreement from others, or he lacks complete reading comprehension and that's why we were talking past eachother all this time.

Last but not least, and that is the last thing I say to you here, the Gamingbolt video you shared literally says of the oh so superior and leagues ahead PC version:
"DOA6 is no technical behemoth. It is a decent looking game, but there is no excuse for providing players with such a barebones PC graphical settings list."

This is a like-minded thread, do you think I expected to be backed in the pollution of it? You guys are literally acting like the PC version doesn't have distinct advantages just by being a PC game. I've played both and the PS4 version looks terrible. You are basing your graphical experiences with the game on console, and that's fine, but IMO not the way to rate the game overall.

I throw myself into situations all the time where the deck is stacked against me in conversation, and I do not mind that. I am a lover of DOA so that is to be expected from the get-go. My status update was indeed a vent on how ridiculous this thread is and you guys don't give PC the credit it deserves and are basing the graphics largely on out dated machines.

Just because PC doesn't have a lot custom options doesn't mean it's still leagues better looking. The same video metioned the texture filtering... the anti aliasing... and then their are custom options PC doesn't have. The HDR needs to be on XBOX ONE and it still doesn't look better than PC... and what do you get on XBOX? The possibility of messy frame rates.

HDR doesnt affect the framerate at all on xbox... but I also dont recommend using it because its not a good implementation of HDR at all. The PC version does have advantages over console version obviously you can play at higher resolutions with good framerates as long as you can run it, and you can get better shadows and some other higher settings...it is not however some major improvement over the console version.. its just marginally better, so it seems to me like an odd thing you guys are arguing over.

What it's over is Tyaren thinks he's such a graphics snob but he doesn't even play on the best hardware. Instead of blaming KT he often blames Team NINJA as if they had control over everything and that kind of seems what this thread is built on.

IMO console versions should be banned from tournaments, and that's not even the extremist in me. Say what you want and believe, but I call bullshit on this thread and on console fanboys who don't know better.

PC:

+ Better Texture Filter
+ Better Anti Aliasing
+ Better Shaders
+ Better Shadows
+ Better Load Times
+ Runs Better and is more fit for tournaments

PS4:

- Premium Tickets
- An equally DEAD online player pool

XBOX ONE:

- Horrible HDR implementation
- Graphics mode runs the game at 30 FPS according to that gaming bolt video
- Seriously I'm not even sure this system has a bigger player pool than PC.

Universal Problems with the game:

- Sky Boxes are not what they used to be
- Character models are far from perfect and PC will not help Hayabusa's lack of neck, the sometimes webbed arm pits, the blurry belly buttons and what have you.

There are some major issues, but it's not as bad as Ty likes to make people believe. Especially if you are actually fighting and not just putting it under a microscope. If you do that you'll find problems with any game.

arent they played on ps4? that seems much easier to get than tons of mid to high end PC's to play the tournaments. i mean if there was a big difference in input latency on pc might be worth it? but even then most players at those tournaments are used to playing on ps4 anyway.

either way this isnt really about console vs PC, everyone knows you can build a better PC than any console. It seems to me the game was built for the consoles mainly as it doesnt really take advantage of a high end PC in a significant way.

Thanks to Matt Ponton and others PC has been seeing more and more tournament use at majors because PS4 and XBOX ONE X just wouldn't put on a show. Most people from the community are in big favor of this that compete in tournaments so the games can feel 100% official and look their best.

with next gen coming they can make sure that the game takes advantage of them to speed up those load times, input latency and resolution on PS4 (and make graphics mode run at 60fps on xbox) they may be able to provide some nice improvements without asking anyone to buy a new version like last round. They could match what the pc version offers now at least...or they can try putting in some actual enhanced textures! but thats me dreaming...at this point ill be happy if they just fix the fucking hit effects...how is this still a thing I dont know, ive mentioned it so many times on twitter.

Overall I think it's unfair to blame Team NINJA for everything. It's not like I don't see some of the points made or think that DOA6 is a perfect game, but if you are going to take shots make sure they are targeted at the right people.

