Community Help Send Gehaktbal to TFC

It wasn't long ago that Sweet Revenge was in Paris having epic bouts with this talented, overseas player -- and it comes at no surprise that Gehaktabal now has his eyes set on what could be one of the most incredible DOA tournaments of all time; TFC.

But he needs help from the community to make this dream possible, much like Sweet Revenge did not so long ago. This should be seen as an opportunity for the community to be generous, and also expands on our idea of International play.

"Gehaktbal proved against myself (SweetRevenge) that he has what it takes to hang with the best American players in existence. Now's the time to help his dream come to fruition. He only needs 400 Euros so that him and his girlfriend (not a part of the campaign) can make the trip."

If you would like to help Gehaktbal on this journey check out his campaign page and donate!

Congratulations are in order for, Master reclaiming his D.i.D crown defeating Sweet Revenge in one of the most clutch sets I have ever seen. An amazing display of talent was shown from all competitors new to seasoned. D.i.D X was a great tournament and concludes the first part of the Road to TFC.

2nd Sweet Revenge :genfu:
3rd Hoodless :rig::zack:

Emmanuel Rodriguez, known as Master within the community is hosting D.i.D 10, June 7th. The longest running DOA tournament will be located at the anime convention -- AKON, like it has for several years. Today Manny is going to explain his vision for this tournament, and perhaps some future plans among other DOA related things.

DOAN: Master, you have been on quite the DOA hiatus, the community has been wondering what you have been up to. Have you thought of possibly quitting Dead or Alive, or are you just taking a break?

Master: I have been a little busy with other things recently. Work, Youtube videos, bead making and other small projects for this year but I still do what I can to squeeze in some DOA Training for the fans. They keep me going and I’ve had a lot of Hayabusa support as of recent saying that they want to see the Super Ninja in action with the latest tech.

Like that sensational headline? No? That's what you get when two continents and several countries fail to produce a player capable of stopping the rampage of Matt "SweetRevenge" Kieffer. We're running out of clever ways to tell the guy "Congratulations!" and it's completely your fault. Despite some incredible competition, particularly from second-place winner Gehaktbal, SR has now taken his fifth straight tournament victory and only appears to be gaining momentum. Before we get into some upcoming chances to give the FSD staff a chance to put some different names up there, check out the results below, complete with the Finals sets:

1) SweetRevenge
2) Gehaktbal
3) Ky-Dragon

More competitive play courtesy of Team Ninja's Official Tournament in Japan. Some of the videos are posted here, but the full list can be found in our tournament media section. You can also check out the media uploading tutorial, and post your own videos if you don't know how already.

In this tournament, we see great competition, character diversity and a completely different style that is worth studying. This tournament was our first example of International play for Ultimate to my understanding, and it featured FSD owner, Matt Ponton and Europe's Emperor_C0W, DOA's most recognized tutorial contributor.

Congrats to all competitors at the Official Tournament for the classy sportsmanship and getting together as a big family. Let's promote and push more tournament play for...

The final matches for ECT 6 have finally been uploaded to YouTube, and archived at FSD and are viewable at the tournament video page. Congrats to Kwiggles for winning this tournament, and congrats to everyone who showed up for displaying some great skill and variety of characters (including Mila).

The entire Sp00ky stream can be found on Free Step Dodge's Youtube (they will eventually be available here as well in tournament archives). There are also more Official Tournament videos on the site for your viewing pleasure.

I also wanted to take a minute to share some advice on uploading media to this site. Not only is the media section important to visual learners, but it's a great way for everyone to participate. 360 users have had problems uploading here because they only have Facebook upload options.

I hope everyone had a happy Mother's Day! Moving on... TFC is coming and will be here before you know it, and the main question to the community is "are you going?"

TFC seems to be Wrestlemania for our DOA tournaments, and not only is there a particular road path you can take to get there, but the top 6 payout is $8,000. On top of that you get to witness intense matches, and a huge variety of the best competitors doing what they do.

Stay tuned for future information, and be prepared for registration!

ECT 6 was a tournament of surprises, Marie Rose and most importantly -- solid competition. We got to enjoy optomistic commentary from Sly Bass and the return of XcaliburBladeZ. The entire stream from Team Sp00ky was recorded by Sorwah, and the rest of the matches I believe were captured by Sly Bass via his capture card, so let's give a nice pat to his back on that one.

This tournament was streamed on the homepage of our site... a tournament chat was also hosted for those like me who enjoy speaking to the community and not insipid stream monsters. This is hopefully going to be a regular ordeal. So look forward to streaming tournaments at FreeStepDodge!

UPDATED 1/2/2016: I've updated some information in this article about current costs for the site. If you can spare a few bucks and enjoy coming here definitely do so. The site is not in any danger but it's another way of supporting your community! Getting some cool new abilities on the site isn't a bad way to start the New Year, right?

