The Dead or Alive 6 World Championship kicked off in Lyon, France at The Mixup 2019 with XcaliburBladeZ taking home the prized belt defeating Gehaktbal in Grand Finals. This tournament was a great reminder to the FGC that DOA6 is a true offline experience and is at its best in an esports environment. Top 8 was full of surprises and clutch fights, but the game also shined in pools where players like Bonus Stage, Bram's and Dr. Impact floored everyone spectating.

Since DOA6 released last month, young BladeZ has won 7 events with 5 of them being consecutive NLBC victories. Now that players are becoming more familiar with the new system, it will be interesting to see how many more professional and newcomers alike start attending these big events to attempt throwing off this nearly unstoppable beast. If you don't want to watch this prize fighter win...

The Southern California Dead or Alive community has been very active since the March 1st release of DOA 6. There has been a strong showing from long time veterans of the game as well as newcomers. @iHajinShinobi and his slippery Ayane has taken the top spot in all 3 of the SoCal tourneys thus far. I for one am eagerly awaiting Crazy Steady vs @iHajinShinobi whenever the planets align. The SoCal scene is dedicated to growing in numbers and in skill and has regularly scheduled tournaments and casual play.

Dead or Alive 4's Special Wake-up Attack Glitch Returns

  • 2,554
  • 7
The buffering glitch originating in Dead or Alive 4 has resurrected in Dead or Alive 6. This glitch did not occur in Dead or Alive Dimensions or Dead or Alive 5, but found its way back with Dead or Alive 6.

If you perform a move that uses your special wake-up attack's input, and are then put on the ground in your special wake-up attack position, any button you press (:h::P: or :K:) will force you to do your special wake-up attack. In Dead or Alive 4, this buffer would last upwards of four (4) seconds after the input has been performed. So you'd have to sit on the ground for up to four seconds before you can safely attempt to tech up or wake-up kick.

Bass has a special wake-up attack by pressing :H+K: with his feet towards the opponent and facing up. If Hitomi holds his :6::H+K: he can't press anything after hitting the ground.

This is especially problematic for...

DOA6 Opinion: Winter Brawl 3D has been the Best Exposure for DOA6

  • 2
Despite a two week delay and tournament cancellation, Big E Gaming and Team NINJA were able to resurrect the Winter Brawl debut of DOA6, and the decision to do that has paid off greatly. The players want to see DOA6 in its final build, and they want proof that it's going to be heading into the esports direction since it has been the focal point of Team NINA's marketing for the game. Team NINJA has played every card with the weekend demo, the announcement of DOA6 World Championship and now Winter Brawl 3D showcasing its tournament viability less than a week before release.

When tournament organizers attract some of the best offline DOA players to sign up, utilize exceptional talent for the commentary that know what they are talking about and have it presented on stream by someone that cares about the game, you really can't go wrong. The community can get involved offline or online with the demo and really educate themselves to the system this weekend. The hype is flowing heavy...

You might not get Dead or Alive 6 as early as Free Step Dodge, Sonic Fox (and now his brother Kwiggle), but you will be able try all of the characters for yourself in the weekend demo (PS+ or XBOX LIVE required) that starts this Friday. While that's happening you can also spectate DOA6s first major appearance at Winter Brawl 3D if you didn't register for the tournament on time. Thanks to Sonic Fox's streamed matches with Xcalibur BladeZ, the community is already beginning to find some new complex mechanics in DOA6s final build.

All three streams had something valuable to share with the community for DOA6. Matt Ponton covered frame data and move lists, sharing information for characters like Bass...

The stream was live via openrec, and the event started with a professional player exhibition and ended with Shimbori presenting information for DOA6. Every character will be unlocked for attendees at EVO Japan, and special DOA6 demos from Siologica and Teru Rock were live streamed.

DOA World Championship was revealed at the show with 90k up for grabs and more details coming soon. Just a few weeks ago I expressed the importance of a championship in my opinion piece, and it's good to see that they do have serious plans in the works for DOAs offline community. News DOA6 Officially Announced for CEO 2019

CEO has confirmed that Dead or Alive 6 will be a part of their main tournament lineup this June in Daytona, Florida. It's recommended to register sooner than later to avoid late fees for the event. You can also contact CEO if you are a local looking to help out at the tournament.