I'm happy to even have a DOA6. Plenty of people prior believed it may not even happen, and when fingers are constantly being pointed it doesn't do the game any favors and it doesn't promote a strong future either IMO.

I wonder how different Momiji will look after her announcement this weekend. I hope she gets a slight redesign like everyone else did.
*a sad attempt to move the conversation*
I think she'll wind up looking the same design wise since the NG characters besides Ryu don't really get much changes to their default suits. I hope she has that break blow mechanic where if she's hit by one her long Topknot ponytail will be loose and she'll use her loose hair model, which hopefully they'll both move more fluidly since in LR her ponytail was pretty stiff xD They probably won't make any of her clothes have the rip feature tho since Nyo and Nico and Brad, the KOFs and a few others don't have any clothes that have any break blow changes

From how I see it, DOA6 did some things really well, and while some of those base implementations have potential to make the game gorgeous, it seems like a lot of that was messed with by bad decisions further in development..
  • They moved to a PBR based render engine, following other fighting games. Allows better lighting simulation, more realistic materials, etc. Materials are done pretty well in this game. Metals look like metal, cloth looks like cloth. Especially compared to Tekken 7, where wool sweaters are laminated in plastic and then dunked in bacon grease. I also personally love the APO stage's use of volumetric fog.
  • Most meshes, while reused from DOA5, are overall much higher poly and give smoother surfaces.
  • Almost everything was re-UV mapped for more efficient texture space usage. I believe the majority of reused costumes have new, higher res textures than 5. This was done to remove fake painted shading to use more of the engine's lighting.
  • I think they've patched some weight painting issues with Kasumi and Marie? Floating geometry and such.
however,
  • They magically fused together the old method of rendering semi-transparent objects, forward rendering on top (literally rendered on top) of the new engine. While this is great for the purpose of reusing DOA5 hair assets, it's applied inconsistently to characters, (tina, marie) the textures are the same resolution as 5, there are artifacts, (pixelated scalps,) and it doesn't photograph properly with the aperture due to incorrect depth buffering.

  • The lighting isn't accurate to the environments. A light follows the camera pointed at the characters, in dark enclosed spaces there's rim lights on both sides of a win pose, the ambient light is cranked up on the throwdown stage.. I think this is pretty unfortunate since the early beta throwdown stage had excellent atmosphere, even if it was a bit dark.
  • Poly count is super inconsistent, and very inefficient- face meshes are ridiculously high poly. This includes the back of the head on characters that have hair fully covering it up. Body meshes were redone: male bodies are leaning high poly but are overall a good balance. Female bodies are oddly low poly everywhere minus the hands. Leifang's new C1 is a good example of inconsistent topology- the "ropes" she has on her outfit are overly detailed while her actual top itself is jagged on the edges where it shows her midriff.
    Kcpqxqw.png
  • Bad poly count is probably why we didn't get tag cause of performance lol
  • Inconsistent texture resolution and detail. I noticed that Kasumi's braid hairstyle is 2k, the one with the least surface area. Her other hairstyles are 1k.. what...???@#*&#?? I tried modding in the higher res texture onto her ponytail but it just didn't work. Has to be done from TN's side. (there's also lots of copies of textures, wasting hard drive space)
Even though I have more negatives than positives, it's much easier focus on what you don't like. DOA looks pretty good.. it just sucks that these little things are there.

I’d be happy if she gets a new C1 but that’s probably not happening. I’m more worried about that moveset of hers... I hope she gets a second stance and some flashier moves

I'd like for her to have more aerial combos myself. And an actual use for her double jump gimmick, lol

I just want them to give Momiji a new victory pose where she tap dances on the enemy’s body

That would fucking hurt more than Momiji's actual move-set. :ninja: Maybe a simple foot on the body would be good enough, but it doesn't fit Momiji's submissive nature. It would have to be Rachel doing that.

Either Rachel or Leon!! Rachel being a teaser and Leon making fun of the enemy for not being as strong as him fits so good lol, in general I just want more interacting poses... with 6 having both models in the screen at the same time they could use a little more creativity for the poses.