Updated article follows:

As some of you may have noticed, there has been a Donate button hanging out on the right side of the index and front page for a while now. Judging by responses to a recent status update I posted, though, a large majority of you have no idea the site even accepts donations. This post is going to break down what the feature is for, what the site does with the donations, and what donating does for you. Feel free to also offer suggestions in the comments below!

Now to start with, let's talk about actual costs for the site. This site is funded 100% by @Mr. Wah and donations from forum users...

Community Vote Your Favorite Costume Now

You can finally start voting for your favorite costumes in the art contest, but there are a few rules from Team NINJA that you should follow to make sure your vote doesn't get disqualified:

1. You have up to three votes for each part/album:

Album 1 | Album 2 | Album 3

2. You can vote only once for one character. So you can't vote for three Ayane outfits.

3. No bad-mouthing designs. This contest is designed to rep your favorites, so stick to that and leave your negative thoughts to yourself.

4. The deadline is May 6th in your time-zones. That gives you a week to vote.

Have fun, everyone! Be sure to share your favorites in the comment box. Some of my...

It seems like the New York scene is beginning to take off nicely with gatherings and discussion between members on when to meet. If you are residing in New York, why not stop by one of the gatherings or let the community know you're interested? Visit the New York discussion, and/or give a shoutout to @DestructionBomb, @shurf, @Dr Snipe, @splslick

There are plenty of benefits to playing offline as displayed in these videos. It's fun, you can share your character information and improve while having a good time with the community. Also, you get the chance to perform in 100% legitimate matches that can not be provided in the online portion of our game.

A lot of people, unfortunately don't have a scene at all in their community, but the New York group is rising, and a lot of gatherings are...

Some breaking news posted by Eric "Big E" Small, CEO of @BigE Gaming, on Facebook:
The Fall Classic.png
"Is DOA5U Dead? Team Ninja Says “Alive!”

Team Ninja just announced their “Road to TFC” tour to create hype leading up to the most anticipated DOA5U tournament of 2014, The Fall Classic. Last year’s DOA5U tournament at TFC displayed some of the most exciting DOA5U gameplay and this year will be no exception.

The Road to TFC kicks off with 2 qualifier tournaments leading up to the main event in October. The 1st and 2nd place finishers at DOA In Dallas 10 (hosted by Master) and Summer Jam 8 (hosted by Big E Gaming) will be sent to TFC 2014 to compete. All travel, lodging (shared room) and registration fees will be covered by Team Ninja. If you’re a DOA5U player or looking for a new 3D fighting game to pick up then this is the perfect reason to sharpen your skills."

Based off our turnout last year, it's safe to say TFC is DOA5's Wrestlemania...

DOA In Dallas 10th Anniversary!

This is the 10th year in a row i have helped host DOA In Dallas for the community. The team that brings this together has done it for the community during hard times and good times. Since the beginning of competition in DOA back in DOA2U and DOA3 all the way through DOA4, DOAD and DOA5(U). This year we hope to continue to bring lots of FUN and HARD competition to this event and maybe find some new stars in the community trying to make a name for themselves. See if you can be a part of the longest running DOA competition in the WORLD!

This year, like in a few previous years, we will be at the longest running ANIME convention in the USA called A-Kon. The Tournament will be hosted on June 7th in the gaming ball room which is a huge 16,000 sq. ft. of space for all kinds of general gaming fun...

Mark Macklin, also known as, Hoodless within the Dead or Alive community has an offline tournament dream of attending an overseas tournament, much like Sweet Revenge. He’s working towards his goal, and is also receiving some donations to help him get there to represent our game. We talked RoF among other things on Facebook and I learned some interesting things about this stellar, offline player.

DOAN: How long have you been a part of the DOA community?

Hoodless: Haha… I’ve been playing Dead or Alive since I was 11. So 10 long years.

You have a lot of good moments in the offline scene, but which would be your favorite?

My favorite moment would have to be at Season Beatings Ascension. I was playing against Dr. Dogg. This was a funny moment for me because I had 1% health left...

Community Learning from the Japanese Players

  • 9,065

We've heard a lot of things about Japanese players in the community without really playing them, and the stuff said has been somewhat of a mixed bag. Recently a player from the fighting game community took a trip to Japan to see for himself, and he came back with constructive things to say.

The player learned that Japanese players are patient, and enjoy helping one another with their game. It becomes a more social activity instead of a creepy solo performance of practicing tech and withholding it for yourself in your bedroom.

"When I spent time [in Japan], they told me about how they train. It's very different from rest of world. I think that's why they have an advantage. They train (hundreds of fights), take a break/eat, then go at it again. And help each other."

I saw a DMC panel of talks with the history of Devil May Cry from Capcom, and they were talking about the battle music from DMC1. Apparently some of the music samples were first used in SF: EX PLUS Akuma's theme (GOD HANDS). I never heard of Akuma's theme SF EX version til now so I looked it up. When I heard the song it blew my mind how Devil May Cryish it is:

something's up with Omega Force
Homelander in MK1 is literally just Injustice 2 Supergirl, not that I mind, Supergirl was one of the more fun characters in Injustice 2 so her making a comeback in this form is fine