This will be the first time that DOA has appeared at CEO, which is one the largest tournaments in the world, that grows in attendance each and every year. DOA players will have to adjust to fighting their matches in a wrestling ring, and competitors that make it to the finals will get their own entrance with music. When you combine the intensity and the pageantry of CEO with DOA6 and its community, how could you deny that this could be the best showing DOA has ever had?

Xcalibur BladeZ has already confirmed to FSD that he will be competing at the event with an emphatic "hell yeah" months before the...

DOA6 Opinion: Team NINJA's Road Map is Pivotal to DOA6

  • 3,380
  • 15
Since Team NINJA wants DOA6 to be taken seriously as an esport game, it is of utmost importance that they have a road map set up for fighters prior to the release of DOA6. A qualifying cup or tournament schedule would not only add to DOA6s replay value and help garner interest among fighters, but will show how serious Team NINJA is about making that change. Within the game development process you can see that they have made several changes to the style of the game to ensure that casual players also enjoy the experience and don't feel alienated.

This is a specific opinion post, so gameplay mechanic discussions (frame data, move safety) are better left for news posts or the forum. Since Team NINJA has delayed the game, and we have little data on the final build, opinions wouldn't be educative enough to matter. The general review for DOAs gameplay has been sincerely positive by most of the professional players in the DOA community that have played it.

Releasing a road map before the...

Playable DOA6 Demo at EVO Japan 2019

All 26 characters in Dead or Alive 6 will be playable February 15th and 16th during EVO Japan 2019 at the Fukuoka International Center! There will not only be a demo of the latest build, but streamed exhibition matches with 4 skilled players to better showcase the mechanics. Team NINJA's Yohei Shimbori will also be giving a presentation with new information pertaining to DOA6.

Siologica and Teru Rock will be making special appearances at the EVO exhibition. They are both accomplished fighters with offline tournament wins and should be able to offer plenty of information in their matches. There should be opportunities for players to see if adjustments have been made to the current system like the ground game, which has been seen by many as incomplete at this point in time.

You can peruse the event information at the Japanese DOA6...

New Gameplay from Shimbori's January Preview

Team NINJA's Yohei Shimbori has been all over the world showing the latest build for Dead or Alive 6. You would hope that gameplay and graphical showcases would be the focal point of the new build presented, but controversial social topics reigned supreme for most interview presentations created by the video game media. Thankfully, some new gameplay is emerging out of the coverage and the newer characters are being showcased in the footage.

The Nyo-Tengu vs Phase 4 gameplay here was not as revealing as it could have been. We already know about Phase 4's 214 T and flurry of kicks, and we've also seen the majority of Tengu's moves shown here in DOA5. It will be interesting to see more from both bonus characters in the future, but Nyo-Tengu looks to still be in need of additional safety options going into DOA6 other than P+K.

If you want additional footage for Phase 4, you can check out IGN's...

Kayane, a well-known competitive player in the FGC, conducted an interview with Team NINJA's Yohei Shimbori the future of DOA6 at Koch Media in Paris, France. In this article, Shimbori touches on several topics such as eSports involvement, community feedback, possible DLC characters, and more. Here are some tidbits from the article.

On DOA6's "eSports Mode" (which is similar to DOA5's Exhibition Mode):

K. : I’ve seen in the game that you have an Esport mode. Can you tell me more about it ?
Y. S. : So in Esport tournaments, if you pause the game, you generally automatically lose the round. So in this mode, we disabled the menu button to avoid any accidents and you need to press the menu button much longer if you want it to really pop up. This is the first step. We’ll analyze over time what Esport requires and what sets...

DOA6 Combat and Features Trailer

Team NINJA keeps fresh content coming with a new electrifying trailer that breaks down the gameplay in Dead or Alive 6 beautifully, and explains all kinds of exciting new features to the game. At the beginning of the trailer Team NINJA mentions that DOA5 has a lifetime figure of 12 million digital downloads. If you want to know why DOA6 is coming out this quick, look no further than the success of DOA5 and the relationship between Team NINJA and the fighters that played it.

The gameplay and feature mashup in this trailer is one of the most intense and enjoyable trailers Team NINJA has ever made. With every kick, punch and expression that is thrown your way, you will want more, and you'll get more! Even the triangle system tutorial bits were filled to the brim with the finest and most polished gameplay yet.

You can see a lot of polish in this trailer in comparison to some of the previous ones, and it only takes a few clips to see that the hit detection on moves is better than it...
